Shhhhh. Keep it a secret, or others will get the useful information too. Joey's channel is so wonderfully packed with useful information and yet so tiny, that I'm confident nobody will ever notice, that I'm just copying his advice whenever I put my drone to use...
Thanks ! Resume : 1- Plan before you fly 2 - Variety is key 3 - Right time of the day 4 - Have fore & background 5 - Purposeful movement 6 - Motion blur 7 - Cinematic aspect ratio
Great tips and well-presented! And definitely plan your shots first. When you know what you want to shoot and how you want to capture it allows you to get into flow mode.
Joye! Great video ... until you talked about tip nº7 :) - It's really an amateur mistake to add black bars into the video. The right/pro way to actually do so is using the right or correct aspect ration in the sequence of your final film from the beginning, not just through the black bars on top.
Thanks Vadim! Appreciate it. Would love to hear your thoughts on how you would achieve an aspect ratio of 1:2.35 in camera on a drone (assuming that this 'cinematic aspect ratio' is what you are going for). The only way I see this possible if you fly a DSLR/Cinema Camera with an anamorphic lens. Since this combination is extremely heavy you will likely need a drone in the size of a DJI Matrize. ;)
@@Joey_Helms Joey, you can't do that in the camera, in consumer or prosumer drone cameras that is. Specific cinema camera, yes. BUT, ... what I was saying in the comment is that instead of applying black bars on top of video to get the "feel of cinematic aspect ration" (guilty I did the same in the past) one should create sequence/project in post-production stage, already with cinematic aspect ration in mind such as 2:35:1 or 2.39:1, 1.375:1 (academy aspect ration) or even emulating anamorphic lens's aspect ration and insert their footage into that composition. In that case, when you will be playing it, the black bars will be added by the video player not artificially by the user in a post. Also, in that case, you have more room to maneuver your footage composition-wise if you want to correct something. I see the layered "black bars" too many times with so many bloggers, and that cheapens the production and screams amateur. You give a piece of great advice for a beginner drone users in your video, I just don't want them to repeat the "black bars mistake"
Ah, now I got ya! Totally hear you on this and also agree that the output format should ideally reflect this Vs black bars. Two exceptions: 1. You have a video (very much like this one) where you want to show the difference between 'talking head' and 'cinematic sequence'. 2. If you want to use RUclips engagement features like endscreens. Those won't work on a video with 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Bummer I know
Joey Helms Ahh, always forgetting about YT generation. :) 1. Absolutely agree. For the demonstration purposes it’s a good way to explain. 2. Lol. I don’t use YT so much (neither do I care about those features too much). I prefer Vimeo (more pro crowds and better content) and you right. But I hope people who watching you video really want to excel and instead of producing drone videos, they wish to creat an aerial films and then they should do the “right” way. Anyway. Wish you best of luck
Hey Joey, fantastic videos. Where were the snowy cityscapes filmed? The black beaches look Icelandic, but the city doesn't look like Reykjavik? Thanks for the tips and inspiration to get my Mavic Air in the sky again...
Joey Helms Ah! It all falls into place - your shot was very reminiscent of the scene in The Dark Knight Rises when the politicians and police are forced to walk out on the ice, and I believe Chicago was the filming location for Gotham! Great work.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen. 👏👏👏 🎬
Thanks so much brother! 🤜🤛

Thanks. Seen a few of your videos on drone cinematics, this guy knows his stuff
I appreciate that!
Awesome
Cheers ☺️
You should review the DJi Osmo Pocket or the the DJi Osmo action ?
If I get my hands on it for sure! ;)
Some good tips and some excellent footage!
Thanks a ton
Hi Joey great video, I was a little confused about number 6, do you mind explaining a little more for a newbie like myself. Cheers!
Thanks a ton - check out this video I made a few years ago which goes into more depth on that topic: ruclips.net/video/P-kCBeu9_zg/видео.html

Cheers! The snowy city is Chicago! I have a full video on the da the city froze over last year. Check it out. And yeah, beaches are Iceland ;)

Where do you get your music from?!
Hey Matt - Most of my music comes from Epidemic Sound. You can try it for free here: share.epidemicsound.com/JHfreetrial
so where is the link about 180' ?????
Could I use the sky viper dash drone for these.
Most moves can be achieved with any drone that flies and has a movable gimbal
