      Anytime the brake pedal is pressed while the engine is engaged to the transmission and the car has momentum, fuel consumption rises even for that brief period, because braking while the transmission is engaged means applying additional resistive load on the engine. If you are conscious of optimising fuel economy, you should first apply clutch to disengage transmission ( the vehicle will still have momentum ) before applying even a gentle brake for the purposes of slowing down. With the practice I have described, a manual transmission car could have a better fuel economy than an automatic car.

    I had been driving an automatic for more than 30 years. Now at age 66 we now have a manual car. My husband is teaching but I needed something else to reinforce and understand. I watched several videos, some gave conflicting information which frustrated me, reducing my confidence.. This brother is a superb teacher. I will stick with this channel on my journey to learn this new skill.

    This is a great topic. As lots of learner drivers said, they press the brake and clutch together which will give a jerky movement when you stop. I did this many times with my instructor before and he never had corrected me until I complained. Basically he left me to make the same mistakes until I complained. He picked up my faults but not corrected. What's the having a point to have a lesson with a professional instructor? Terrible!! I was so frustrated and upset about his attitude. I should have watched this video earlier.

  • @kennethnwokocha6460
    @kennethnwokocha6460 Год назад +8

    Good explanation. With the jobs of the brake and clutch pedals understood, it is easy to apply them in driving. While slowing down momentarily without an intention to stop the car, it is okay to just use the brake pedal and then let go off it without needing the clutch at all. However, to avoid faster wear and tear of your car's braking system, when you really intend to stop your vehicle, it's okay to hold down the clutch pedal while simultaneously applying the brake pedal until the car comes to a stop. Holding down the brake pedal until the car is near stopping before using the clutch pedal just to keep the engine running will give the brake more work, as it would be contending with the force exerted on the wheels by the car's running engine until late, which could be avoided.
    In another sense, for more economical driving, you may only be needing the brake pedal if you have to stop or in an emergency situation. A driver can increase and lower speed quite easily using the engine's speed and gear. Mastering the road ahead and knowing when to accelerate and decelerate matter a lot in driving. Excessive use of brakes increase wear and tear and increase your car's fuel consumption.

    The clutch is to keep the engine running, hence I don't need it to slow down the car. While the break is slow down, stop or give a signal to others cars behind. So if I need to stop the car, I brake brake brake and then clutch down to keep the engine steaming. Huh? Right. Thanks a lot man. I love your teachings well understood.

    In the streets, cars move in third gear, but their distance is less than the limit. In these common situations, some drivers press both pedals together because they don't have enough time to brake first and then clutch. What's the best method in this situation?

      That is excactly what most instructors in my country say. And the drivers there normally cause accidents as rhey tend to lose control of the car

    • @SternDrive

      Your instructor is wrong. His daily driver car is probably an automatic because he had been clutching first, and fried lots of clutches. That common bad habit will keep your local clutch and transmission shop smiling. They love the business.

    Thank you for this explanation. The Instructore who couch me on manual say that if the car is on a high speed, i can reduce the speed by clutching down and then before marching the break. With this your beautiful explanation, am good to go.

    I drove an automatic car for 10yrs now moved to england I discover most of the cars here are manual🤯🤯 when i did lessons and passed my drivers licence i was using a manual so at least that gives me confidence that i can do it. Theres no clutch in an automatic car so every time i hear clutch my mind literally shuts down. But finally you have given a simple and clear explanation and boosted my confidence👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I'll be getting a new car in the next couple of weeks really looking forward to driving again. 😊😊 thank you for the great video lessons
