  • In this video, we want to review another Forclaz MT900 Air R 5.4 Sleeping Pad from Decathlon. We've already done quite a few gear reviews from this brand. And also, in our recent videos, we reviewed a sleeping pad with the same name. However, this is not exactly the same model; this one has a different "R" value, indicating its higher insulation characteristics and making it suitable for 4 season use. Yet, as we discovered during the review, we could find even more differences from the model without insulation. So, stay tuned; it will be intriguing. If you've been curious about the differences between these seemingly similar sleeping pads, then this video will be beneficial for you.

    We are a couple who once fell in love with mountains and couldn't get back. So we decided to follow our heart and move from a big city to a small village to be able to do what we love and to create this content. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to travel more and care for nature around. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. We offer the detailed information of our hikes and routes, including the map and all the directions, so that you can repeat it if you'd like to.
    We choose walking over driving and other types of transportation whenever we can because we learnt that this way we see so much more and can explore and feel the place better. Walking is an excellent activity that has so many benefits to your health and requires no special equipment or practice, so we encourage you to get the most out of it and get out walking.

    You are using the pump sack wrong. You need to blow in it from a distance so it fills up with air in one breath. Check out videos online on how it works.

    • @djijomurdjevic
      @djijomurdjevic 3 месяца назад +6

      Agree, this also minimises moisture intake.

    • @GrandBst
      @GrandBst 3 месяца назад +2

      yes that was exactly what i was thinking ,in fact i tried to inflate this sleeping pad at décathlon and it only take 8 blow in the pump sac

      Thanks for mentioning it, we have learnt this lesson since then, it was a discovery to us!

    Looks like you guys don't read comments, because people already said it in your previous video, but let's try again: the instructions on the pump sack states that you must blow air with your mouth 20 cm away from the sack, this will allow much more air to get into the pump sack

    • @kaspersergej
      @kaspersergej Месяц назад +2

      Hehe, the thing is, that‘s simply physics 😂

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад

      We do read the comments always just don't get around to answer to them every time. We still like to use our small electric pump for inflating as we recently discovered it but this sack is another decent option for inflation.

    Try blowing into the pump sack from some distance. This way you utilise the Bernouli effect, as intended for these kind of pump sacks. This minimises moisture intake from your breath.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад

      This technique was new to us, and it actually works fine! Thanks!

  • @Daniel_S.
    @Daniel_S. 3 месяца назад +8

    If you increase the distance between your mouth and the pump sack, you will only need one or two breaths to completely fill the pump sack. It is important to push the air column between the mouth and the pump sack so that a lot of air is carried along. If you breathe directly into your pump funnel, it would be completely useless.

    •  3 месяца назад

      Besides that important point, this method also minimizes any mould-causing moisture that may enter the pad.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад +1

      That's a great method, we have never actually thought of using it this way, and belevied it was a useless piece of gear before but it actually works out great!

    The pump is a must for me, so handy also to fully deflate and easier to put away. Decathlon makes good products at reasonable prices, Onetigris came up with a high insulation pad for $80 USA dollars in Amazon. I’m going to be trying it on the field in Yosemite in a few days. Thanks for the video.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад

      Yes, we love the pump too, deflation is so easy with it and makes the gear very compact to pack. Thanks for mentioning a new piece of gear, never heard of it before. But the insulated pads seem much more comfortable too. Let us know what you think of it.

    That mat will be full of mold with how you're inflating it with that pump sack 😂😂

    • @kaspersergej
      @kaspersergej Месяц назад +2

      Mold is a myth.

      We learnt it the hard way when destroying two of our pads with time, completely unaware it is our breath that was doing it. Now we are using our electric pump and can't be happier with it.

    Are you able to identify the type of insulation in the pad? Is it reflective (like the thermarest xtherm), or does it have some kind of filling?
    Thanks!

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад

      Hi, it is not reflective but has a filling that gives an insulation, it is very comfortable too

    Just for choosing the right size, how tall is your husband? I‘m exactly 183cm and would like to save the 100g and the 0.8 Liters of Volume on my trips. So do you think it will be a problem for me to use the L-Size?

    3:01 не хочу показаться занудой, но вы не правильно используете воздушный мешок для надувания матраса. Просто откройте руками вход для воздуха и чуть чуть "поддуйте" внутрь. Дуновение воздуха затягивает с собой ещё чуть воздуха, мешок слегка надувается и можно начинать закручивать толкая воздух внутрь коврика. Вы надуваете коврик не объёмом воздуха из лёгких, вы надуваете коврик внешним воздухом, и делать это можно очень быстро, быстрее чем электрический насос, а весит этот мешок граммы.
    Это как технология которую придумали для воздушных пляжных кресел, когда ты открываешь мешок, чуть взмахнул им в воздухе, он наполнился, ты сразу сворачиваешь его и получается целое кресло, диван и тд. Классная штука.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  21 день назад +1

      Да, это отличная техника которую мы открыли совсем недавно благодаря нашему видео и фидбэку от зрителей. До этого мы считали эти мешки бесполезными:) Спасибо что поделились!

    3:15 - you do it wrong (there is precise instruction shown 10s earlier in the movie): dont stick your mouth to the inflation bag but keep them ca. 20 cm away and blow inside oneor two times (phisic done the rest) then rapidly close the inlet. At the end push traped air into the mat.
