The word is Chatoyance, pronounced I believe " Sha- Toy- Ance". Some people call it "luster", I prefer to call it "Shimmer". And that super curly maple is also called "Tiger Maple" because of those "stripes".

Thanks Skylar. Here's an idea for something to make with very small pieces. I take about a 2 inch hole saw, remove the center bit, and produce a piece that I use to make "wooden" pocket watches. After I cut the blank, I dress up the perimeter on a lathe. Then with a forstner bit I drill halfway through for a clock insert the I get from a place called "Klockit". Also I turn a fake winding stem usually from a different species of wood. I think the inserts are 1 7/16 diameter and cost less than 20$. I have made dozens of these and given them away as gifts. Also they have an even smaller insert that you can se to make a pendant watch necklace.
That sounds wonderful. My daughter loves pocket watches. I don’t have a lathe ( yet) but would love to buy one of yours creations please to gift to my daughter for her birthday

when i bought my first 2 boxes ther were$135, Soon after they raised the price to 150

Ordered a Mystery Box last week and got it today, not very happy with what I got! Some was split and some had bark that made it unusable. For the price of $135.00 I feel let down.
Oh, no! I am sorry you were disappointed. What kind of wood you got? So far I got 5 boxes from them. 3 of them I was really really happy. 2 of them were so so ( to much Clark walnut in them. None of my pieces were split or damaged. I wonder if a lot of people ordered them and they ran oof good stuff to put in it? I noticed after I did my first unboxing the price went up from 135 to 150. Not very happy about that
