Hi Andy. I got a set of the Vallejo metal paints about 2 months ago and really like them. I built a 1/48 English Electric Lightning from Airfix recently and used a few of the colours to give it a BMF. I would say its on par with Alclad 2 paints but without the smell, toxicity and cleanup of lacquer paints and easier to use. Well done, Vallejo. As you say, it takes a bit of practice to get used to how best to use them but once mastered the finish you get is excellent. The key to achieving good results with any metal finish is making sure the surface is spotlessly clean and free from dust and silky smooth so thorough preparation is vital. Any slight flaws in the surface at this stage will be magnified 100% by the metal colours. I always lightly sand the primer coat with 6,000, 8,000 and 12,000 grit then wipe lightly with IPA before applying the metals with very light, misty layers.
VMC are just fantastic. Pre-thinned to perfection, fantastic coverage, and cleanup is very easy. The best metallics on the market IMHO.
In the last couple of years, I've restarted model making after a 40 year hiatus. All my old Tamiya acrylic bottles had dried up, so I got a huge collection each of Vallejo Model Air (no need to thin, put them straight into your airbrush cup and go) and Model Color. Vallejo do them in presentation cases, so I'm not likely to mislay any.
But, although I like Alclad II, I don't like the fumes, even with the extractor in my airbrush booth on. So I was interested to see Vallejo's Metal Color, and they are in my opinion great for metal details, although I think I would still use Alclad for bare-metal aircraft models. But I do have a complete set.
Even in constructing the fence, you put the lower two slats together, a very realistic detail! The weathering was spot on! How would you make a faded whitewash and some moss thrown in for added realism!
Great job,
From another Andy!
Andy; congratulations and best wishes..!!! You are bringing new product reviews almost daily and increasing
the power of learning the great plastic modeling hobby, through your free modeling video tutorials..!!
On my last visit to your store, I noticed also; a wide variety of new products I had not seen before, and the prices
you offer are beating ordering stuff online by far..!!! Besides, visiting your store; for me personally; is like a
walk through Disneyland....! sometimes I feel I'm just actually "loitering around"; but you have the greatest store
"this side of the Great Divide"...best wishes on future endeavors...!!
I have been using those Vallejo Metal paints for almost a year now. LOVE THEM! I don't always use a black primer either. They are fantastic paints!!! They cover real well with a hair brush too! I use Future Floor Wax for the clear...works great! They are the best metal paint next to Alclad. Great video Andy! Thanks very much. I really look forward to the next one.
thanks for watching
Andy, Another Cool How-To video. I use only Vallejo paints . This video comes just in time as I want the best wood effects on my Railcars and Opel Blitz.. Thanks again, I learn something new from your vids.
Hi andy, nice tips thx for sharing this, I’ll try this for sure 👍🏻
Andy, Greetings from Australia. Could you please do a video on airbrusing- your tips, techniques, pressures, practices, CLEANING STYLE, etc. Love the channel. Keep them coming.
Great review Andy, I recently received the two Vallejo Wood sets for my 50th Birthday; they are really great and produce very realistic results. I am looking forward to more of these videos teaching us how to use some products as well as showcasing the products available. many thanks for sharing and of course have fun Andy,
Joe
That's great , thanks for watching.
Hi Andy,
you have produced another great tutorial, I am using Vallejo on my kits at the moment and find it a great paint to use. Can't you give just a little hint on what you intend to be your next build video? Either way I look forward to seeing it.
Cheers,
Les
it might be a very large scale u-boat with a full interior. I want to see it first
Les Thiele
Love this tutorial Andy! It will be very helpful for many people including me. Thanks for the help and keep it up! :)

The Vallejo Metal color, while pre-thinned for airbrushing, works well out of the bottle using a regular paint brush as well!
Really good demonstration, they turned out really well, especially the metals :)
thanks for watching
Greetings from Australia, Andy! I follow your videos very closely and find them very useful and informative as well as inspirational. Keep up the great work!

To protect it from, dew, dust, sun rays. eyc, etc, etc.

I am building a lift truck with brass. Now I wonder what color of that metal series do you recommend for the piston coming out of the cylinder?
very helpful vid, thankyou.
thanks for posting this nice video!is this the end of the tamiya paint?
No I will still be using them too
Buen video Andy
good video. 💛
Did we must use an airbrush for use the metal color?
I love tutorials!
thanks for watching
Heh. There's no substitute for old fashioned good quality oil paints (and chalk pastels). Requires patience. :p
great video Andy
thanks for watching
do you, when you paint, leave the accessories and tools on, then use a hand brush to paint them?
If you save enough money I want you to make this a chain company. Not all over the u.s but near your area I really want people to enjoy your awesome store and what you do for them.
that would be great
I am so. Sick. Of seeing people on youtube doing how to paint videos and only using an airbrush. What about those (like myself) who don't use an airbrush because we can't afford it or aren't confident to use it? I'm not bashing the channel because this channel does an amazing job with their builds and guides, i just want to see people doing brush guides, i haven't seen any at all that don't use an airbrush.
true
Can this product be used to weather plastic buildings?
Troppo bravo! :-)
Airbrush ready paint is usable on normal brushes? i can't have an airbrush (i have a extremelly small workspace)
Yes it will work
ANDY CAN YOU TELL ME THE BEST WAY TO MAKE 1/35 BARBWIRE THANKS JOHN
I encounter discolouration when using Humbro, Tamiya and Citadale metal paints. Usually when its freshly open the metal colours looks bright and shinny but after a year or 2 the colour becomes dull and changes like shinny gold becomes more like bronze. I tried stirring and even added some gloss but its still the same. Does Vallejo metal paints do that too?
this is my first time using it , but not yet has it
Andy's Hobby Headquarters Np will get a bottle and see if it happens in 1 year or so. Thanks.
Do the vallejo metal require thinner?
When spraying the Vallejo model air, what psi were you using? Does is spray like Tamiya does?
I still used 22 psi and it was very similar to Tamiya, maybe a little thicker
Thank you. What size needle are you using?
What kind of airbrush are you using and what is the needle and cap size?
Iwata hpc with .35 tip
Andy's Hobby Headquarters awesome thank you. That is the exact same one I have. It is my first airbrush and im trying to learn as much as possible. I have been watching all of your videos and they have been a big help. Thank you again
what tamia paint that you use for russian armor?
I used a mix of olive green and dark green
Andy's Hobby Headquarters okay thanks andy!
looks realy realistic wel done
thank you for watching
to be honest it looked best at 6:47.
Do you have an amazon or eBay storefront? I'm sure your appreciative viewers would like to support you by buying from you.
Maybe, just MAYBE turn off the FAN when you make a VIDEO! XD
👍
do you know how to make german gray with tamiya paint?
Tamiya sells German Gray color separately.
do you have a website?
you have to purchase like 20 can of paint to do this :(
good but not enough!
This guy obviously isn't a Pro spray painter ! you Never spray paint from a gun or Airbrush the way he is doing . Hopefully He is just
Practicing for some "Modern art " class or something ? But any way , thanks for the Video
