    When I was looking to buy an M2 in 2018, the new model with the S55 came out. I heart it at the dealer, and quickly decided I ABsOLUTELY needed the N55 sound. New N55 LBB was almost sold out through out Canada and I had to "import it" myself from Vancouver to Montreal. My neighbor owns a M4 with the S55, and every morning, when he starts his car to go to work, I feel bad for him...:) He might do 0-60 a couple tenths of a second faster than me, but how often do you do 0-60 runs anyways? but the sound of the N55, every day I hear it, and every day it makes me grin.

      Exactly and when we talk about the acceleration, the most important part is the beginning. That's where the fun is, in the first one or two seconds when you put your foot down; And for this first part, the M2 is quicker at first. So N55 M2 all the way. Sound and fun. :)

    Great vid as usual Paul. It was your original ownership logs that helped make me decide to get my own LCI in mineral grey. No regrets at all, and whilst I like the power bump on the Comp', the sound of the N55 wins hands down for me.

  • @maxfrederick7703
    @maxfrederick7703 4 года назад +12

    Great vid, obviously the n55 sounds a lot sweeter..... the s55 exhaust routing is apparently the issue. But it doesn’t sound hideous. I’ve had my lci for over two years and love the thing.... it’s a keeper. Loved all your previous vids on your old car. Helped me with my decision to buy mine. If I was new to the M2 then I’d get the comp but I wouldn’t exchange the sound for the seats and features.... it would feel like I’ve swapped the sound for those and paid 20k plus for the privilege and that’s just not worth it in my opinion. Sound is such a big part of a performance car.

  • @chribba1973
    @chribba1973 4 года назад +19

    Great video! The sound from the LCI is so much nicer. Even though I have fitted my M2C with an akrapovic exhaust, it doesn´t sound half as good. The only time the M2C sounds OK is when you rev it to the limit. Then it sounds pretty nice. But I guess that is the price you have to pay. In the future, these type of cars will just sound less and less due to all the coming regulations.

    Before buying an M2C I had a comparison between two at a dealer. I couldn’t tell if the M2C was inferior to M2 OG. Someone says the twin turbo makes sounds a bit suppressed but I think it is more to do with OPF deployed in M2C. In Australia we don’t have the opf. When the engine reaches rpm 5k it sounds like a gun shooting, very loud.

    I sold my M2 and wanted to buy an M2 CS... but in the end I decided for an 8 years old 1M with just 4000 km (paid as new). Frankly speaking the 1M is another world... and it is immune from depreciation. So far BMW has been producing at least 50’000 M2s... and for example here in Switzerland you can find new M2s Competition for just CHF 60k.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  4 года назад +1

      I doubt that number is correct. The number of M2's that we're built (OG M2 and M2 LCi) is around 12.000, so I don't think OG m2 + competition is more than 20.000 honestly. I don't think any car is immune to depreciation to be honest. You can find 1M's in Sweden for around 35k euros now, down 5k from last year's prices.
      So I don't know, I think this is dependant on where you live, actually. That being said I think baby M-cars hold their value much better than other cars. I lost about 10% when I sold my M2 last year. And considering I drove it around 17.000kms and 18 months I would say that's not bad at all.

      @@TunedIntoCars well I think in terms of the bad economy now you will make 20-22% easy. The only problem could be the delivery time because corona stopped the assembly line in Munich. And also i tell u what: u'll always get the best deal when u place your order in the last 2 working days on an ending year-quarter because the companies are making their quarter year financial statements

      Rob Moody What do you mean by bad image? Yes 20% discount is common in Australia. People used to pay aud 100-110 K a year ago. I heard it is sold around aud 90K nowadays.

      @Blackbird ///M2 not at all. Shawn is referring to exhaust noise, and the EU setup is bad. But be more precise yourself - "engine sound note and signature" are "timbre" and, at that level, you need to acknowledge you're comparing two different engines, with the S55 being the twin-turbo superior model 😃

    You're wrong about no suspension changes... look at that carbon strut in the engine bay, which the OG M2 didn't have. In terms of noise, why are people stupidly comparing 2 different engines? Besides, only EU and UK S55 are ruined by OPF.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  4 года назад

      Why are you so upset? :) It's just a video.
      1. I am correct about the suspension. Name me one difference. The carbon strut is not part of the suspension
      2. We are comparing two different engines because that's what a 'comparison' is. You compare A to B, not A with another A. Plus there are a lot of people that want to hear the differences between an OG M2 and a Competition model.
      That's it.

    Standard m2 isn’t special enough. Might as well buy a standard 2series msport

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  4 года назад +6

      I've never heard that from anyone that ever drove a standard M2. And I can clearly tell you didn't drive one since you're comparing it to an m-sport 2series. Those two cars couldn't be more different driving wise

    • @mperformance3502
      @mperformance3502 4 года назад

      I’ve driven the m2c. I’m
      Simply basing off the motor. N55 is just a beefed up standard bmw motor.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  4 года назад +5

      The standard M2 is just as fast as the m2c and it uses the same suspension, same diff, same steering... I mean yes, the N55 is a 'standard' engine beefed up by the M Division. But it's still one of the best engines BMW has ever made.
      I've said this in a previous video but people need to stop judging engines based on the internal code.
      After driving both M2s now I have to say that both are pretty special in their own way and, for me at least, they're the best BMW products since the 1M

    • @mperformance3502
      @mperformance3502 4 года назад

      Like you said, n55 is a standard bmw motor. You can always upgrade suspension on the standard 2series msport. But end of the day, a true M car should have a special motor imo. Why do you think the US e36 m3 gets hated on? M2 isn’t rare enough like a 1M to be sought after, especially when there’s an m2 with a S55.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  4 года назад +2

      @@mperformance3502 I don't understand what you're saying. You can easily update a 2 series m-sport to an F80 M3 suspension? How? Also, what's so special about the S55 engine? Just the fact that the code starts with an S?
