    In this video I am playing on a Gretsch Brooklyn series 4-piece drum kit. This amazing drum kit really gives off a vintage vibe and feel. From the look to the tone you can just tell that there is a great history to the drums, even though they come out of todays modern manufacturing. Gretsch drums were born in Brooklyn way back in the 1800's and their sound has stood the test of time. Gretsch drums are some of the most recorded in music history. The famous quote "That Great Gretsch Sound" definitely applies to this kit. It sounds great and looks great too!
    The Gretsch Brooklyn 4-piece shell pack comes with 6-ply maple/poplar shells that have 30 degree bearing edges. You get 7" x 10" and 8" x 12" rack toms, a 14" x 16" floor tom, and an 18" x 22" kick drum. The drums have the same hardware that comes on the USA custom drums, such as 3mm double-flanged metal "302" hoops, USA Custom lugs, and the GTS tom mounting system. On the inside of the drum shells is the classic Gretsch Silver Sealer. The icing on the cake is the extremely cool looking Cream Oyster wrap.
    Are you looking for a drum kit with great looks, sound, and vibe? Then you have to check out this Gretsch Brooklyn series 4-Piece Shell Pack. You'll be glad you did. Thanks for watching!

    I find it interesting that you always hear that the Recording Custom is the most recorded kit of all time, but here Nick says that Gretsch drums are the most recorded. If I were to guess I’d say gretsch has been recorded more

    I’ve noticed a number of RUclips demonstrations, don’t use matching Brooklyn snares.
    Considering they are very good snares, I can’t understand why.
    It’s the most important part of a kit.
    These are beautiful drums and my pick of the Gretsch series.
    Very vintage warmth.

      Roy Beckerman Because they don’t come with the shell pack, so they want to avoid any confusion customers might have about getting the snare along with the kit. It’s kind of a weird concept for people who haven’t played drums before.

      I know..but if you were making a decision from RUclips, which many who buy online do, I’m sure they would like to hear the matching Brooklyn snare...
      By all means tell them it’s an additional cost, but at least let them hear it.
      I’ve bought quite a few snares site unseen, purely going the RUclips videos.
      Some other dealers demonstrate these with the matching snare..

    If I ever find a place to live with my drums set up without reservation again I will seriously consider the Brooklyn Broadcaster Gretsch or the Classic series.
    The size of the drums and type of drumheads mean the world to me.
    I am a lifelong drummer, and I know what I want almost 50 years old, and been at it seriously since early childhood.
    I have a limited edition Pearl Brazilian percussion conversion drumset now, but not really able to use it as much time.
    For me, Gretsch, even the Catalina Club Jazz series, stood out, over the years, as particularly memorable tone and what I felt as, more like my own instrument, more than anything else I ever had a chance to play, in or out of studios, bars, shows.
    The Broadcaster line I feel, in the right drum configuration, could be the Best I have yet to see as a drummer.
    18" Bass
    14" Floor
    12" Tom
    Standard all I want.
    Best regards,
    Austin Emile Centolella

    I think these are the nicest shells on the Gretsch range. You can tune these up down around and back again. They sound great playing them as well 15-20 feet out front. I use Sabian HHX cymbals with them and I'm thrilled with the sound and versatility. The only genre I think I'd use a different Gretsch shell with would jazz. Broadkaster would be ticket there. Just my opinion.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  8 лет назад +2

      This is an older video and we mic drums a bit differently now. But back then it was most likely a Royer R-121 ribbon mic in front of the kick drum and a Rode NT4 stereo mic above the drum kit. Pretty straight ahead set up, just trying to have the drums sound natural. The big difference now is that I am able to use more mics but still get a natural sound. Take care, Nick

    Great warm, smooth sound, but don’t like the toms attached to the cymbal stands.
    Old school....prefer toms attached to the bass drum, as they’ve been for a hundred years.
    Virgin bass drums are a lot of rubbish and hype.

    • @219Dave
      @219Dave 5 лет назад

      Roy Beckerman Many old drum set photos show the mounted tom on a snare stand, not mounted on the bass drum. I think of virgin bass drums as being old school.

    • @roybeckerman9253

      219Dave
      Most photos I seen of the old great drummers, had the tom attached to the bass drums.
      Using snare stands were rare, although I’m using one now on a vintage Slingerland kit, because the tom holder is a bit flimsy, as sometimes can happen with vintage.
      I actually like using the snare stand a lot.

    • @susanmaggiora4800
      @susanmaggiora4800 3 года назад +1

      Roy Beckerman I’m a big fan of bass drum tom mounts. I think it’s much easier, especially if you’re playing a lot of gigs & the ‘virgin’ drum thing is a crock. I bet 90% of drummers (or even higher) have some damping in their bass drums, so why the need for a virgin bass. I actually think the whole mounting systems are silly too. My Ludwig mounts old school, with a mount that goes into the tom & it’s resonant as hell. It’s mostly marketing, but I absolutely don’t want to spend another 150-200 bucks on extra stands to mount my toms after I’ve already dropped a lot of money on the kit.

    I've read that 5 lug toms are to be avoided since they are more difficult to tune and the hoops are harder to repair/replace. They recommended staying with 6 lugs at a minimum.

      Bring back mounted toms! I hate hanging toms off stands. Precarious at best and they take up too much room. A manufacturing trend that went the wrong way. I never heard the merits of virgin bass drums.

    • @goldenageofdinosaurs7192
      @goldenageofdinosaurs7192 5 лет назад +2

      Roy Beckerman I’ve never understood that. It doesn’t effect the resonance enough to matter & it saves you one or 2 extra stands. Aesthetically, I think it looks better as well. That beautiful, central tom holder was the 1st thing I noticed when I walked in a music store & laid eyes on my old Yamaha kit, way back in ‘85.
      I recently was looking around for a Ludwig Classic Maple kit & was lucky enough to find a lightly used kit that was ordered with a tom holder, thankfully.
      I also don’t like gimmicky tom mounts that do everything imaginable to touch the tom as little as possible. Just put a mount on the shell & be done with it. I know drum companies are always trying to come up with new & interesting hardware, but I really don’t think the resonance is effected enough to be noticeable. If you’re in a studio & you want the maximum amount of res possible, you can rig something up. But otherwise I find it all a bit silly. Same with 18 & 20” deep bass drums. Just, no.

    • @michaelanderson2881
      @michaelanderson2881 4 года назад

      This looks very much like a purpose-built dual stand for tom and cymbal, as opposed to a cymbal stand with a clamp on it. Take a look at the kit from the side views such as at 00:14. In fact it looks more like the cymbal is hanging off the tom stand, if you want to look at it that way.

    What happened to sticking to the Gretsch tradition? Who decided that the standard bass drum size is now 22"x18"? That extra long size never existed years ago. Now all drummers have to schlep around a giant barrell. Makes no sense...

    • @brendancooke8364
      @brendancooke8364 8 лет назад

      +Had Enough I guess to stay hip with the new trend of deeper bass drums, but for things like gigging a shallower drum would reign supreme, because its more portable, while maintaining a punchy warm tone.

    • @HadEnough745
      @HadEnough745 8 лет назад +4

      +Brendan Cooke I laugh when they say Gretsch is so traditional yet they want you to buy this extra deep bass drum. Who's the fool loading it in and out of the car if you're a working drummer? The consumer. Many rock recordings from the 1970's have 14" deep kick drums on the recordings. I still don't know why it is considered hip or cool to have an elongated bass drum. I don't even think it looks good. 16" deep at the most is OK if you ask me. RIngo, Bonham, Rich, etc..all had 14" deep bass drums. Now it is cool to play a 18" or 20" deep kick. If anything it delays the rebound of the beater on the head of the kick.

    • @brendancooke8364
      @brendancooke8364 8 лет назад +1

      Maybe it yields a deeper tone? I'm not sure either, but I'd rather carry a 24x14 bass drum than a 24x20. But I suppose there must be a sonic difference to influence this design change

      +Brendan Cooke I've had both. The deeper drums lower the fundamental, but sacrifice punch and definition. No different than deep power toms vs standard size toms.

    I wish Gretsch would get away from the gray paint/sealed inside the drums. I know that they say it contributes to their sound. Maybe that's true or not. To me it's just a way to be able to hide possible visual imperfections on the interior of the drum. I remember when Ludwig use to paint the interiors white. It just seems like a cheap alternative to properly finishing the interior. Not trying to nit pick here, I think their drums are great in sound, looks and build quality. The grey sealer to me just seems passé.
