Anytime the brake pedal is pressed while the engine is engaged to the transmission and the car has momentum, fuel consumption rises even for that brief period, because braking while the transmission is engaged means applying additional resistive load on the engine. If you are conscious of optimising fuel economy, you should first apply clutch to disengage transmission ( the vehicle will still have momentum ) before applying even a gentle brake for the purposes of slowing down. With the practice I have described, a manual transmission car could have a better fuel economy than an automatic car.
Am on my day 11 driving a manual car, my instructor isn't clear when it comes to explaining, always shouting but with you am able to understand fully! This was my problem and Monday I will show him how much I have understood you here. Thanks Sir!!
I had been driving an automatic for more than 30 years. Now at age 66 we now have a manual car. My husband is teaching but I needed something else to reinforce and understand. I watched several videos, some gave conflicting information which frustrated me, reducing my confidence.. This brother is a superb teacher. I will stick with this channel on my journey to learn this new skill.
This dad is such a darling 🥰🥰🥰 I like his teachings I wish to talk to him I have been following him all day long before I went to the driving school and i passed my test at once Thanks dad
This is a great topic. As lots of learner drivers said, they press the brake and clutch together which will give a jerky movement when you stop. I did this many times with my instructor before and he never had corrected me until I complained. Basically he left me to make the same mistakes until I complained. He picked up my faults but not corrected. What's the having a point to have a lesson with a professional instructor? Terrible!! I was so frustrated and upset about his attitude. I should have watched this video earlier.
Same thing with me, my instructor never corrects me, he just gives me order without explaining why and which i end up forgetting anyway! So frustrating!
I like his explanations. I m Starting learning driving the manual car but I learn s lot from this man even better than the one teaching me how to drive. This man is a professional.
I’ve seen tons of how-to videos for driving manual and none of them ever cover slowing down and/or stopping; they only ever show shifting. Glad this video exists! Thank you.
Thank you Sir, My struggle is over, I understand very well...My instructor never taught me the way you do. God will make a way for you... You are a blessing to many of us.
Just had a driving lesson, spent an hour trying to slow and stop but as my instructor didn't explain reasons behind using each pedal i was none the wiser. Thankyou you explained things perfectly.
I've been doing it the wrong way, clutch in first and then breaks. Thank you very much for this video, even today my instructor failed to explain it to me the way you did.
firstly I want say, " thank you for your time to make this video. l also put clutch first whenever I want to stop the car..but now I learn from you. well done
Thank you so much brother for explaining it in a simple way. Today was my 2nd day driving class n i was told to press cluth first n then brake.. I did it as per instruction but did not understand the use of clutch and brake..my instructor did not explain it. Thank Allah I came across ur video. May Allah bless u
Very educational piece...I normally do clutch before break and the engine goes off anytime I come to a stop and wants to move... in all A big thanks because I followed your tutorials which helped me move my manual car...bless you
I have been so confused on which to hit first. I thank you good Sir for your video. Your explanation is so clear and easy to follow. Can't thank you enough
My instructor teach differently, he said to slow down the car, one had to clutch down first with d right leg close to d brake. thanks for this video is really helpful.
Lent out my automatic to a friend driving to another state and I have their manual. I am 55 and haven’t driven a manual since 17!!!! Thanks for the much needed info!!!!
So lucid, so clear is bhaisaab's instruction ! Thank you sir, thank you a thousand times. Learning to drive at 62 is not exactly a cakewalk for me. But lesson like this makes me way more confident
All your videos are fantastic! You have such a easy and logical way of explaining things. I’ve learnt a lot from your videos, please continue making more. Thanks for your efforts!
You are the best teacher, have understand driving from your videos. Have learnt alot from you. Thank you for using simple language which we can understand.
I asked my instructor after watching this video, and he explained to me that when the car is in the first gear and you are in traffic you need to press the clutch first fully and than the break, otherwise the car will stall. When you are in 2nd gear and above break first and then clutch.
True because gear one and two are the highest and they're always active when the car is moving very slowly and therefore there's no time between slowing down first and then engage clutch at last.thank you.
Yep, this also sounds well. Because when the care is in 1 gear, the break automatically stops switches off the engine. Making the care to stumble. Thanks.
Sir I'm so grateful I came across your videos you make driving easy and not a complicated scary thing you're a very good teacher and you make it simple for anyone to understand.
Good explanation. With the jobs of the brake and clutch pedals understood, it is easy to apply them in driving. While slowing down momentarily without an intention to stop the car, it is okay to just use the brake pedal and then let go off it without needing the clutch at all. However, to avoid faster wear and tear of your car's braking system, when you really intend to stop your vehicle, it's okay to hold down the clutch pedal while simultaneously applying the brake pedal until the car comes to a stop. Holding down the brake pedal until the car is near stopping before using the clutch pedal just to keep the engine running will give the brake more work, as it would be contending with the force exerted on the wheels by the car's running engine until late, which could be avoided. In another sense, for more economical driving, you may only be needing the brake pedal if you have to stop or in an emergency situation. A driver can increase and lower speed quite easily using the engine's speed and gear. Mastering the road ahead and knowing when to accelerate and decelerate matter a lot in driving. Excessive use of brakes increase wear and tear and increase your car's fuel consumption.
I think what he said can well apply in highways, and definitely not im bumber to bumber city traffic, like you are on second gear and @10 kms, if you brake first, what will happen?
Am attending a driving class currently but I haven't learned what am learning here, nd the driving instructor is so hash he doesn't even take time to teach you what you need to know, this video will even help me more than were I paid for
The clutch is to keep the engine running, hence I don't need it to slow down the car. While the break is slow down, stop or give a signal to others cars behind. So if I need to stop the car, I brake brake brake and then clutch down to keep the engine steaming. Huh? Right. Thanks a lot man. I love your teachings well understood.
Thank you sir for your videos 👊👌✨. I didn't need anyone to sit with me in the car and teach me, I only learnt it from those videos. Now I can drive as I'm still in the process of learning it. 🙌
I’ll must say you’re one of the best instructor I wish I learn with you just started my driving lesson it was last week but keep following you nd learning when I want to clear my points nd you know your are the best highly recommended May Allah give you more more success nd you convey your knowledge to others my prayers with you once again thank you so much 😊
This is very helpful I really appreciate you for what you’re doing, explanations is awesome as it helps me with my theory test as well. And now I’m taking my driving lessons so thank you so much.
In the streets, cars move in third gear, but their distance is less than the limit. In these common situations, some drivers press both pedals together because they don't have enough time to brake first and then clutch. What's the best method in this situation?
I stalled a few times as a learner but got hang of it obviously 😊. Wish I had these videos when i started learning. I had a wonderful instructor very patient but some things i need to refresh hence a few refreshers Thank you for these videos
May Allah keep continue blessing to you and your family brother. I have passed my driving test yesterday. I have learn much more from you than to my driving school. Eventhough, I have passed I have plan to keep watching and learning everyday from you. May Allah accept your work as Sadaka. I did not you but I have learn everything about driving not just to pass exam but also to become safe driver. Wish your best in here and here after.
AMEEN! Congratulations Sharmin. You did the hard work and you deserve it. Thank you for supporting my channel and may ALLAH give you all the good things in life…AMEEN!
Just found your channel I am 64 I used to drive my manuals with both clutch and brake to stop you are very good at teaching I wish you could of taught me back in the day I guess we are never too old to learn new viewer MikePierce Lexington Kentucky
Your instructor is wrong. His daily driver car is probably an automatic because he had been clutching first, and fried lots of clutches. That common bad habit will keep your local clutch and transmission shop smiling. They love the business.
Excellent lesson on when to brake and clutch. I have a video on this as well. "How To Drive a 6 Speed Like a Pro". It is on Stern Drive with Doug Stern. Your training is exactly what new drivers need to know.
😅what! What sort of driving teacher are you?! You're just too explicit. Honestly, I've never had this clearly explained to me as this. God bless you man.
Thank you for this explanation. The Instructore who couch me on manual say that if the car is on a high speed, i can reduce the speed by clutching down and then before marching the break. With this your beautiful explanation, am good to go.
This man explains very well better than driving school because I am learning from driver school but this man give idea better than driving school thank you Portugal
I drove an automatic car for 10yrs now moved to england I discover most of the cars here are manual🤯🤯 when i did lessons and passed my drivers licence i was using a manual so at least that gives me confidence that i can do it. Theres no clutch in an automatic car so every time i hear clutch my mind literally shuts down. But finally you have given a simple and clear explanation and boosted my confidence👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I'll be getting a new car in the next couple of weeks really looking forward to driving again. 😊😊 thank you for the great video lessons

Brake down and just before the car stops you put the clutch down. Very well explained in a very simple and easy way to understand!
Glad it helped!
Correct there,
Yeah, I agree
Anytime the brake pedal is pressed while the engine is engaged to the transmission and the car has momentum, fuel consumption rises even for that brief period, because braking while the transmission is engaged means applying additional resistive load on the engine. My instructor says always press clutch first than break 😧
That is excactly what most instructors in my country say. And the drivers there normally cause accidents as rhey tend to lose control of the car
Your instructor is wrong. His daily driver car is probably an automatic because he had been clutching first, and fried lots of clutches. That common bad habit will keep your local clutch and transmission shop smiling. They love the business.
There is a teaching gift in this man. Very excellent in explaining.
