Autogefühl I can tell from the video the steering is lacking nothing like the 2013 f10
I can't believe you guys only have 142,697 subscribers. You do the best auto reviews on RUclips.
let's see how the community can push us - especially considering the latest annoying algorithm change on youtube which makes it even harder!
Autogefühl I don't understand, how is it annoying?
Very thorough, and Im a fan. But... Thomas often takes an age to get to the point, particularly when driving the car, and so his videos are at least 25% too long. It doesn't help that Thomas sometimes mumbles his way through his reviews, and it can be difficult to pick up clearly what he is saying. Autogefühl is great, but it needs a production editor for slicker, tighter, shorter packages.
+O Gordon - Hi - interesting point, but as a car and driving enthusiast I like Thomas's detailed reviews. I also like the long driving parts, especially with the views looking forward, and Thomas's sensible comments, as just by watching, and with Thomas's reactions, we can start to get a flavour of how a car drives on public roads and in traffic, and form our own views from our own experiences. Another observation, Thomas seems to keep the steering wheel stationary when driving straight - which is nice! I can understand Thomas, he is very good with words, and commentary, when driving. Cheers.
I am too, Kit Kat. Don't get me wrong. I like Thomas' thoroughness, but I do think that he needs to shorten and edit these things. The two things are not mutually exclusive. Im not saying make 'em 5 minutes long, just be a little briefer, tighter and more direct in commentary. RUclips is a competition for eyeballs. Unless I have a specific interest in a car, I rarely make it all the way through one of these vids in a single sitting. This is friendly criticism. Hope he keeps up the good work.
Autogefühl Trivia:
- The M550i will be the so far most powerful version, followed by _THE_ BMW M5 which will have even more power (and will come directly from BMW M GmbH).
- Our test vehicle 530d was equipped with the rear wheel steering, which is up to 2,7°, below 60 km/h opposite angle of the front wheels, above 60 km/h same angle as the front wheels. Compare a maximum of 3,5° at Renault which is why it feels more subtle in the BMW and not like the rear would break out, a wise decision imho.
- The degree of activation also depends on the driving mode selected.
- The one-piece-front-hood could be done because the lower part of the front bumper was lengthened a little bit to absorb the very first "touch" in a small front crash
- Yes, I also took a short ride off camera with the E12 M =) Suspension wise, it feels like driving a Mitsubishi Space Star today, but at that time, the suspension was super stiff and sporty.
- The Bluteooth connection worked later after many tries, the Apple CarPlay Wireless connection with the phone of the Infotainment Engineer (iPhone6), but not with mine (iPhone5). Seems there is some more work to be done.

I like how bmw has kept the dash clean and simple...I think audi virtual system is cool, but I think I'd find it distracting after awhile
i like the new 5 series. it still looks sophisticated and sporty at the same time. Some people are complaining, that it hasn't changed much of the last series. But that is the beauty of it. It still has elements of the F10 and build some accents of the F30 and G11. You can really tell it is in the mid-luxury section of the bmw series. I love how BMW improve the new modells with some "small" changes
The only issue of the g30 is probably the big ass Key :-)

Good review Thomas. I liked the camera angle used when you were driving the car. It gave a 'driver's eye view' and so a good idea of what it feels like to drive. Looks like a useful upgrade on the 'old' model and, particularly with the interior, BMW has made a significant step forwards. I have owned several BMWs over the years and can definitely say they make a very good product. I have also been to the Munich plant and seen them being made. They really do go to great lengths to ensure the end result is a quality product. I have no connection with BMW by the way, other than being a satisfied customer.

A lot of preparation and energy and work in these videos - MUCH appreciated Thomas; good driving views out forward through the windscreen. Good to hear you liked the first gen E12 M. I like the interior lighting system, they've really thought about it. No air suspension, but as you've said before, 'air' could prove expensive to fix? Interesting to drive over bad surfaces in "sport" and you said it was still ok! A nice car to drive - just like the F10 I guess. It'll probably sell like hot cakes! Hope so.

Thomas you have one of the best jobs out there, especially on days like this when you get to test cars like this BMW, honestly a great car interior looks modern and classic at the same time and they didn't change the exterior too much because there was no need for it.

I really like how the digital cockpit instruments are reflecting the classic and simple known analog instruments.
Another flawless review Thomas. :D From 2010 BMW just made small changes to the looks of this car, they should probably make some bigger changes. I am not sure this is good in the long run. Underneath it is probably more drastic. You can just feel refinement, and that every detail is ironed out. Although I am a Mercedes fan I really like this car. Especially how cockpit wraps around you, while in Mercedes you have acres of space. And that BMW feel on the road. Just pure pleasure driving it on the curvy mountain roads. It is hard to compare it with E-Class because of a different approach. BMW is more focused on driving, and sportiness, while Mercedes is pure comfort and luxury. Audi is in between, but they have front wheel drive. Problem is that this is just a BMW 5 Series, but with Mercedes it is THE NEW E-Class. It all comes on personal preference but with the new E-Class you get so much more of everything. And as you said BMW is way behind in technologies, design, and pretty much everything else. Don't get me wrong this is till one of the best cars in the world, but you would expect more from BMW. Some might say perfection is hard to overcome, but Mercedes did it with the new E-Class.

I've been so waiting for this review. I have the F10 535 xdrive and absolutely love its refinement and all the little things that add up to a great motoring experience. Most people think the F10 has electric power steering but only the rear wheel drives do the xdrives are still hydraulic(G30's are all electric steering). Notice how stable the handling is, the way the sunroof headliner is power(the E-Class and A6 are both manual). Notice how smooth the power trunk closes compared to the rapid close and very un-luxury like thunk of the E-Class. Audis have become so staid in their design and still don't have true rear drive luxury proportions. The new E-class does have a pretty and luxurious interior but the mood lighting is too much, also the center console is the piano black plastic trim that is impossible to keep clean and scratches so easily. I think the new G30 will be a huge hit with its conservative styling, beautiful driving characteristics and BMW DNA. I always wanted you to do an F10 review Thomas so we could compare your thoughts on the old vs new platform. Now if I order a new one and pick it up at the Welt if only you would meet me there, have some dinner, good conversation and a drive on the autobahn...it would be a fantastic trip. haha!

It isn't interesting that I says each time that Tomas and autogefuhl reviews are the top of the top... Just saying that is a great car choice for premium classical sedan, I like the interior. I think we are arrived to the limit of the "old generation" of cars. With Hydrogen and full electric, we are now about to go into a brand new generation of cars.

Your English is really solid and seems to even be getting better and better. You're not far off a native speaker (especially considering I remember the misguided criticism of it in the past)! One small tip though, there is a typical mistake Germans make with the word "Series".
It is pronounced "SEE REES" and not "SEE RI ESS".

I got my 2017 Mercedes Benz E300 last month here in Toronto,compared to this 5 series I think I made the right choice, although it's no where near as sporty as the BMW, but it is a more relaxing, more family oriented luxury car. And after almost one month driving, I can confirm 4 cylinders gasoline engine actually work pretty good with this kind of mid size car, great fuel economy, and perfectly acceptable acceleration. Anyway, thanks for another great review Thomas.
*e class is premium car, luxury starts from rolls Royce and Bentley*

I'm thinking of ordering the E300 on may 2017 but I'm conflicted on my decision between it, this BMW or Audi A6.
Club Bmw Amg We have different judgement, but Rolls Royce and Bentley to me are not mainstream luxury brands. You can check motortrend, even Lexus is considered as a luxury brand.
al9affar Be sure to give at east 3 months for production, I waited for 4 months, but it is made in Germany, which I am quite happy about.
although the e34 in my opinion is the most beautiful 5 series ever, the e60 was the most revolutionary design in the line.
Great review, keep up the good work! I prefer the looks of my F10, it looks sportier than G30. Otherwise, G30 is a nice car but looks much less aggressive, it's a proper limo, a bit boring - just like the 7 series. I don't think I will go for it, I'd rather upgrade to 6 series Gran Coupe.

In my opinion the only Merc worth driving is a CLS...
Alex F10 Of course that would be your opinion... you own a modern BMW after all. That speaks volumes. A friend has had a current gen CLS for 4 years and it is most certainly not the best driving MB, and certainly not the only one worth it either... but it still drives better than an F10 550i. ;)
When I said CLS I was thinking primarily about design not performance. Also, Audi A7 is not bad and of course the new Panamera.
e39 was the best they made. Especially the e39 m5, still a pure true drivers car. The connection and symbiosis between man and machine you dont experience in newer models.

I think people like your simplicity and seriousness and I think they would watch it rather than channels where they only try to make fun.

You certainly have but I thought of something more complex, like top gear, only more decent and serious, where you could go through news in the world of cars, answer people's questions, compare cars, make reports, all in one longer episode. Not something overexciting, just keep it informative as usual. But that's just an idea. It is your channel and you can do whatever you want, I will keep watching your regular reviews.
We could do some discussion episodes, let me figure out smth

Thomas! Excellent review of the new BMW 5 series! I prefer the conservative look of the luxury line models. In addition, the 3 liter diesel with the X-drive system is my idea of a foul weather is perfect for my living conditions here. Sadly, where I live (U.S.) the federal government has this 'issues" with diesels these days.It's my hope we can get these fabulous vehicles sooner than later!
Favourite 5 series? E39 with M package and facelift for sure. Together with the M62/S62 engine (V8) it might be my favourite BMW of all time
I definitely feel like the F10 generation looks more "aggressive" and sporty...especially in M-Sport trim. Id love to have a M550d Touring.
The lighting in the final summary segment is so cool. And beautiful location.

Well, Thomas, you were 10 km from were I live. :) That hotel is Penha Longa Resort, near Sintra. And some of those roads were used in the old Portugal World Rally of group 4 and later, group B Championships. I hope you had a good time, nearby.

Es gibt so viele verschiedene RUclipsr und Kanäle die Autos vorstellen und testen aber ich kenne kaum einen RUclipsr ja das ist so perfekt und souverän beherrscht wie du.

However @ 10:24...there appears to be 1 or 2 cars missing...then you ask what is your favourite 5 series...however you did acknowledge that it was not popular.

+Autogefuhl - some journalists crashed them before? Who pays for that? And if a journalist crashes a new test car, or abuses a new test car or press car and say damages its engine or transmission, who pays? And will the journalist ever get asked back...?
My favorite gen of 5 series so far is the latest version, and I think 5th gen is also classic. I like my 535i e60. Twin turbo power is great and the steering is precise.
thomas, it would be cool if when you hit the sport mode ( the dash turns red) for the interior ambient lighting to also turn red (would feel like the whole car is ready to engage in sport driving)
Super car. Love the attention to detail - and BMW haven't done too badly either.
E60 LCI is the best. We have had one since 2007 best car my family have ever owned. I'm biassed but it's my favourite 5 series.
Dear Thomas, really like your videos, keep up the good work! Small remark though, I have noticed in many of your videos when you test the "child safety" system of electronic trunks after the first try you always go for the second try without letting the system to reset. After the first try you should fully close and open the trunk in order the "child safety" function to work again.

appreciated man! Good question. Both cars have something, I like the riding more on the 5-Series, but the style in the front and in the interior more with the E-Class. BMW offers fabric seats as standard and that M Package to add fabric/alcantara mix. Mercedes has fabric, full leatherette and AMG microfibre/leatherette mix so also both offer enough leather alternatives. Guess it's about personal taste then. Oh and the optional mega sound system is better with the E. Guess the E43 combines the advantages of the normal E with the ride of a normal 5-Series :) -> ruclips.net/video/Q3cfNnl-_S4/видео.html

What is the point of calling this M550 a 550 when the engine isn't 5.0L? Who are they trying to fool. This started with the 328 which wasn't a 2.8 V6 but a 2.0L 4 cylinder.

Very detailed review again Thomas, is there any chance you could try the car horn in future car reviews? It is not a very important part of the car abviously, but it might inch you even closer to a perfect review setup.

Will probably get used to the looks but I prefer the looks of the outgoing model. Favourite is the E39 followed by the outgoing one.
Every review of this car mentions that it's 100Kg lighter than it's predecessor (the E60). The series F10 (528) was exactly 100Kg heavier than the E60 (523) even though it had two fewer cylinders than the E60. So the fact that they've trimmed the weight of the new G30 by 100Kg isn't really so impressive. It's still heavier than the E60.
MY favorite gen is the 5 generation , 5 generation , 5 generation over and over again

The new 5-series is nice. Especially the interior. But for me, the F10/11 is the prettier design. Not overly cluttered with bling. Perfection in my eyes.

bmw has really outdone itself this time. light-years ahead of the E. the E is a tin car compared to this one they use cheap plastics in their interiors. This will leave the 5 in the dust. Well done bmw! The king of its segment

It is just me or luxury line Steering Wheel (looks on move almost exacly like G11 steering wheel) is much beter than G30 M version?

Why not leather ?
Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic!
First to the practical reasons:
1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
2. they are cold in winter
3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done.
Still, now to the environmental reasons:
1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals.
4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense.
5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.

Can't see the change from old 5 series. But still the upgrade is worth it. You can't hate a beamer. Can you?
Just a small styling tip, those sneakers gotta go. A pair of Stan Smith's would complete the outfit. A pair of desert boots would also go well with the outfit.

Hey Thomas, excelent rewiew! Can I ask you if you could check if that car had adaptive dampers, cause from what I've read from other sources the "Adaptive Drive" is avaible with adaptive dampers only, not with standard spring. Thanks, looking foward for the "home" rewiew next year!

I thought it was a little strange driving around on the unmade roads in sports mode instead of comfort. it would have been interesting to see how it would have dealt with the surface in a soft setting
