I´m drumming for 4 years, and play Sabaton-songs. And - I must say, I´m a little bit ( ala Estepario-style -> One day in his life) insane too, but - isn´t it every heavy-metal-drummer? And you will see, drumming is funny, when you hit yourself, and this will happen... surely... I have enough blue marks on my body ... from blisters I don´t speak... I know, I will NEVER be so fast like I want, but I do my best... and pay attention, drumming is a drug... if you will start once, you NEVER can stop anymore... you will be a junkie, a drum-junkie. I will die, when I cant drum anymore... real...
I am 43 and I am considering to pick up drums as well. Hopefully that is not too late.

Awesome news! Bro I'm in my 40's, played guitar all my life, but always had a kit around and love jumping on for fun. I've never been able to go further than just having fun myself because my skills just aren't there, and the time I do have to train I spend on guitar. BUT seeing your earlier single kick stuff was so inspiring, it completely changed the way I approach drumming.
I gave up double kick years ago because I was trash and have never been able to play along to anything with alot of double kick, but your work showed me how to use rhythm to fill in those spaces and I'm now jamming along to stuff like Sepultura and Slayer and having fun instead of feeling inadequate.
You've literally had a bigger positive effect on my drumming than anything else in my whole life, well done.
