A pimp Named Slickback dude they were on Sub Pop a very popular underground label and were well known in underground scenes around the world. Bleach sold 40 thousand copies in America in 89 and 90 .
@@65neu52 I was living in seattle and heavily involved with this scene in those years. They were well known in the clubs around WA. and OR. they werent unknowns, but i think you're overestimating their fanbase at the time by a lot. Also, subpop was on the verge of closing when Nirvans broke and brought exposure to their label, but dont take my word for it, there is an interview with Poneman or Pavitt on here where they talk about how they were on their last legs and about to go under.
A pimp Named Slickback Yea sub pop were on the verge that has nothing to do with a bands support and following look at every single Nirvana show and the crowds knew the songs had the merch and grew every show. love buzz was released a year before this gig and Bleach was out all summer, 6 months before this show. I know the scene yeh it wasn’t major label era but Nirvana had fans internationally dude this is freakin France in 1989 and it’s rocking at this gig. My only point is people trying to discredit and take away from all the work kurt and nirvana did in the underground for years before they broke as if they were completely unknown and had no die hard support. They always did.
As much as Dave Grohl is an absolute prodigy, Chad definitely deserves a big piece of the credit for Nirvana. Has a kind of jazzy vibe and pretty unconventional sounding.
Chad Channing was a TRILLION times better than Dave and I tell you why,Dave is a drummer for a heavy metal band, not for a grunge band! Most folks never figured that out,and plus that,Dave was a member of a hardcore punk band before Nirvana...Chad Channing has a more grunge vibe,he was Nirvana's best drummer.Dale Crover was also amazing!
Rope Dsbm you’re an idiot, Kurt made that happen the drums changed nothing but how much better there rhythm section sounded. I hate when people defend chad Kurt hated his drumming and if anything his opinion matters the most when it comes to his own band lmao
u obviously dont play drums....he really sucks....just compare how weak school sounds compared to how they played it later in 91 with Dave...so much more energy.....even Dale was better....he kicked ass....chad really lacked....cobain made the right move
Just love these Bleach era shows. It's hilarious when fans shout for Johnny B Goode. And I'm sure from Kurt's response that he is thinking "what the hell??!, they really want us to play that", haha. And George Thorogood, bad to the fucking bone, that would be awesome to hear, haha. Obviously seen this many times before, but a lot better to watch with better audio :)
2 years before Nirvana hit it big time, 41:10 , here's one of the few fans that can actually claim to have liked them enough to know the words to their song.
41:08 that guy singing negative creep in the crowd is a true nirvana fan... dude, it's 1989, they were in france for an european tour with TAD, their names aren't even in the big titles on the posters
I love the style of music Nirvana was playing on the first album, their style changed so much on the second album. First album was really RIFFY and heavy. It sounded more Metalish, it was heavier, angrier and darker.
These are some of the best sounding versions I've ever heard! So clean. So much energy. Big Cheese is AMAZING! And the double kick drum adds an extra fire and freshness that just breathes new life into these songs. The band is on point and jamming their asses off. Wonderful job restoring this show. I love it!
MERCI !!!!!!! The sound is surprisingly good in my opinion, especially Kurts vocals. Its very clear especially being from the late 80's. I really Appreciate the upload. Everyday I am thankful that there is a platform like RUclips to not only preserve, but also to be able to show amazing concerts like this. Especially for a younger generation that might not have even been born when Nirvana was around. Fortunately I was around to see them live once in Chicago, I obviously didn't know at the time it would be my one and only chance to see them. You always think, great show, I cant wait until they come back next year.
Chris J In mid 1989, I think it was, Nirvana came to play in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh where I grew up. They played at a very small club called the Sonic Temple. I was going to go and then thought I’ll see them next time they come to my town, most definitely at a larger club, I bet. I very distinctly remember thinking those exact thoughts. It was unbelievable. I loved the band at the time and still do. I did not go never got another chance to see them. I am regretting it still
I saw Nirvana on this tour in Lawrence KS, USA. Nobody had heard of them or barely even Sub Pop at that time, but, over the next 40 minutes, in little more than a two-car garage, their savage and relentless performance, along with total demolition of the stage, left everyone drained and confounded. What did we just see?! And did I mention they were the opening act? After realizing that the crowd was spent, the headliners, played 15 minutes and left. We drove to Kansas City the next day and bought everything "Nirvana" we could find. There was no doubt this band was going to change music and the world. BK
It's so great to see nirvana in the underground and in the mainstream. Literally two world. It's really crazy that the band existed only for 7 years. Such a short journey from underground and sleeping in a car to the world-class band that changed the mainstream and left mark on history

In 1989 I was constantly grounded for getting into and causing all kinds of trouble so when my cousin tried to sneak me out of the house to go see Nirvana at the Pyramid in NYC in ‘89 we got caught by my pops and he chased my cousin off and I missed the show. I finally got to see them on July 23 1993 at Roseland NYC. I’m still bummed that I missed out on a ‘89 show so I love seeing shows posted from that year. So I thank you
