I’ve been stuck in an absolute rut with my playing lately, pick up my guitar and play the same old 6/7 songs I always play, try something new, doesn’t sound right and put the guitar back down again. Keep trying to learn the blues and it’s either too simple it can’t keep my attention or it’s way too advanced. This course is absolutely fantastic, can’t stress this enough. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, mint.
Many thanks, been searching for "guitar play blues" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cousin got amazing results with it.
It says free course, but of course it’s ain’t actually free - a free trial via credit card is a different thing entirely. U surely know this, so you’re being intentionally misleading
Hi Lizzie! Yes you’re absolutely correct, but please remember that this video was uploaded many years ago when the content of the site was completely free, without any paying barrier. We have since had to change in order to make some money and survive as a business, and it’s impossible to update old videos on YT. Please know that we still provide the whole video course for free here on YT, which hopefully you’ll agree is pretty cool! 🙏🏻🎉
Yes absolutely! There will be some elements that will be tougher with an acoustic (bends, for example), but overall you can defo do it with acoustic! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🎸🎸
Our goal here is to make top quality guitar instructional videos and make them accessible for everyone :) We do offer the option to pay for the courses on the website if you wish to support the channel!
Hi Randy! You can get the tabs, workbook and much more by joining the YGA Club, you can start your 14 day free trial here: club.yourguitaracademy.com/courses/electric-blues-essentials-level-1
Hi Charlie! Yes of course, nothing better to get you out of a rut than a focused course!! The drum machine is an Alessia SR8 - very cool, but getting a little old now!
So I have just started on this course. I find it kinda hard to move my fingers fast enough. Is it “just” keeping at it for some time before moving to part two?
Hi Michael, Yes I'd try sticking with just the first lesson until you feel yourself ready to move onto lesson two. Feel free to watch lesson 2 as they're might be something in there to help you with the first lesson! -Cam
Hugely helpful Your Guitar Academy, love the explanations in detail and how they add depth to blues playing. Don't suppose you have a spare 335 lying around?
Hi Lawrence, You could try slowing the RUclips Video down to 75% or 50% speed to help get used to counting in and then gradually increase the speed. You can choose to slow videos down in the Bottom right hand corner of the video in the setting menu.
@@yga no, I just don’t understand the drumming. I can’t find the down beat. I’m a pretty experienced guitarist, albeit classically trained and not accustomed to swing grooves. I just can’t find the down beat. I’ve tried counting 12/8 123 223 323 423. I’ve tried 4\4. Counting triplets...I just can’t find even a back beat to latch onto. Can you post the notation for the drum intro? That would help? When I click the metronome it’s like it’s trying to give me every subdivision when just the down beats would suffice. Thanks for the response. I’ve got those licks down and riff on dirty blues. Great licks by the way.
I just discovered this series, and after watching this one video, I'm hooked. This may be a little beyond my level, but you present it in a way that makes me think I can get there with some practice. Calling out the degrees of the scale is super helpful, rather than just saying string and fret number.
Your riffs and solos have a really cool vibe. Imho you’re just that little more creative than the average good old blues course and that makes it really fun to learn and play. thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I am getting a lot from this video already! this is so helpful. I am wondering why does it have to be the flat 5 in specific. Could you please explain what makes that flat 5 so special? since it's a chromatic note that could be replaced by other chromatic notes
Thank you for this excellent content. Please could you share a link to the pentatonic course that you mentioned at the start of this video as I can't find it here or on yojur website. Thanks
hey I just wanted to say I seriously admire you guys giving free lessons that are good quality and don't make you spend hundreds I really respect that and keep up the good work!
This is ridiculous, you guys are awesome. I did the caged ome a few montha back and now im gonna tackle this slowly. Best format by far. Thank you so much.
Started playing guitar 7 months ago but really connected with rhythm today. Thankyou for this amazing content. Gonna enjoy finishing up with rest of your series❤
Thanks Dan. Love that you mention the soul of the music as that's something a lot of instruction misses. Some tutors can be too clinical in the way they teach and forget what playing music is all about! It's the vibe and the feel that the player imparts through those touches that makes any music what it is... something that moves people and uplifts us. Great tuition as always. Going to love this course 👍🏾
For a 58-year-old Chicago guitar player, like me --well-versed in the Blues -- to pick up a few pointers from this English bloke kind of pisses me off! Thanks, mate.
If you're struggling with the timing slow things down a little give yourself the time to get the fingers behind and also make sure that most of the vibrato is coming from the wrist rather than the fingers :)
Hi, you could download a metronome app on your phone there are plenty for free but also if you just google ' metronome' google offer a basic on in browser. Once you've done that you just insert the desired BPM (Speed) you wish to play at! :)
The title says for intermediates. I’m pretty sure anyone who has yet to play their “first blues solo” can’t be called intermediate. That said, thanks for making all your videos available.
Thanks so much. Really well delivered. I'm so glad I found this channel. I do have a question though. Can you help me understand why we choose to go to the minor third on the A string for the first part and the E for the second? What's the advatage? Or is it just for practice sake?
The addition at the end of "you can play it like this" (general "mistakes" [i guess more oversights, compared to mistakes], without letting the "magic flow") and then the presentation of the techniques to achieve the chiseled end, is extremely helpful. Also, thank you for referring to them theoretically so we can apply the knowledge to any scale and place on the fretboard. Awesome course!
This is amazing. Been playing for year, was never very skilled and now I am starting all over from the bottom. I want to unlearn bad habits and learn new proper ones. This is just what the doctor ordered. Also I think it's really going to be good for ears. Tabs help but become a crutch
I'm approaching this course now. Never having formal Guitar Lessons, I learned the minor Pent. I go up the neck. Then I alternated every other day with the Blues Scale. Was out due to an eye problem. That was fixed thank God. Love this course so far.👍
That "blues note" was eluding me for years :) Really, I was lurking all around pentatonic for a few years with guitar and piano but never thought to take a "step back". :) Thanks!
Why oh WHY didn’t I discover this brilliant channel earlier. The resources, the explanations, even the camera angles are simply fantastic. I’m going to spread the word. Superb.
Hey dan, i am a big big fan of your brilliant teaching style. Learned alot from you. The way you deconstruct the links behind making the music is sooooo good. I just have a request, if you can make a player study series of the Robert Johnson as we can learn the most essential concepts of blues. Please❤️
Loving the online lessons . Work has been busy as has been life . Your followers are rising. Bought another telecaster Daniel . Cheers . Much congratulations and best wishes on continued success. I have surprised myself in my skills since we started working together. Cheers Daniel .
Still can't understand why this channel doesn't have a million subscribers. Really good stuff.
At last someone who shares the same view as me.
I've thought this since I subscribed!
It's mad! 🤘🏻🎸
Agree also. It’s like a guitar university for free.
You guys are all too kind!! Hopefully one day we’ll have a cool 1 mill!
I agree with you
Thats what I'm saying I've spent money on courses that have been about half as usful as this series
This is probably the best format for guitar lessons I've ever seen on youtube. Can't wait for the next 26 installments(!!!)
Haha! Thanks Andrew! So happy you’re enjoying the format! 😀😀😀

Welcome Jojo! Great to have you on board!
Excited for this one.. Good basic start.. Thanks so much..
Good luck Philippine!

Your Guitar Academy ohhhh thank you sooo much.!!! so gonna love this .!!

Can I ask what you’re using for the drum loop?
Hi Charlie! Yes of course, nothing better to get you out of a rut than a focused course!! The drum machine is an Alessia SR8 - very cool, but getting a little old now!
Haven't found a better Blues lesson on RUclips than this one... awesome work. Thanks a ton 😁🙏🏼

Haha! Alas, no. But I’m sure you can find one lying around in a guitar shop for about £2,500!! 😭😭😭
I've been a lifelong finger picker .
These lessons are helping me break out of my box
💪
Man, this is very kind of you. great lesson.
YGA is fantastic with more units than I have time for and I am retired, lol many thanks
Hello
Man, that 2 bars of drum intro on the track is pretty hard to count. Any tips on counting that in?
Hi Lawrence,

You can do it Daniel! Just go through the course gradually, and do the practice in between - if you need help, we’re here to help 😀😀
Just started my journey in this 'blues essentials' course. Lesson 1 completed...looking forward to completing this coursework. Thank you.
Thank you so much sir for giving such beautiful lessons on RUclips, love from India

That means a lot to me dude! I love the creative side of making the courses, so I’m glad you picked up on it!
The quality of these tutorials is mind-blowing. How is that free? ❤

Great lesson and thank you. Could not help keep looking at all those guitars hanging on the wall.
No problem at all!!! Yes, plenty to choose from there! 😀😀
Agreed 🎸🎸
Great first lesson. Looking forward to the rest of the course.
Love this. This is exactly what I want to learn when I think of the blues. Please never stop making videos!
Which course are you referring to when you are talking about the pentatonic shapes ? I do not find any link...
hi i love those courses , may is this 12. shuffle or regular blues? how do you axtually recognize those ?
You keep reffering to the scale shapes, calling them by number? Is there a lesson for that?
Thank you for this excellent content. Please could you share a link to the pentatonic course that you mentioned at the start of this video as I can't find it here or on yojur website.
Thanks
This is the course I have been waiting for 💙👍🏻
Hey Andrew! Keep us updated with how you get on 😀😀😀
Still Busy with this level 1 but Will go on with level 2 when finished. These lessons are really worth the time. Thanks for sharing.

Totally agree 10 out of 10
YGA is awesome! Can’t wait for this course!
Thanks Steve!!!
I couldn’t find the link to the minor pentatonic course. Does anyone found it?
One of the best lessons on RUclips
i cant believe this is all free on RUclips good stuff
Bounce right to 1:52 ---- REALLY -» G-R-E-A-T ----» one!! √√
Hi,are there tabs? Can't find em. Nice hidden.or do i have to pay for?
Nearly 2 minutes until you actually do instructing 👏
Good basics. But 40 words when 5 would do.
Been playing for a almost 30 years (mostly metal rhythm). Starting this course tomorrow. Can’t wait.
Awesome stuff! Can't wait to hear how you get along with it! 🤟

😂😂
Amazing yhank you!
I love this beginners lesson on G chord blues. I will be back.
Thank you we look forward to hearing how you get on! 🙌
Good lesson.
I miss tabs on the screen
Looks fantastic. A major problem when trying to improve is dipping into random videos with no plan or structure, this should really help.
When I do the hammer on I use 1 finger, then find it hard to put fingers behind that quickly for the vibrato. Any tips?
If you're struggling with the timing slow things down a little give yourself the time to get the fingers behind and also make sure that most of the vibrato is coming from the wrist rather than the fingers :)
How can i check the tab
How do you set up the metronome to count in the riff?
Hi, you could download a metronome app on your phone there are plenty for free but also if you just google ' metronome' google offer a basic on in browser. Once you've done that you just insert the desired BPM (Speed) you wish to play at! :)
@@yga I mean do I set it to count 12 beats per measure with 8th note getting 1 beat and quarter note getting 2 beats, etc… I’m use to 4/4 or 3/4.
@@TheJazieyone Ahh okay, you can set the metronome to 4/4 to count yourself in for this piece :)

Great lesson is that guitar an ES-335 or something else because the body seems smaller that a 335.
You're right, this is an ES-339! Which has a slightly smaller body :)
can i know basics of blues i mean how to go major to minor according to chord progression through the scales?
That's what going through this course will show you how to do! so yes! :)

how to practice and not get bored?
Practice more of what you enjoy rather than what you think you should! maybe on a practice session 30% not fun practice 70% something you enjoy! :D
@@yga yes, that's very clever advice.
Think of the girls you'd attract when you play the solo 🎉
I think I'll study with this series. 🤔 I really like the style of your presentation so far.

This course is fantastic! Is that a Gibson 335 or 339?
339!
So glad i found this! haven't played guitar in a decade and was looking to get back into it. it feels very close to having actual in person lessons!
I’m about to support financially
This stuff is gold for newer players like me. Thanks
Thanks for adding this to the world. Our planet is a little happier now.
