Great tutorial Jun, I build rust model cars and I am currently working on a 1955 chevy truck check the. Video out when you get a chance, and I always struggle weathering JDM cars, and your how to is perfect, I will use this on my next JDM. But I won't do a AE86😂
When I did my first car model, I didn't do a very good job. It was a stock lancer evo 6, from tamiya. So I remade it into a stance car, but I didn't do a very good job this time either. Since it already looked crap from all this remodeling, this time I've made it into a makeshift drag car. The point was to make it look like it was made with whatever was at hand at your own backyard and not really taken care of. Lots of custom parts made of whatever I had laying around. I have to say, it was way less stressful than trying to make it look perfect in every aspect Now, i am finally satisfied how it looks
14:52. Well who needs a girlfriend when your out here making us happy and showing what's really possible with these model cars. Also thanks for the tips I will try to try these in the future as you inspire me to do so.
That's awesome Jun, thanks for taking the time to put up this video for us all to learn. Those are some fantastic tips and tricks that you've shared with us and I'm looking forward to try some of them, especially when it comes to making the chassis more realistic. Once again, Thank You and well done.
This is awesome! Thank you for the tips to make models more realistic. Love your dioramas and 'a clean car gets you the trophy, but a dirty car tells the story'. Great craftsmanship! 😊
Love your videos. I’m getting a skyline gtr r32 next month. It’s been parked in a shed for 15 years and it needs a lot of work. Thinking about doing a replica of its current condition in a 1/24 scale. This will definitely help out lol
Thanks for doing this video. I have just started building models and i have a race day truck to paint so you have gave my some good ideas to make it look race worn not new looking thanks again
Great video! I love making American trucks so weathering is a must. Also when are you gunna finish the putting together your first scale model video series?
Very good tips. I have used cheap craft paints in different tones of red, brown and orange to simulate rust. Another tip is to use superglue and baking soda arround rusted holes and big rust spots to simulate a crusty rust before applying the rust paint. Thanks for your great videos.
Hey there jun! i just finished my first model car, to say. It isnt the best, considering i messed up the primer back then which made it have tons of deep scratches. As well as the windows being foggy😭, although it could be worse. Im still proud, thanks for teaching me and inspiring me. Although my wallet gave up after spending so much on paint...
Nice overall look at weathering techniques! Thanks Jun! I may use some of these when I finally decide to make a model car. Or should I get the guts to find myself a girlfriend instead? 🤔 I'll most likely overthink it and procrastinate till the end of times... =,)
Great tutorial man. I've learnt some new techniques thanks to you. It will be very helpful to make diorama with abandoned car. By the way, can you explain more about this trick with the steel wool and vinegar. I am soaking for over a week steel wool in a jar filled with spirit vinegar and so far no rust.
It’s been a while since I made the homemade rust solution but I remember keeping the lid off the jar and left it at a corner for about a few days or so before I could see any rust. I used white vinegar so I am not sure if it helped or not. It will eventually rust out if you give it more time. I heard that if you cut the steel wool in smaller pieces and wash them in lacquer thinner beforehand it will work faster.
I have a question anyone can help with! I have a model Hummer H1 1/27, and i want to modify it, but i can't find the right size of wheels and tires. I was looking for off-road tyers 35mm /15mm or something like that any one know which types of wheels and tires are compatible with this model? Thanks
You can probably print a set of off road wheels from Cults3d if you have a 3D printer, just need to scale it down in the slicer to fit your 1/27 scale model.(sometimes the designers will be able to help you with that, too.)
@JunsMiniGarage thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3D printer. That's why I asked if there are compatible wheels and tires. :( It does mean I can't modify it unless I find a compatible one. I think there are no compatible accessories for Hummer H1 in all sizes except 1/64 because I couldn't find any one had modified a model before.
Well. I always weather the chassis of my models, even if the body is kept in "brand new" look. I just don't like the clean look on 30 year old chassis XD
00:33 Panel line accent colors & washes
02:54 Oil leaks & exhaust soot
04:24 Chassis
06:28 Paint chips & scratches
08:40 Dents & Dings
10:28 Rust
12:53 Dust
14:10 Tamiya Weathering Master
The broken cars feels more realistic and the rust and ugly colours did well, love he modification❤❤❤

Such a good video! I wonder if you'll continue the beginner series?

When you dark wash over light paint, are you also using a thinner while dabbing the sponge to remove the wash?
Yes, the sponge was usually soak in thinner.
That girlfriend bit was hilarious
Really wish there was a way to add dust without an airbrush. Its all im needing to finish my abandoned 70 1/2 camaro.
