- The National Academy of Sports Medicine has just made one of the most significant changes to its Certified Personal Trainer program since its inception. CPT candidates will now be able to take an optional non-proctored and non-accredited exam that will provide them a certificate.
In this video, Coach Joe Drake from the Axiom Fitness Academy and NASM podcast host Rick Richey discuss what this new testing change means for those working towards certification and how it might transform the fitness industry.

🔥🥳🔥
My two favorites in the business !! Been waiting to see you together !! Have learned so much more in compete knowledge from you two!! Glad NASM is reaching out adding more.ways to succeed !
It was a blast!
Can you do non proctored and then do the proctored and if so are both included in cost
Yes! Both are included
Both options expire after 180 days of starting the course. Mine expires in December. I feel like if I were to do the non-proctored version this month, I'd still only have 2 or so months before my proctored exam expires. Right?
You are correct. Taking 1 doesn’t impact the other.
can you still get a job with the trainer certificate?
The real answer to this is “maybe,” as it will depend on the employer.
Some gyms will require an NCCA accredited certification to obtain employment and start training clients while others may hire trainers with the non-accredited certificate provided they obtain accreditation within a defined time period such as 60-90 days.
It’s important to discuss hiring requirements with potential employers early to ensure eligibility and minimize disappointment.
Great breakdown of what's going on! Love your videos! I am in the process of studying for the proctored exam. Have a bit of anxiety going in, but I know this is what I want to do. Are we allowed to take the non-proctored exam as almost like a practice exam? I have my proctored exam set up for sep 20th of this year, but from what I understood I can take the non proctored and still take the proctored without having to pay another fee? Thanks!
Yes! You can (and should!) use the non-proctored exam for practice without any additional fees.
@@Axiomfitnessacademy I will definitely take advantage of this. Thank you!
'I've purchased the CPT course and exam, how do we access the non-proctored Trainer Certificate exam?
Hey Jack. You should be able to access the non-proctored exam via your NASM account. If you don't see it, then you can always have a NASM rep add it to your account.
How do I choose the non-proctored version? I do not see it on my NASM account.
You may need to call NASM and ask them to add the option to your account.
Does this effect the ability of CE?
Not sure I understand the question.
@@Axiomfitnessacademy if you take the open book test route does it effect the continuing education CE credits in two years?
