You are one of the persons, which uploud a video ones a month, but it's worth to waiting and it's always a masterpiece. It's a feeling that everything new on your channel is worthy to see and worthy to come back to it. And in my opinion a brake between videos is an important part of the value of the creator. "No one is the villain of their story". Another cracking song, the western lietmotif brings a subtle vulnerability which gets blown away by the end. Excellent piece
Some people are people are raised to be the villain, how would you know? All they can do is fight for what they already have, or just die completely and become a former husk of themselves until they complete their goal to live their peaceful life however they want. So don't call it a lie when Disney's Monsters exists.
Not what I expected given the title, but I absolutely adore the unique take on the Villain! Instead of a man who justifies his otherwise heinous actions, it’s someone who expresses active guilt and remorse, and the longing to be found and saved. Beautiful song!
My take on the trilogy is that it tells the tale of one person , not three. The hero: begining and start of rising action, and Antihero and Villain each could be climax or falling action, depending on how the story went, a hero that slowly became a what most would call a villain to further some greater justice to save more people in the long run, or a fallen hero that finds a last stand to redeem themselves. It could also be done in the order of villain, hero Antihero. For someone that that what they were doing was just but to come to the conclusion that the have become the thing they swore to destroy (hero being a combo of a flashback and epiphany) with antihero being them swearing a new oath to be kind to the innocent, but to be the villain to villains
I think pop culture has a muddy definition of the 'Anti' characters. (Not WRONG, cause words mean what a culture wants em too.) I like how Matt Colville (DnD youtuber) defines the anti's for his playing as villains episode. The Anti hero (IN THAT INSTANCE, not pop culture) doesn't WANT to be a protag (Note Protag, not hero). Han Solo fits this in Episode 4. He doesn't care to help Luke until there's money involved and when the going gets tough and he doesn't see profit in it, he bails. He changes his mind, of course. This song screams to me as what Colville would describe later in the video as an Anti-Villain, a character who doesn't WANT to be an antagonist. They want to help the Protag... but can't. Either an oath, a personal stake, binding more powerful than their own will, or they think they know more than the Protag and must stop them for the GREATER good. "I must kill you... before you become a monster." or "I respect you all very much and see you're doing what you all think is righteous and just... but I must stop you. I have too. I'm sorry." "I don't know what else to be but this..."
@@gacrazy65 I think the traditional definitions still fit. Anti-heroe's are defined by their lack of conventional heroic attributes. Modern society tends to define heroism along moral and ethical lines so a protagonist(like Han) with lose ethics and morality fits like a glove. Anti-villains having an ultimately benevolent end goal or having significant virtuous traits but their means are so terrible that the ends are no longer justified. I think it seems so muddy because so much of what the anti characters are is defined by perceived morality and morality is remarkably grey in pop culture.

@@nathanwagner762 This Trilogy could be a movie with these main characters! On that point tho, I would love to see you make one on "the Side Character" or the "NPC", someone who feels like he's not really in control of his life and can only watch on as all these people with purpose in their life do what their ideology tells them is right. I would love to hear what that guy would say through you and how you would resolve his character arc. First step to letting go of powerlessness is acknowledging it i guess so even if he's still a side character by the end of the song, knowing how he's been a side character would still be a step in the right direction to resolving his character arc. Does this sound interesting to you?
This is amazing. Honestly it reminds me of a character I'm writing. She once let her pain get to her and fell to the shadows an is struggling to redeem herself from her past. When she's able, she tries to use that to help others who made the same mistakes she did. I love this. I am such a fan of your work, they are relatable and they resonate with the Christian soul.
I have a story similar to this! Instead the female lead tries to help the male lead to trust God and turn to him while she struggles with her past mistakes.
I love that! No greater use of one’s pain than to help others in the same predicament. And so great you are Christian! That makes two of us haha bless you!
I have another story i'm writing this song fits really well! It's about a guy who ends up sacrificing himself so much for the greater good that he ends up losing himself to a villain that posseses him and uses him to commit atrocities. His friends save him, but then he begins falling into a new habit of trying to make it up to them through even more sacrifice.
So instead of an unrepentant monster, its the story of a villain who acted out of fear or anger, regrets the life he lived, and resolves to become a better person.
@theunknownshadowish That is NOT what an anti-villain is!! An anti-villain is a character who has noble goals but uses evil means to achieve them. They are not completely evil, and may even have redeeming qualities, which makes them difficult to hate. Anti-villains can be portrayed in a way that makes the audience question who is right, and can create a moral dilemma in a story. An anti-villian is NOT completely evil or unrepentant.

I love this song. It shows that even Villains are humans, they're not monsters. Everyone deserves grace and mercy, a second chance, no matter what wrongs you have done. Thanos thought what he was doing was right. He thought he was walking down the path. When he refused to admit his wrongs, he was killed for it. Anakin Skywalker was trying to save his wife. He loved her dearly, and would do anything for her. Luke gave him another chance, and he took it. Anakin was redeemed and eventually died for all the wrongs he committed anyways. I could go on and on but I think you get the point.
@@nathanwagner762 It is very well done. Instead of focusing on pain and hatred like with Anti-Hero you focused on the path of becoming a better person. Amazing stuff.
There’s something so familiar and heartbreaking in your music, like you’re tearing it right out of one’s heart and making it heard… I don’t remember many other artists that can make me feel this vulnerable, it’s terrifying, but I somehow don’t mind
The basic theme of my book is that we take up our opressors swords, and continue their work without realizing it. Sometimes when you face a villain for so long, when you lose, for so long, you can become him without realizing it. I cried listening to this because it feels like this song understands that, and it feels like that is an important thing to know.
Absolutely beautiful. This trilogy of songs forms an amazing story with so much emotions. And despite the song being called The Villain it gives so much feeling of hope and redemption. I dang near wanted to cry. Bravo!
Man I do not normally get emotional over music, but I after the awesomeness of antihero and the confidence of hero, I didn't expected villain to be so uplifting. He may have been a villain, but he wants nothing more than to go back and move on. And the throwback to Light at 4:30, "LET THERE BE!" god that made me happy.
I love the choice of instruments for this. It has such a mournful tone to it, yet one of triumph at the same time for the first part. And the second is more determined as it reaches the climax, and then one of redemption as the end draws to a close.
I stumbled across your music by finding “The Hero” and “The Antihero” a few weeks ago and then scrolled through the rest of your stuff looking for “The Villain,” so when I didn’t find it I assumed it would show up eventually. Happily added to my writing playlist, I love this one! Thank you for your talents ❤
For a song labeled The Villain this is not what I expected but I love it! It goes really well with the dnd character I am currently playing named Zetsu. This song reflects her life so well and she how sees herself.
This song hits right into the soul and heart. always love your songs Nathan Wagner. When ever the demons are to loud your songs always reaches threw and lights the darkness.
Once again, my friend, you seem to take the lyrics that describe my soul and put them to Melody that touches me more than you’ll ever know what you do with a gift that you have at least for me speaks directly to my soul. Thank you for everything you are and everything you do you never cease to amaze me and everything you do God bless.
Nathan! This is such an amazing and unique take for a "Villain". The Samurai being the "Villain" here is simply a label that others have placed on him for going against the system. He isn't some Evil Mastermind. No. Just a tired and weary human seeking out glory or justice for himself, even if it meant that he must oppose others and cross certain lines to get it. The parallels to "The Hero" here is very apt because everyone is the Hero of their own story...but "the difference is the side you take", right? The clear step up in visuals help a lot in immersing me into the story you're crafting. The sequence at 5:46 leading up to the flicker and transition just blew me away! 5:46 we see from the Samurai's perspective, framing himself as the "Hero" of his story as he looks ahead at the challenges on his journey to take back his life. We are shown closer to his back and he is illuminated in a heroic, more positive light. At 6:08, we see from the perspective of the others who view him as the "Villain" of this story, with the Samurai now being further in the distance and shrouded in more sinister lighting. Strangely, this makes your callback to Light make even more sense! Haha! Amazing work, Nathan!
This honestly reminds me of a villain I created who later becomes a good guy again. He didn’t want to be a villain, but was turned into one by no fault of his own. His daughter convinced him to come back and now he has a chance to make up for lost time. Great song! Enjoyed “The Hero” and I like the twist with this song.
Absolutely love how you made this one Inspiring tune, great lyrics And so the trilogy is complete Definitely will be listening to these for a long time! 👏
Yet another banger Nathan!!! For some reason this song reminded me of the quote by Dan Skinner: "Fear is temporary, Regret is permanent. Adventure is taking a chance because it's better than the question mark if you don't" It's all about figuring life step by step and learning when we need to pay our dues I guess. Thanks for the great music 🤘
I’ve already commented on this video but oh my lord I think it needs a second one. This song has literally not left my top three most listened to on Spotify since it came out and has been #1 for about two months running. The emotion and raw power in this song, the vivid imagery, the music itself, it all contributes into something spectacular and larger than life. Nathan, you’re one of my favorite artists out there right now and after having The Hero be my #1 song last year I’m so ready for this to be my anthem for 2024

Wow, I'm literally speechless right now. Found myself listening to this as though spellbound. Your voice makes it such a powerful song. I instantly recognised the part from Light and I love how similar, but also how different it somehow is from that song. Like you've given it a twist. This is most definitely going to be on replay while I'm writing my thesis. Thank you so much, Nathan!
I have listened to this song almost 20 times and I will listen to it 20 times more. The rhythm is epic and the lyrics are beautiful. Thank you for making this song!!
It’s here! And absolutely worth the wait. I expected a song about a villain who knew what they were and loved it. What we got was so much better!! The vulnerability and remorse. Those lines “let the weary and burned lay it down” and “let the darkest of hearts be found” implying that they’re not just talking about themselves, as if they don’t want anyone else to take the path they did. Beautiful. The song of a villain who is about to start their redemption arc. I love it! A perfect fit with The Antihero.
This is amazing, when i saw this i thought it was going to be a similar heavy rock theme to anti hero but this is even better! The villain is like a regretful warrior instead of a murderous rampager
@@nathanwagner762You could take that stance for a song with the Antivillain. :3. Make this series a quadrilogy (I think that's what a four-part series is called? I dunno, LOL, :P).
From the art chosen, we seem to follow one man through this trilogy, yet the songs are disconnected enough in their lyrics and story that it could move either way; are we watching a hero fall into darkness, remembering the light he once knew? Or does the trilogy really move backwards, following this man out of his darkness and into the light, from begging others to help him to standing tall announcing that redemption is indeed possible? I love that so much, you can interpret it either way, or you can even see it as three different characters, each choosing a different path to take. You've made quite the narrative here, Nathan, and the music is just incredible all the way though!
Amazing! Gave me chills, and I could feel and see the story play out in my head. It takes special music to let my mind naturally do that without any effort, and this was one of them. Thank you!
@@nathanwagner762 You're welcome. Your songs fits so perfectly one of the characters that I always imagine him singing them and it makes me like him even more.

Dear Tommy, I've been a fan of your work since Bad Wolves and I'm absolutely loving your solo stuff. I'm a California born and raised native and military veteran who though I've leaned left in my views, have reached a point with politics that I just don't trust either side anymore. Your music transcends our division as a nation and has helped me through some of the toughest times of my Life. Keep making incredible music. Much love and respect to you.
@Nathanwagner762 This was not what I expected, and yet, it somehow was what I needed. Thank you so much, for giving me another powerful tool against Satan and his demonic torments. Your music reminds me that I am not defined by my past? But my present.
That was not what I was expecting, that's so creative! And what a beautiful story you told! I'm interpreting this as the hero finally getting through to/saving the antihero who now understands that they became a villain. I'm obsessed with the bridge, the flow is so satisfying! "We can let this anger go, send the demons back to Sheol," who gave you permission to write lyrics that cool? "I'll take back my life!" with that music fade hits really hard too! Wow! The throwback to Light made me super excited and emotional! Not only do I love it when you reference your other songs, Light is one of my favorites of yours because it was there for me in the darkest of my depression (and because it sounds awesome). It's really cool to see the lyrics in a new light (haha) because it's like how God's light can appear differently to different people; hope for one, forgiveness for another. (You've also inspired me to add a new narrative element/character to that story that the first two originally inspired, so thank you for that! If it ever goes anywhere I'll let you know, but for now it's just a fun side project to come up with ideas for. 😊)
I would love to hear his rock rendition of this, cause it would feel like a attempt to reach out to all the dark hearted dark hearted rather than an advision

This is absolutely fucking GORGEOUS. I usually just keep music on in the background, but the second I heard this start up I had to stop and pay attention.
I really love these songs. And I like how they seemingly flow into one another, though I could be making it all up haha. But with the similar sounds of Antihero and Hero, I imagine that in Antihero, it tells the story of a man who did something terrible ("there's blood on my hands") and hence, in Hero, he doubts that he could be the hero ("trying to believe a hero could live in me"). I'd say those two are his progression, especially considering the repeated line "I've made such a mess of my conscience it's making me nauseous". But then Villain is the antagonist in Hero ("this menace is winning", etc), and tells his pov. And I see the bridge of Villain as the hero/antihero speaking to the villain from his own experience ("you know we really are the same"). Then there's Antivillain. It doesn't have the same feel as Villain, so I would say it's a figurative third person, and it's interesting that most of the song is speaking to the antivillain. I'd say it's the villain giving advice to a third person after his own change ("you own the night, I can see it in your eyes", etc). Thank you for your songs; they're beautiful.
This is absolutely amazing! And the three songs either tell the stories of 3 different people, or of one person going through all stages. From Hero, to Antihero, to Villain. Absolutely love it!
After listening to The Antihero, The Hero, and The Villain back to back several times, this is what I've com up with. The Antihero is the villain of the Hero's story. The Villain is the villain of the Antihero, but only as the catalyst, the reason. Yet it is the Hero and the Antihero who fight for they are the enemies of each other, the only villains can see. And the Villain watches them before continuing forward step by step, resolving to make things right, starting at the very beginning. I have no idea if that makes sense, but that's just what my mind came up with.
Another lyrical Masterpiece. I love riding the wave of your emotions that speaks directly to my soul. May you always shine bright dear kindred soul. Much love and mad respect to you always ❤
During the begining minute, I can hear bits similar to a song called "Nancy Mullegan" ahh. Incredible music, lyrics, background, and so so cool to hear this new track. I was literally just thinking a few days ago that its about time for a another song. And here it is. I love it.
Let's fking go
Haha let's go! Sorry they've been coming a lot slower this year. Been scrapping more. Thank you so much for listening! So grateful
I love this song. It's feels so mythical and has a deepness to the words which most pop songs today lack.
I love the choice of instruments for this. It has such a mournful tone to it, yet one of triumph at the same time for the first part. And the second is more determined as it reaches the climax, and then one of redemption as the end draws to a close.
So true
So glad you like it. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen. Means more than you could ever know ❤
@@maxiimaxoffthank you so much !
God bless you! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I hope you know how much it means to me. So so so grateful for you
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THISS!!🎉 Let's also take this masterpiece to the light!!! 😎🌹🌹 Bravo Nathan!!~ Meaningfull as ever!!!💫
Ahhh thanks so much for listening ❤ means everything to me
This honestly reminds me of a villain I created who later becomes a good guy again. He didn’t want to be a villain, but was turned into one by no fault of his own. His daughter convinced him to come back and now he has a chance to make up for lost time. Great song! Enjoyed “The Hero” and I like the twist with this song.
A fitting ending to a beautiful trilogy. May the Light keep guiding you on, sir.
Absolutely love how you made this one
Inspiring tune, great lyrics
And so the trilogy is complete
Definitely will be listening to these for a long time! 👏
Yet another banger Nathan!!!
For some reason this song reminded me of the quote by Dan Skinner:
"Fear is temporary, Regret is permanent. Adventure is taking a chance because it's better than the question mark if you don't"
It's all about figuring life step by step and learning when we need to pay our dues I guess.
Nathan, you’re one of my favorite artists out there right now and after having The Hero be my #1 song last year I’m so ready for this to be my anthem for 2024
I subscribed you after i heard "The Hero" for the 1st time. Now I open every single new masterpiece you upload, as soon as i can, because i just can't wait to hear it. Man, you are amazing 🔥
Thank you so much 😢 Could not be more grateful. What an absolute blessing
I keep coming back to this song and the other two in this trilogy thing? it's very good and I CANT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD
All your songs are really great. I love them! I am Japanese and I wish they would adopt you in Japanese karaoke boxes....
I got to know you through the song "Don't forget me"."I have your playlist with many other songs that I like such as "blood", "love", "ghosts", "the alchemist", etc! Also, I was very happy to receive your reply to my previous message.... I will continue to support you 😊.
So glad you like them! Means absolutely everything 😭 And no way! Me and my wife are going to Japan at the end of summer! She’s been learning the language and everything haha thank you so much for listening. Could not be more grateful
@@nathanwagner762
Thanks for sharing your wonderful meaning!
Wow! I see you are in Japan. Studying languages and all, that's great! I want to study English more too 😌.
I hope you enjoy Japan a lot during the cooler season 😆.
Thank you so much Lisa!! Means the freaking universe. Could not be more grateful. Have fun with your thesis!
I have listened to this song almost 20 times and I will listen to it 20 times more. The rhythm is epic and the lyrics are beautiful. Thank you for making this song!!
Wow! This was really good! Giving me "Shogun" vibes, especially after I just finished watching the whole show
Honestly this song is absolutely incredible. I can already tell this will be my most listened to song this year. Phenomenal work as always
I'm lost for words with this one... The ending gave me goosebumps all over. Damn... Well done!
I love these songs so immensely. My stories are just Villains that were forced to be bad. I love this!
This is amazing, when i saw this i thought it was going to be a similar heavy rock theme to anti hero but this is even better! The villain is like a regretful warrior instead of a murderous rampager
Haha That would've been a cool vibe too! Maybe I'll still try to do a song like that :)
This is amazing. I was so moved by the emotion in your voice. The lyrics, regretful but hopeful... It's beautiful. Thank you for making music!
Amazing! Gave me chills, and I could feel and see the story play out in my head. It takes special music to let my mind naturally do that without any effort, and this was one of them. Thank you!
Wow, just wow. This song is breathtaking. How talented can you get. You are a blessing on earth to heal us and calm our hearts.
This is absolutely everything I could’ve hoped and more. Thank you so much. I wasn’t expecting a redemption story, but I’m so happy that it was.
This is so perfect for the book I'm working on ! You're really becoming a great source of inspiration for my work and for that I wanted to thank you.
I'm honored! So glad! I absolutely love writers! They be so brilliant. Thanks so much for listening!
@@nathanwagner762 You're welcome. Your songs fits so perfectly one of the characters that I always imagine him singing them and it makes me like him even more.
Another freaking fantastic piece to complete the trilogy! The call back to "Light" made me so happy; it's one of my most favorite songs from you! Hope to hear more of it in the future❣
Dear Tommy,
I've been a fan of your work since Bad Wolves and I'm absolutely loving your solo stuff. I'm a California born and raised native and military veteran who though I've leaned left in my views, have reached a point with politics that I just don't trust either side anymore. Your music transcends our division as a nation and has helped me through some of the toughest times of my Life. Keep making incredible music. Much love and respect to you.
YOOOOOOOOOOO IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!!!!!!
Haha hope you like it 😊
@Nathanwagner762 This was not what I expected, and yet, it somehow was what I needed.
Nathan Wagner voice of the people the god dam legend makes an absolute banger I'm so glad we all have been waiting for this todays a good day
Im so glad i get to hear this after lsing to the hero and anti hero its perfect

This is absolutely fucking GORGEOUS. I usually just keep music on in the background, but the second I heard this start up I had to stop and pay attention.
Loved the hero in all of its renditions. Thank you for another amazing song.
Yup, this is now my favorite song, I've listened to it at least 19 times by now and I love it every time
Nathan wagner has the best driving music. PS hearing this on a 2,000+ miles road trip
I can hear this echoing through the collective as we shift into unification. Love the celtic touch.
Your songs are always so beautiful and full of emotion. Your voice is unique, never stop singing and producing! ♥♥

So glad you like it :)
I cant listen to this song enough!! Probably my favorite of yours yet. Please never stop. Your music is magically awesome.
What an amazing music .It gives me so much lord of the rings vides .Another masterpiece making history
Love this one bro!! Amazing job
Thank you fam! Keep up the good work over on your channel!!
4:41 I really love this throwback to Light, which was one of the first songs I ver heard from you Nathan. Wonderful song, I love it a lot❤
If my book ever gets published and made into a movie, I absolutely would love for some of these songs to be in it. They fit so well I love it

During the begining minute, I can hear bits similar to a song called "Nancy Mullegan" ahh. Incredible music, lyrics, background, and so so cool to hear this new track. One of my favorite things about your music is the crossovers with the rest of your music and in this track towards the end the A Team and Linken Park too !!? Wow just wow good
I'll have to check out Nancy Mulligan! Thank you so much for your kind words. Means absolutely everything. Bless you!
I've been following your music for a good bit now, and hearing the line(s) (starts around 4:30) that refence your earlier work "Light" (part 5 of 5 from "Darkness") made me super excited. One of my favorite things you do in your music in inter-connect your other music. It's so cool. Some of my favorites are: Lonely - Innocence {and} Love + Man of Stone - Hope. Your works always blow me away. Keep being you. Keep praising God.
