The interesting thing is that the Western view of the "animalistic" describes 1980s New York more than the amazon or any so called "jungle". The people that live in the forest or the so called "state of nature" are not the ones that are "war horny" or with imaginaries of the "purge". The Hobbesian state of "nature" as an orgy of lawlessness and chaos is uniquely Western. Not so amongst the cultures of the planet. The clear evidence for Shahid's main point is the encounter between Christopher Columbus and the Arawak people he met when he first arrived in the so called "new world":
"They ... brought us parrots and balls of cotton and spears and many other things, which they exchanged for the glass beads and hawks' bells. They willingly traded everything they owned... . They were well-built, with good bodies and handsome features.... They do not bear arms, and do not know them, for I showed them a sword, they took it by the edge and cut themselves out of ignorance. They have no iron. Their spears are made of cane... . They would make fine servants.... With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want."
From "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn.
    Nuff said.

It is not a terrible thing to have characteristics of the animal kingdom. All species have survival as a primary goal. If it works for the benefit of my health and safety then that is a good thing. We still a cave man brain with newer editions added on and around it. If I I in a situation of danger I would be happy to have remnants of my caveman ancestors who survived by finding ways for fight dinosaurs. Unfortunately, we as humans tap into that part of our brain when dealing with conflict. We carry the fear we had watching dinosaurs eat our friends. The development or lack of development of humanity and mental health conditions Olay a larger role in the leadership of society than what you might think. First on the American scene were people who were no longer desirable in their own country. People were released from prisons and mental health facilities. Highly rigid religious groups came that were not entirely welcome at the home front. It took a certain kind of person to settle into the early US. I do not condone violence and greed and self centered beliefs but I do try and understand it. We have come to a place where if we do not fix it then we all may perish.

The more materialistic they can make humanity, the more financial gain they skim and print from their financial control of currencies. Spirituality, identification with nature, what is natural, and normal natural values and freedom, are all contradictory to their goal of creating materialism which is not natural but is taught and imposed. Their financial gains are the theft of labor, the more materialistic one is, the more he will labor for things he does do not need. Great, insightful video as always on this channel. Thank you.

Mr. Bolsen, Sir, I am German and was raised Protestant but developed into an open minded philosopher hopefully, and I do totally appreciate your level of critical thinking. When you said that the Western civilization assumes a too negative image of the human which then causes all the predator behavior that touches me deeply and pushes me into a rethink whether this is really the core (mistake) of our Western or Northern “civilization”. Obviously, the history of war and colonization seems to prove you right but I think you forget the age-old dynamics between ruler and ruled, between powerful and powerless, between the 1% and the 99% when you generalize about the West. It you look to German villages of the past for example, there were living 90% farmers in the valley and only 1% in the castle above with maybe 9% merchants and soldiers around them. The vast majority of the population has almost no power and wasn’t predatory at all, and they assumed good in the fellow human being and celebrated it in many village festivals, plays music in all scales to all kinds of dances in all kinds of fashions and built beautiful cities with all kinds of inventions also because of mere joy of life and spiritual thankfulness for health, green pastures and nice weather. So, it was only a tiny fraction which never got enough and started all the global conquer and greed and don’t forget Islam spread out with as much terror as Roman Empires or Christianity or Dachingis Khan or Chinese Emperors. So assuming your fellow human being be of a bad nature is rather a game of power elites everywhere not of a certain geographical region or the masses.

Iceman Inheritance or "Latitude Attitude" type theories have been put forth by many scholars like Michael Bradley,
and Dr. Edwin Nichols for decades. Nevertheless, there is some powerful insight here from Mr. Bolsen as always. I learned from Dr. Nichols that the "Western" negative view of humanity comes from limited dichotomous thinking that brings forth questions like, "Are human beings good or evil?" "Is it nature or nurture? And ideas like "All or nothing. And so on.

I can attest to how the party I was engaged with, went on the defensive, missing the entire directive as to what the conversation was really about. I had to throw my hands up and realize they just weren't or care to focus on why the conversation came to be. I listen to your dialogue on various topics and come away with fullness. Thankyou.. But he attributes the ideals of Islam to be universally adopted and acted on by all Muslims. Yet, the economic and political elites among Muslims and the commerce driven nations of the Muslim world act exactly the way the western nations and societies act.

Concept of keeping the "nafs in check" .
Which in itself is so robust and nuanced they would just take a reductionist and plain literal approach to it. Because it requires compromising on many aspect of dunya, which they would hardly want and go through the transition. Just imagine when they say and believed Jesus died for their sin, so they live in denial, even though they know it very well why any sane individual would think that way and why Jesus pbuh would do that when he came with THE message to reform people for their stray ways.
Even then they found out excuse to twist it and make it convinient and to be comfortable in their skin, so that they can continue with their abhorent morals and values.

Although I agree with many of his points, I find nothing base or ignoble in seeing human beings as animals. Animals are neither good nor evil, and so the term "animalistic" carries no shame. Yet at the same time, animals vary amongst themselves in what they do, in how they live. Spiders spin webs. Bees produce hives and honey. Beavers create dams and lodges. Human beings are animals who tell stories about themselves and about the world, and who struggle by various methods to understand themselves and the world with more honesty. We are one species amongst many others, but we have our special aptitudes, our special aspirations.
I feel no shame in being an animal, but I do feel shame when our species characteristics of thought, empathy, cooperation, and invention are blocked or denied by people in power for the sake of their power.
