  • When installing my top hung window I accidently locked the window into position and the springs engaged so this is how I had to release them. However, I have since realised there is an easier way that isn't really advertised. • How to disengage Velux...
    Thanks for watching!

    Took delivery of a top hung yesterday, inadvertently engaged the springs while taking the window apart and it turns out I have the same problem with the bars being missing,
    Needed to disengage the springs again before fitting so I tried the Velux "instructional" videos which are always bad but because they didn't show it in detail I could not tell the bars were missing.
    (I actually call them Magic shows as they show you what they have done but not how they did it)
    Glad I saw your vid before I spent way too long working it out or even worst jammed my screwdriver somewhere I shouldn't and broke something.
    Appreciate you taking the time to make this and actually detailing what you had done, that one drawing on the back of a bit of scrap cardboard of the "shark" saved me a load of bother.

      Wahoo! Glad I've saved you a headache! I wonder if velux have just stopped putting the bars in all together? Maybe they sell a special expensive tool to disingage them now 🤷‍♂️

      @@bitemyshinymetalass1434 Hey mate, someone just posted a link above for the new design of how they are released. The old windows had the bar between but the new design has a flat plate you lift up. I was gob smacked and went to try it immediately. It didn't work straight away as I didn't pull the window down slightly before I pulled the plate up. Just letting you know if you ever do it again! haha

    *PLEASE READ!* There is an easier way to release the springs in this video ruclips.net/video/PoeMjqL7Q0w/видео.html
    If you have an old Velux there is a bar between the 'sharks eyes' that made it easier to lift up the catch but the new design is totally different. I don't know why they can't put this stuff in the instructions grrrrrr

    Life saver, sawn off small tent peg to hook in hole and pull up. When done one side need to keep mild downward pressure on it when you pull other side up otherwise re-engages

    But could you please clarify how the spring mechanism is actually meant to be activated?

    • @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT
      @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT  27 дней назад

      It's designed to do it once installed though, that's what holds the window open. It's just a pain if the spring and catch engages before you get it installed. If you watch my other video which is linked in my pinned comment it'll show you the other method which is easier. For some reason velux don't put it in their instructions 🤷

    Had this happen us about 2 months ago mate. On all 4 we fitted. Best bet is to tape the sash arms down in the closed position to the frame to keep it together.. when you take the window out the frame from the box you’ll pop the spring if you let it open in top hung mode like that. Separate the window/frame out of the box in center pivot mode. You have to open it in top hung mode for the first time only once it’s been fitted and then it will pop and the spring will set in then. Big pain we only figured this out after fitting 2. Fitted 2x SK10 in combination and another 2 SK10 singles. Pain to handle a window that size and weight let alone the spring locking up on us. We kept the sash arms taped closed for the last 2, just to be safe. so it couldn’t open in top hung mode on us and lock us out till we cut the tape keeping the arms down when you have the window set.

    • @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT
      @THE-AIDEN-PROJECT  3 года назад +1

      Yeah that's a good idea with the tape 👍 We didn't have a problem with the first one so not sure how we ended up having a brain fart on the second 🤷‍♂️

      @@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT it’s easy happen. They’d really want to put a warning on the sash. Or tape them down from factory with rip off tabs or something. Lesson learnt for the next one anyway 🤣

      Hey David, yes it is, I've linked that video in mine and in the description as per my pinned comment. Unfortunately their new video isn't well titled for search engine optimisation and so I only found their old version. It would appear they changed the design in the past year or so. Unfortunately velux have decided not to put any details of this in their instructions. We live and learn. Lots of people have struggled with this so I'll leave my video up to sign post them to the right technique. Hopefully you will see this reply as youtube will delete your comment for having put a link in
