    I am waiting for this channel to do a vid on women who let their hair go gray. I am tired of people asking me how come I don't dye my hair. There is a freedom in that too. 😑

    Funny how society cant understand women shaving their hair off and see it as a sign of emotional instability. I live in a traditional and conservative town and im the only girl with a short pixie cut. (Technically 1.5 inch buzz) I like being unique and though the weird stares are uncomfortable at times. I have fun imagining what is going on in their heads. Its fun making others uncomfortable just cause of my simple looks.

    • @roseinskyrim
      @roseinskyrim 4 года назад +22

      Because maybe they (the town?) think like someone I know, that the image of a ‘true woman’ is having long, flowing locks, that that’s the way a woman ‘should be’-‘(god) even says so in the Bible’.
      Until she gets old, then apparently that’s what women do, cut their hair shorter/have shorter hairstyles.
      So if they see any woman idk, looking under 50, if they have short hair, oh no, oh dear, how unnatural. And if they get it colored, Lord help that poor soul, tsk tsk. Why she would want to change/decorate her body like that...

    I shaved my head three days ago and hearing these women made me feel so free for having done that. I already got some negative feedback from my family, my very much loved grandma said she was disappointed in me, which I couldn't resonate with and it made me so upset I cried. But it served as a lesson about me standing up for who I am and for what I decide to do with my body, and if someone wants to believe that that means I have a flawed character, so be it, they're not worth the trouble.

    • @Momma_AL

      I shaved my head about 3 years ago and kept it shaved for almost a year. Then grew it to a super short pixie which is what I have now. Mannnnn I got harassed from old men I don’t know and the old men at my gym for 2 months. I let them know in a nice way I don’t care what they think they but they wouldn’t stop harassing me until one day I snapped and I went OFF on them. It was like they just wanted to bully me and get their way and intimidate me into growing it out again but I kept going shorter and shorter and it pissed them off. The crazy thing is I was cool with them till I shaved my head but some people have nothing better to do than try to control others. I have NO regrets for shaving it except I wish I would have done it sooner.

      That's when you can truly weed out those who love conditionally vs those who love unconditionally. And not looking at your own daughter........because of her hair length???? That's pretty disturbing. You're supposed to love and accept your children no matter WHAT they look like. What happens (god forbid) you get cancer and lose your hair because of radiation. Is mom going to be so disgusted she won't look at you? If yes, then you need to re-think your willingness to value and trust her as "family" and someone you can count on for love and comfort. A mother's love KNOWS NO BOUNDS! Period! That's said, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with women who choose to have buzz cuts or a shaved head. If it's okay for f'ng men to do it then it's perfectly fine for women to do it.

    I was extremely attached to my hair, it influenced a lot of my decisions (especially considering I straightened it so my mood changed with the weather). When I had cancer and decided to shave, I was able to see myself in the mirror for the first time. The confidence boost was immediate. I feel what these girls are saying, and I'm going to shave it again.

    Lost my waist length hair over 20 years ago to chemotherapy. Didn't realize til then how much I relied on my hair to define me. Since then I've never let it grow longer then a pixie, sometimes with a bit of faux hawk on top. People love it and those that don't , don't matter. What I find interesting is that as a single lady how many men comment on my short hair and how they like it but then say I would be more attractive with long hair. No second date there!!!! Ladies, it's up to you to find what makes you feel empowered. If its short hair, a red lipstick, or the perfect pair of jeans.....love it, live it, own it, rock it. And don't let anyone tell you differently about who you should be.

    I shaved my head out of curiosity years ago, coming from waist length; I knew it was something I wanted to experience in my lifetime.
    I want to say that it was as empowering as I thought it would be, but to be completely honest- I regretted every second of waiting for it to grow back years to come. Looking in the mirror was sometimes so painful to me. For some, hair has implications towards spiritual ties & isn't "just hair." Shaving has shaped who I am & given more wholesome perspective on beauty & life but it wasn't all rainbows.

The only problem was my dad. I asked him and he said why. I told him why not but then he told me the most hurting words ever. He said “Girls should have long beautiful hair.” I am crying just typing it. All my life I have been told no this and no that, just because I am a girl. I would want to mow the lawn and he would say no because I am a girl and that’s not a girl’s job and that I should help my mom take care of my little sister or help her cook. Well, I just realised that I’m only plan b. So I’m gathering courage to shave my head. I want to start a new chapter. I want to find myself. I want to be better. I don’t understand why men and women are obsessed with how women are “supposed” to look. People can be so shallow. Men really don’t have to try hard to be attractive but women go through hell and back to have perfect hair, perfect skin, the perfect body. It makes me sad how a lot of men out there only see women for their appearances and not for who they really are. I would hate to judge a man solely on how he looks. Sure, I like men that take care of themselves and have basic hygiene. Everyone needs basic hygiene. But our worth shouldn’t be defined on how short or long our hair is, how big our boobs and butt are, or how big our lips are. News flash! Not everyone really looks like the carbon copy Instagram model influencers you see in heavily edited photos. Attraction is important , but when it gets nitpicky then it’s ridiculous. Society has very unrealistic standards of beauty. I don’t expect all men to look like a giga chad, 6 ft tall, chiseled jaw, rock hard abs, etc. So why should women have to always look like they came off a catwalk or a photoshoot? I love my hair, but I can easily live without it despite the nasty comments by people in the past (true story) I was called a boyish lesbian, mannish, a cancer patient, emotionally unbalanced (I was compared to Britney Spears having a meltdown by my own bf at the time) even a neo nazi by my own mother. Because of what others had said, I felt like I lost every feminine aspect about me when I shaved my head. I’ll never understand how we determine womanhood and femininity by the length of hair. I’ve always wanted to shave my head and have wigs in rotation so I always have something new to express myself with. And that’s ok. Let people do what they want. It’s not your life.

I know most women feel more feminine after having done it, but I feel like I'm finally embracing that masculine side of me and its been so empowering. Feels like people around me can finally see who I am on the inside. Against what I expected, they've been incredibly supportive. The hair makes me feel powerful. It seems to tell people who don't know me, that I'm a brave individual. As cliche as that sounds, it has helped me to come out of my shell.

It's even harder to be seen as a woman without the luxury of waves framing your face and it's a fear I know a lot of my sisters(and cisters) carry. To me, shaving my head is my way of saying that I don't need anyone else's validation because I know exactly who I am. I don't need to be the most feminine being on the planet to be a woman.

    I have wanted to shave my head for awhile now. I'm 16 and this is the best time for me to do it. I'm struggling with my self esteem and self confidence but my parents are so hell bent on the idea of me being bullied that they won't let me. all I want is to be happy with myself and they don't understand it. This is all I'm asking for for Christmas. All I want is to shave my head.

      Do it! It's your life and your hair alone. You're definitely old enough to decide which hairstyle you want to have.

      Thunder Cheeks Same here! Except my parents would let me, I would just get judgement for a day or two. The only thing that is holding me back is the fact that I'm fat (including my face) and I felt like my hair hid my cheeks and double chin :-/

    I shaved all my hair off again the other day and I feel amazing! I get a lot more looks because of the fact that I have no hair rather than my weight! If you want to shave your hair off, just do it! Screw what others think!

    I shaved my head three weeks ago and it’s amazing. I feel so wonderful, there is an intimacy with yourself when you no longer have hair. You really see yourself and you really don’t give a fuck anymore. It’s so freeing and wonderful. I don’t have to worry about hair care or products or doing my hair in the morning. I’ve saved so much money and time. And I’ve gotten so many compliments on how pretty my face is because there’s nothing else to focus on! Lol. Seriously, a shaved head brings such freedom. I love it.

    I shaved my head a few weeks ago and it's amazing! So much freedom and since I have a filter for people with shaved heads on my eyes now I can tell you I've never seen anyone who didn't look great with a buzz cut! It makes the eyes pop and it's really like I can see them better/properly. So if you think about it, do it!!!! It's an amazing and freeing experience!

    I'm 50, and naturally grey (though I do dye it because I love color)... I'm going to shave my head and start wearing cool wigs just because I want to... freedom of choice has always been my "thing"... curious how my elderly parents and my HS students will feel about it - not that it will change what I am going to do, but more as a sociological 'interest'... I DO WHAT I WANT!! LOL

    I somewhat agree to this. Yes, it is empowering to shave your head, and I've thought about it too. They are saying how hair shouldn't define us, well then why do clothes define us? Hair is a form of self expression, and as obsessed as some people are with it it goes the same with clothing. Fashion is art, and one of the best ways of self expression, why don't we just walk around naked to "love ourselves, inside and out." And look in the mirror and "see ourselves for the first time". The way we are on the outside helps express what is on the inside. Anyways, great on them for shaving their head that takes lots of guts! Hope I can do it one day just so experience what it's like :)

      Everyone sees hair first. It's the closest thing to your face so it's most important than clothes.

      +BlendedBeautyXO Same, my mom use to already freak out when I'd cut my hair shoulder length, she'd throw a fit if I shaved it. xD;
      (and because it would help relieve migraines I actually had a section of hair out of view that'd I'd cut to my scalp, my mom when she found out and saw it because she wanted to brush my hair, she was asking me if I was trying to look ugly, and why I was trying to look like a boy, and she saw me every single day and literally didn't know it was like that under my hair for months until she wanted to brush my hair.... xD; )

    Recently done it , I was baptized beforehand a week or so ago, and I have this strong feeling God is actually happy with my decision, God doesn't hate us shaving our heads because we are not our bodies, he loves us unconditionally and he understands why we do things, don't let anyone tell you that you're going to hell for doing things to help you feel better, God didn't make hell for us, he made hell for Satan and his angels....God loves all of his creations , his love goes far deeper than what the mind can comprehend, I'm so happy and never have I felt this confident , I wish I shaved my head sooner. Don't let false rules control you, if God has a problem with what you're doing he'll tell you in more ways than one. Trust me .

    My goal since I was 12 was to shave my head before I turned 30. On New Year's Eve 2018, right before I turned 29, I shaved my head. When Megan said in this video that she found the experience to be one of the most empowering moments she's ever had, that resonated with me. I finally see my most stripped down self. I feel simultaneously vulnerable and stronger than ever. It's been incredibly freeing to let go of the idea that there's a correlation between the amount of hair one has and the level of attractiveness one is able to attain. There are numerous societal concepts revolving around beauty that I'll continue to unlearn from this process, and I look forward to the growth that will come from that.

    I just shaved my head, and it really does feel awesome to have. My dad wouldn't let me do it, because he said that I wouldn't look "pretty" anymore, so I waited until I was home alone and did it myself. It was a bit of a hack job, but I really love it and have no plans to grow it out anytime soon! I have had people at school ask me if I was a boy or a girl, as well as small children, but that's okay.

    I have long hair and I love it.
    I am not "hiding behind my hair" or think that without hair I "will see myself" like these girls are saying. I cut my hair short once and it was not empowering for me at all.
    I simply like long hair. In both men and women. I feel like it's a bond with earth in a way, it's more natural and beautiful, balanced and flowy.(yes I do shave parts of my body, indeed hair is natural everywhere but I prefer the elf-like beauty of smooth skin).
    Everyone has their own opinion. there is not right or wrong here.

    • @rac717
      @rac717 9 лет назад +3

      +NadiaNasedo Good for YOU, Nadia. I think these women are confused. Long hair is simply something beautiful that many women enjoy. It has been called a woman's "richest ornament". The earth will not quake if a woman shaves her head, but to some, it is plain foolish to get a bad short or burred haircut just to "discover yourself" or prove some point that few others understand.

    • @pinakewlata
      @pinakewlata 9 лет назад +24

      +rac717 And by sacrificing something "beautiful" something equally positive will take it's place. You are reaching by calling these women confused. To them it is not a "bad haircut" , its a sort of rebirth, a powerful statement to themselves & a testament that true beauty and femininity shouldn't be defined by hair.
      @nadianasedo
      It is much like a bond with the earth , that is a beautiful way to put it.
      Ive noticed that a lot of women define their beauty , their identity even , by their hair. To sacrifice that , and find beauty in other ways , is the message.

    • @roxslide

      I undestand what you are saying. I think they are talking more about what hair means in society, and also the extreme attachment some women have to their hair. like crying if they get a couple inches cut off more than they want. Shedding those weights, not the actual hair, is liberating. The thing is, it's easy to notice how important hair is to people when you live without hair. As a woman whose had short hair for many years, you get a lot of strange comments. A lot of ppl came up to me and asked why I did that, or tell me they don't approve. I think you can defy society's "rules" in many ways though, not just in hair.

    • @SixelaFaelan

      +NadiaNasedo to each her own. (: for them, having long hair and cutting it off symbolised something different for them; and likewise, it does for you. the length of your hair doesn't determine how "strong" or "confident" you are about yourself. but this video was just about showing another perspective, especially to the people who judge and ridicule them, it's not trying to instigate that women who shave their heads are above those who don't.
