I totally agree with this man.....just traded in my 2015 bmw 535d for 520i 2019....I must say I'm impressed....it drives better than "paper says". I drive 530i 3.0 petrol every day....wife enjoys 520i more than 535d....... 520i doesn't go on autobahn, so we don't need high top speed.....the 4 cylinder engine is set up with the gearbox so well...makes u want to drive this car all the time.

A Golf will be more than enough, in fact. It'll "munch" that motorway at a sedate 70mph ALL DAY. And you're not being shafted for 90k, as well. That's a plus. For me, at least.
Exactly what I wanted to see. I'm looking for a G30 to switch from my E60 LCI and since I drive 90% around town and don't abuse the car power is almost irrelevant, I was curious if the 184 4cyl is enough, I'm planning on getting the 250 horsepower one though.
Because nobody needs an overpowered engine on the city. Most people are statisfied with a 190hp I'm german and here in Germany i have seen a lot of fully equiped mid power engines cars from BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW.

I trink it depends on the Newtonmeters which are 400 NM to 290 NM for the 520d. When i ordered this car, i really had some bad dreams that it could be not quick enough. But now i'm loving it!!!!
I don't know why, for some reasons, I read a lot of bad things about BMW. I mean, a lot. And I don't know why. Don't get me wrong, these are extremely beautiful cars. I simply love the look. I would buy one if I had enough money.
It doesn't really weigh that much though, it's the lightest car in it's class the 530i for example is just above 1600kg, which is quite alright for 4.94m long car

There is something wrong with that car you are driving in the test. I took a test drive with one of those 520i sedan and your acceleration it´s way to slow compared to that one i drove. I WAS PAST 200 much faster after a short fully accelerating. Seems odd...
Dear AutoTopNL, I have a feeling that you are not fully familiar with the car you. First, the maximum speed of this BMW is 227 km. so says the BMW and that is obviously possible. As for tuning, the engines are basically the same as for the 530I, but the maximum extra horsepower for this 520I is 42 HP (total 226HP) because everything else could lead to big problems. This BMW is not only designed for so-called business people, but for anyone who wants a enough fast and comfortable car for all conditions at an affordable price. In the end, this car offers much more than you or anyone else needs in the Netherlands and the rest of the 99% of the world. Except for those who live along the German Highway and have nine lives as cats.
my current daily is a 2018 Tiguan 380TSI R-Line at 220hp 35.7kgm. Was checking the 5 Touring but we don’t get the 530i at where I live, wondering if I would feel the downgrade if I switch to a 520i in terms of performance. Or should I just go for the E300 estate.

My 21 Years old 523i drives 240... And it does not need so long to get there... It only has 170hp, which come from an 2,5L R6 without Turbos. It weights 1500kgs

The Autobahn there is flat and has a slight positive slope (slightly uphill). I doubt your 520d would do 242 on the speedometer there, let alone on GPS. My remapped 2.0 TDI with 200hp 450nm did 228kmh on GPS on that part but I had to leave after the first exit after entering Germany.

I cannot understand why BMW “killed” mid range cars of each series. In previous models you had a variety of engines. No more 325i, no more 335i etc. 3 cylinder on a sedan is just a joke. Only flagship cars of each series worth it...
