What do you need to start drawing and learn art and illustration? Just paper and pencil. We're not going to get to fancy in this first class. We will start with the very basics about how everything we are going to draw is made up of simple shapes. 2D shapes like squares, circles and triangles and also 3d shapes like spheres, cylinders, cubes and cones.

My favorite thing is how this is aimed at children because that's literally my skill level right now
me and you both
My 8 year old nephew is better then me at drawing
Same here. I sucked so bad at even the basic stuff. 😅 but with practice we will get better!
Ditto
bruh I've been trying to get better at drawing for years now and my art still looks like a 3 year olds
Ok so, I'm 17 years old, I've always wanted to draw, but it always seemed like one of those things that seem really abstract and descriptivist, and my learning style is very prescriptive, so I figured that there's basically no way for me to learn how to draw. But today I decided to learn how to draw, and I have to say that Brad has done a phenomenal job. I'll definitely be following the second episode, wanting to learn more.
how are u doing now?
from a person who is beginning now.
I'm also 17
Actually am not a digital artist
Am more of a sketching artist
🙂
Lmao that’s me down to the detail
I'm 16 but I was good at drawing 5 years ago but I quit
but I decided today to practice drawing again and my drawing is not as good as it was
but that made me figure that practicing is wait to make you a good drawer
so ... how it's going with you now :) ????

Why is his channel not verified!!?
This isn't a drawing lesson. It's a complete perfect animation cartoon movie. I'm loving every second of it.
As someone in her early 30s who attempted to draw at the (impatient) age of 13 but gave up, I'm so glad I found your channel! This is literally the instruction younger and current me needed but didn't have access to. With just your explanation on how shapes make up everything, I can look back at art pieces I like and visually *see* those shapes. Officially subscribed with notifications turned on. My goal of one day illustrating my own stories is officially in reach!

For anyone wondering if these basic lessons are beneficial, they really are. Studied architecture at college. Our drafting class started with these very basic shapes before we were given assignments to draw entire houses. Mastering those fundamentals are absolutely critical.
Great job Brad, I’d love to see these go very far. Wishing for the best bro!
They definitely are, everytime I search "how to draw for beginners" every video assume I can draw a sketch, a perfect circle, a straight line, etc.
Finally I've found a video for REAL beginners
Can I ask if u r an architect now 😅and how was learning architecture.
Lol my dad is a architect but he he isn't really that good at drawing. And it's not really that big of a impact since there is architectural software but whenever he needs a rough sketch he just asks me
Go to 2:50 and there is squid game
The same goes for me I had to learn this before they let me technical drawings in cad.
I love how he put humor in the vid and didn’t make a boring video. This makes learning so fun
Please keep these coming!! The way you teach really works for me. I’m 42 and have always had the mindset that I could never draw. You’ve changed that and have opened my eyes to a lot more than just drawing.
Thank you. I can't imagine the amount of effort and time you put into this video
Exactly
It took a long time, but a big part of that was making a ton of assets and a workflow that would let me make these a lot faster in the future. Still going to be slower than other videos, but should be able to do one or two a month.

The change from cartoon to live-action examples is deeply nostalgic. This is so helpful and definitely the most charming drawing resource I've every seen. Thank you.

I’m 35 and looking at re learning skills I had 20 years ago, when as a teenager I used to be able to sketch anyones profile out realistically. As a kid I loved art from 4-5 yo and got quite good at it - life happened and I lost the hand control for fine drawing, I never lost the way to look at things the way an artist does - but certainly the fine skills of drawing and in painting mixing colours etc So much to learn and videos like these that are aimed at children are perfect in brushing up on the basics or forgotten techniques. Congrats to all the adults that have taken up art again - I feel I need this to complete me spiritually an artistic soul needs to do art needs that creative outlet.
27 years old learning for first time. This was great! 😄
This is amazing and exactly the type of drawing course someone like me needs. Please please please do not give up on this, I feel like I struck gold. I genuinely appreciate you for putting in the time and effort into making something like this, I know it couldn't have been easy but hopefully these comments could convince you the work was well worth the effort.

It's educational and entertaining, I see it is a little bit catered to younger audiences, but I still learned and blew from my nose once or twice.
I never expect that i will be watching this tutorial at the age of 23 to start learn drawing..😂😂😂 maybe a bit late but im motivate after reading many manhwa.. Maybe next month i will retire if i still don't graduate from this video tutorial 😂
How lucky you're, I'm watching this at the age of 26 to start learn drawing🤣🤣 keep fighting brother, I can wait to see you art
I'm 18, I love writing but I've always been jealous of artists. My friend made me fanart two years ago, then another last week, and I've always wanted to make art for her stories too but never been confident in my skills. I realized that if I started practicing two years ago, I'd probably be able to make something decent now. I'm going to start so in a few years I'll look back and be thankful I did! Hopefully the next time my friend sends me art, I can send some back :)
5 month update: I've been practicing with drawing angled heads and faces between classes, so I made art of my friend's character and she really liked it! I definitely can't draw the rest of the anatomy yet, but I'm proud of my progress and I'm going to keep at it :)
Make sure to update! Can’t wait!
I’ve been dying to add real art fundamental learning in my nieces homeschooling but most RUclips channels are mature or aimed at an adult vocabulary understanding and this is perfect!! I've always been frustrated with trying to draw or do any kind of art and feeling hopeless . So many instructional books or vidoes I find assume people know these basic things so it's really nice to find this series that is informative and funny and keeps me engaged, when I'm an adult. Omg i really think this art series is going to be a masterpiece on youtube. Thank you for doing this for free🤩🤩🤩
Im so glad that i have learned english so i could understand what people like you are trying to say (Im still looking forward in learning it more). Im 16 years old that thought i couldnt ever draw cus most of "tutorials for beginners" are complicated as f***. But you on other hand made it entertaining and educational AND because of that i gained a hope that i can learn how to draw. Thank you alot Brad, i really appreciate your effort into these series (if i made some mistakes in sentences im sorry, im Russian so its kind of hard to express feelings on other language)
This is the first time in my life I've felt like I have the ability to learn how to draw. And I had fun! So many youtube art tutorials have left me feeling depleted as the teacher tells me I just have to "feel it". Thank you for this, wish it had been around years ago! Also your pacing and video editing are super, as is your writing.
Those teachers are so wrong! I too, had teachers that had no idea. I've encountered many, "Just draw it", "If you need to learn it then you are many not meant for it" and even as far as " drawing can't really be taught". They are all wrong! I eventually found the right school and right method, learned it in 1 year, got pretty good at it after 2 years. Now I can use the drawing skill freely in the process of my art creation. You can learn it of you want it!
Dang your channel needs more recognition this series is so good
Hi! I just want to say thank you so much for doing these, you don't know how long I've been hunting for some kind of introduction to drawing just like this! I've always wanted to learn how to draw, but never really knew where to start and these fundamentals are so helpful in doing just that.
Left handed learner here, Drawing has always been a dream of mine and I wanted to learn how to draw, hopefully Brad can teach me

Absolutely love this. Such a brilliant way to teach. My children love it too
I love this so much!! It's entertaining and I feel like I learn actually a lot from it
Finally, someone who really means BEGINNER. I've been scouring the internet looking for something like this. I have no idea how to draw and all the other videos I found scared me off when they brought up subjects like 'line art', 'color theory', etc. I'm really happy I found something simple.

This is awesome! I was searching on how to teach my kid a basic drawing lesson and I found this. This is gold! Thanks, Sir, Brad! Great video.
Thank you SO much for this, I love it! I've always wanted to learn more but definitely need the structure of something like this. Thanks!
OMG…. Flash back to 2001painting 1 with my teacher Mrs Savage. (Yeah…. That was actually her name). Our first assignment was a coffee mug. Since it was painting, we were working on canvases on easels. I was having a really hard time with the ellipses in the top and bottom of the cup matching up to create realistic depth. So … I raised my hand. (This is my freshman year in college btw). I asked, Mrs Savage, can you demonstrate how to get both ellipses to match up correctly. Everyone laughed at me. All she said was, “don’t your eyes work?” I said yes. Mrs savage said THEN OPEN THEM AND LOOK AT YOUR CUP… do you have any other questions? In the next 4 years I’m pretty sure I didn’t ask her another single question….and I just learned what I needed to know then, without ha ing thé fear of god instilled in me from your video. Thanks!!
I'm an Art teacher too, and your classes are so cool. Thanks Mr. Cowboy!
Thank you so MUCH for this video. I’ve been drawing for awhile and use reference photos and try to follow all the complicated lines and stuff. It’s never quite right and I can never seem to create my own art. Going back to basic is just want I needed! Maybe now I can find my voice in my art.
I've been drawing for a while but I want to get better, and art classes or even SkillShare is out of reach for me.
