Syncthing is better, it won't automatically start syncing your files without permission.
OneDrive behaves like it was designed by a sociopath and syncs folders that you don't even add without waiting for permission. It doesn't let you select just one folder. Maybe it's the result of some terrible updates, but OneDrive just doesn't work properly. It sunk HOURS down the drain trying to fix and bring everything back that it deleted during the "backup" process.
(I blame only the app and developers for this, the RUclips presentation here is doing a great job explaining everything, it just no longer works)
Great video! One question - if you use the same folder for your Desktop/Mobile Obsidian apps - do you have any conflicts with Plugins or other Settings? (i mean for example some plugins are not working for Obsidian mobile app).
If I recall correctly, non mobile-friendly plugins will be disabled when you use mobile but will be re-enabled once you go back to desktop. Everything transitions well except for if when you have multi panes open in desktop and then try to view it on mobile as the screen sizes are completely different :p does that help?

I use syncthing, You can sync any kind of files with it ✌🏻

I don't think so, I think the syncing is time-based :/

Can you please share a link to all your desktop wallpapers? I'm a big fan of vapour wave too but can't find good wallpapers :(
Hi, all my desktop wallpapers aren't based on vaporwave/outrun but more on anime, and I use an application called wallpaper engine for it (disclaimer, it does cost money). I usually just search up for wallpapers related to shows I watch, and then from there do I choose the ones with a vaporware color scheme :p
Slightly confused: I currently have my obsidian folder on my desktop. If I drag it to my onedrive folder I can't access it with Obsidian, so is your method here just something you back up like every few days?
when i choose a folder to open in obsidian as a vault, im able to access the content of the onedrive folder so I just select it there, is the folder hidden on your computer?

hmm i haven't tested on if the conflict is based on editing, but i do get those, probably something to do with how OneDrive deals with resyncing

unfortunately for someone who uses sort by created time, this method doesn't work because the app uses downloading and uploading and deleting to sync the files in the mobile instead of moving and renaming things and it ruined the creation dates. still wondering if there's a better way for someone who uses the creation date as a sorting system
You can use templater or default templates to include the time created in actual contents of the note, whether it be metadata or at the bottom of the page like me, which wouldn't be affected

Hmm, there could be a lot of issues, and I'm not sure where to start
how do you drag the obsidian files to one drive in the first place
Once you setup OneDrive on your desktop you should see a file for onedrive in the file explorer
Is there any free solution for iPhone (with out iCloud) ?

I have done something similar with Syncthing between mobile, Windows and Ubuntu.

Me too, works fine as long as I make sure to not jump to another device too quickly.
Great video but my accounts aren't auto syncing like you show in the video. I have a Windows PC and Samsung S21. Obsidian files are in my OneDrive on my laptop and by phone but when I open Obsidian on my phone, OneDrive is not an option to choose where to pull files from.
That's interesting because I also have a Samsung s21, maybe the files aren't properly stored by onesync or the storage of the vault is nested in some other folder?
I have the exact same problem on my Motorola 5g, it seems the files and folders inside onedrive only exists in the app's cache

Oy vey, lol, talk about unnecessary entropy, this is what Bruce Lee spoke about when he touted "Don't confuse the finger for the Moon".... all this ~using one app to facilitate another, accounts linked to accounts, trying to avoid purchases, Data encryption security / privacy, yada yada~...
...you (people in general) are confusing sync (finger) for convenience (moon), when all that is required to arrive at the same desired output, is a good old-fashioned wire ('input' pun intended)
Just plug in your phone for all of half a millisecond, copy your desktop Obsidian folder over to your phone in a blip, go about your day using mobile version anywhere, and just reverse this process when you want to pick up where you left off at home.
No need to have multiple apps, silly accounts, it's free and remove the discussion of Cyber security all together...what the hell is the problem, lol.
.... anything less than this understanding is to fall for the illusion that you need something that you in fact do not. Sophisticated procrastination is real, just use the damn dinosaur wire and move on...now what's for lunch? ;)
(and my vault is exactly 1,932,856 words as of this post, btw, in case anyone is going to try and say it's not practical, the folder transfers flawlessly every time, I thought when canvas came on scene it would slow it down, but nope, lol)
i can see where you're coming from but I personally am fine with the initial setup + potential security risks, and would take them over having to manually sync every time
