That is the largest impediment to the Hindu Rastra. The issue is not the glory days that we are planning to claim or reclaim. What follows from the precepts of pluralism is that it requires proselytization be banned. Note that though individuals may seek out and convert to other faiths. Active proselytization would have to be banned. This is a problem for most of these folks. They have been brain washed by the Christian west that proselytization is a right and is required to guarantee religious freedom. Unfortunately, it is not the case. My right to practice my religion unimpeded means that no-one has to right to say that my path is wrong to begin with.

It looks like the words "Hindu" and "Hinduism" have become a problem in India today. Many Hindus especially in Tamil Nadu want to distance themselves from the word Hinduism. It is impossible to separate Hindu culture and Hinduism from India and call yourself Indian. India is primarily a Hindu nation formed on Hindu civilization. The rest of the world sees India as a Hindu nation and a great Hindu civilization but only some Indians seem to have some problems with that notion. My Mausa was obviously Muslim , a very senior diplomat of a different country . Another conversional passtime of theirs was to quietly slip in onions in my Tuesday upwaas alu ka sabji . Second, affirmative action on the basis of caste is required because a significant proportion of the so-called lower castes continue to bear the brunt of thousands of years of being denied education, opportunities, inclusion and even human-ness. On the other hand, upper caste Hindus remain the most privileged group in India despite centuries of Muslim rule. But the problem with people like him is that, having lived all his life as ‘secularists’ their attempts now to atone for their faulty stand by writing books on Adi Sankara and Hindu civilisation doesn’t hold much water. I would advise him to be bold enough to say ‘sorry’ to the Hindus!

First of all, seeing the Hindus and Muslims of today as the "two parties" who are involved in the issue of a so-called reclaiming of our past is delusional at best and misleading at worst.
Second, affirmative action on the basis of caste is required because a significant proportion of the so-called lower castes continue to bear the brunt of thousands of years of being denied education, opportunities, inclusion and even human-ness. On the other hand, upper caste Hindus remain the most privileged group in India despite centuries of Muslim rule. In addition to this, Muslims, the alleged oppressors are the most backward community of the country (Sacchar Committee Report). What's there to redress?
