Hi Chris! I just passed my test today first time and your videos are a huge reason why I was able to do this. Especially the show me tell me questions! My driving instructor was good but he could stress me out sometimes, so I would associate certain manoeuvres with feeling stressed. Whereas you seem so calm and explain things so well! Thanks so much
I don't know what am I doing here cuz I have been driving manual from day one till present for more than 10 years now and still watching this video LOL!
Thank you for this video. "The gas keeps the car from stalling but doesn't affect the speed." This is the golden sentence for me transitioning from AT to MT. Especially starting on hill.
Thank you for this video. I have driven manual transmission cars before (not very experienced though, always used others' cars). And for last one year I've been using my dad's automatic transmission one and had gotten used to it. Yesterday i had to drive a manual one again and was worried if I'd be able to pick up clutch control and smooth gear transition after one year of automatic. This video really helped me to transition back to manual transmission without major hiccups. ❤
this video is great, I have my driving lessons in a diesel but I bought a car for my own that's a petrol. sometimes i still struggle with moving off because i've been thought to clutch then gas in the diesel car. With my own car it almost always makes me stall. i try to get used to pressing the gas first but i really struggle when its a hill or even a small incline cause in belgium they apparently don't teach you to do hill starts with your handbrake but only with your foot brake.
My driving instructor seems to have missed the whole biting point completely, 3 lessons in, I'm still not entirely sure how to start correctly. This helped a lot, another lesson in 5 mins, I'll give it a try
I just got a new clutch installed today and the clutch is crazy sensitive from what I was used to. My old clutch was really worn and had around 100k miles before it was replaced today. I stalled twice during traffic. I hope that I’ll get a lot better soon and quick because I’m going to have to drive it to school from now on.
Finding the biting point quick is my problem! Not used to a high biting point as I’ve been learning with a lower one! I’ve stalled my car a few times cause of this 😭😂 think with a bit of practice I’ll be fine though
What a great video!!! Thank you. I have had my Peugeot 108 for about 2 months now and I have trouble with getting the biting point right, the car would just go fast like you have mentioned so I keep plenty of space from the vehicles that be in front of me so I don't go into the back of them. I need to take my time and not rush but the tips here are helpful especially the 3 second time you mentioned. Thanks again :) !
Hey! I’ve just passed my test and have the exact same car! 😂 it has a really high biting point on it does yours? I’m used to having a low one as my learner car was low. I’m stalling it sometimes when pulling of pretty sure it’s something to do with the clutch hahaha
I just came across your channel today and I really love watching your content and everytime I listen to what you are saying, there's only person that comes to my mind-Jos Buttler. Don't know why? But I just love the british accent.
Men my instructor told me to clutch and break peddle, kinda difficult for beginning I was always stalling but this is very easy and manageable. Thanks a lot.
For begginers i recommend clutch to the bitting point firdt then add gas why? Because when your just starting to leard to drive manual it is very hard to add gas first just like me. As begginer you most likely over rev the engine and fir sure in uphill you'll always move backward before going forward because you're still familiarizing the clutch bitting point. When ifirst starting to leard how to drive i gave up on gas first then chise cluth to the bitting point then gas, it's easier even in uphill no stalling for me, but months later in driving when my clutch control is improved i noticed i can do gas first because i gained muscle memory on my clutch. So for begginers i recommend clutch first that way you will not stall at the same time familiaring your clutch in the process.. I din't say clutch firts is better gas first is better that way you can drive all manual trransmission without stalling, but if driving your own car its better clutch first, gas first will come naturally in time.
I'm learning to drive in a manual, and I've been told to just use the clutch and the brake, when slow. It works an absolute wonder, and super easy to do as well. It's the same for reversing as well, as it's fast enough, at it's maximum speed and lowest when low (everything in 1st gear of course). So many people don't realise they can do this, and honestly so comfortable to do! Another cracking video 👏
Great video ive been learning to drive and ive been using the clutch alot more than i probably should good to know about setting the gas and not riding the clutch, also 5:28 good to know wondered my instructor taught me to keep my heel on the floor. Very informative and well explained.

One thing that I do for moving the car without using the gas pedal is to just let the half clutch alone make the car move. If you can hold and release the clutch correctly, the you'd see that just by using the biting point and no gas pedal can make the car move about 5mph without the engine stalling. Another thing is, lets say you're on a flat empty long road, then by just using the half clutch to hold the biting point without stepping on the gas pedal, your car will keep moving at a constant speed. Then by shifting the gear to a higher gear and holding the biting point without the gas pedal again will make your car go at a faster constant speed. It's pretty cool.
@@worlddriving Well, the car would gain enough moment in about a few seconds after holding the biting point, to the point where you can release the clutch fully and it will keep going on a constant pace without any engine stutter.
Maybe you are like me in that you are shy on the gas pedal? I think I'm afraid of hearing the grumble of the engine. I'm watching this video 14 months after passing my test and being on the road almost every day, becoming aware my driving is getting worse 🙈 so my advice to you, don't worry about what anyone else thinks they're too busy with their own business 😅 keep at it you'll get there! Plus when you get your licence that's it for life! unless you commit a crime or something 😬
Just remember it’s not the gas pedal that’s stopping you from moving off, it’s the clutch so bring that a little higher and the car should move off smoothly.
Yo, I did not know the clutch controls speed under 5mph! This helps so much on junctions that I just need to slow down on, and not stop. As I found using the break and clutch so hard I didn’t know I could effectively use the clutch like a break, I did on a tight turn going to a blind turn give way line as I noticed the car slowed down, at a slow speed, when the clutch was going down more hmmmm interesting!
Hi Chris, Thanks for making this video. Most of the drivers, may not know this specific detail about the ' biting point'. Including myself. You have taken taken the effort to explain also the function of the biting point. Very few driving schools will mention this detail. . What happens in the case of automatic transmission, as there is no clutch. Is there any alternate ?
UK is one of the few places in the world where you can still get a manual car, everyone else consigns this skill to the same scrap heap as putting a saddle on a horse

Beautiful explanation bud.
Thank you very much.
Taking my nephew out and teaching him how to drive stick. This is a perfect teaching tool, thank you
