Good Video. Perhaps in a communal effort people could stick in comments good 2nd hand refurbished suggestions at
LG V series are good for audio Quad DACs and now not longer being made so they are going cheap. The V20 is the only one with removable battery though
@@123benley That's not true. The v20 was the most recent with a removable batter but the v10 had one as well.
@@exturkconner v10 didn't have a quad dac I belive though did it? Only an amp after that they added quad dac and amp to v20 to v60 look up it's specs
@@123benley Yeah that is true. However it pretty much amounts to the same. The Ess Sabre dac amp combo in the v10 is essentially just as good a performer as the quad dac in the other units. The v20 was also tuned differently depending on the region it was purchased in. Some version were tuned by LG where others were tuned by Bang and Olefson.
V60 is sublime with HD 650s headphones using power amp and EQ. Gives most daps a run for there money 1tb SD card 256gb phone your golden
But I've also half a dozen modded ipods that are at a TV with zero red iems or a dock into my Amp so they sound great can get 24 bit 48khz digital out through 30 pin and the right dock that has its own dac built into it fed to a DAC Amp or combo avr sounds great
I also have portable amps for ipods too
LG phones are best for this. Because it can drive up to 600 ohms and has a saber deck that's a the significant step up from the one with Sony. But another option could be a new budget phone like the OnePlus n30 is 60 bucks from Metro PCS ( well technically it's 20 bucks but you have to buy $40 plan for a month). It's locked for 6 months but that's really not an issue if you're not putting a SIM card in it anyway. And it has a headphone jack, and expandable storage which as you mentioned are basically the two key features here
but i want it compact though lots of lg phones are very big. esp the flagship ones that still ahas a jack
@@jojoenathanAre the G8 or G8x too big for you?
LG G5 with the audio module sounds perfect. I found the phone for around $200, but I can't find the module
Old LG and Sony phones do great, one with intergrated DAC and one with DSEE HX
Great video. Thanks for your input. It is indeed a good way to give another use to discarded cellphones.
Using my old Galaxy S10e for this. Coupled with a Hiby USB C DAC ans IEMs.
To simplify the interface and remove the temptation of apps wanting attention, I'm using Productivity Launcher. My flac files plus streaming services... It's a good option.
Nice idea to use an old phone for a DAP and always better to reuse than buy new or recycle if you can.
Yep just slap on a battery case, plug in a USB-C dongle DAC-AMP (Hidizs S9 Pro, Fiio KA3, and Cayin RU6/RU7 are all very good at their respective prices) 👍
Thats why I am keeping my lg g7 thinq
i used a samsung s7 edge with lineageos for this, but i upgraded it to a mi 10t lite for the better dac (ofc still using lineageos)
I use old phones for this very reason and as a remote control for spotify connect on my streamers the one thing I would say is most phones don't have a very good dac on board, so purchasing a desktop dac/amp makes a huge improvement available through amazon from about £50 upwards for a fiio e10 or a fiio k7 £190 brings your audio experience to a whole new level I'm now the owner of over 20 amps! But seriously, I'd advise anyone to try this route for serious audio quality for their desktop
Good video
Any other phones you recommend here in the uk?
Kept my Moto g7 power for the FM radio if I want the radio on at work with my cheap in ear headphones. Sacrilege while discussing high quality audio I know.
but practical
Still have my 6s plus
They can push more resistance through the headphone port, huh? Haha
Ahhh what I meant was they can push power to headphones with more resistance
I literally bought a lot of 2 LG v20's a week or two ago JUST for the cheapo, yet awesome, DACs in em 🍻 ..figured that removable battery will go a long way in longevity. Sorry fiio devices, but that's the hill you'll die on 🤷
Especially if you can grab some perfine batteries they go up to 1000mah
PLP
I have a pixel 7a. Rubbish
A LG v60 LG v20 just awaiting a 1000mah battery for my LGv20 both LG have 1tb SD cards quad DACs.
I feel I'm winning in life lol as I also have multiple 5.5ipods and 7th gen iPods with iflash quads and 2200mah batteries .
IEMs and HD650s that work on all of what I've listed bar the pixel 7a. Unless I go dongle DAC
Android smartphones are good for listening to music...but it is with usb audio player pro application...without this application, any smartphone is rubbish for listening to music...I already had several smartphones and today I have three.
Many smartphones don't play DSD and AIFF codec music, they don't play lossless bit perfect audio ,you can't use internal DAC chip hires (if you have one) little amplification and a lot of background noise...with UAPP everything is resolved and the sound is of good quality.
I do free advertising for USB audio player pro... because it is an excellent application... it works magic.😁
I'd mention, connsider getting at least a dongle dac for better audio quality on an old phone. Regular 3.5 jacks on most phones are sucky
Only downside is that security patches are gone for older devices
use a custom rom
Does it really matters for this usage tho? Especially if you just use it as an offline DAP playing local files
My LG V20, with 1TB card full of flacs, dsd files, and a 6400 mAh Perfine battery is my dap of choice. I'll take the Pepsi challenge against any Sony experia phones. 😂
