Icon Folder has been renamed Iconize and supports adding icons to files, folders, notes, etc. Annotator is pretty nice for highlighting and annotating PDFs & ePub documents.
Ahh yes!! Thanks for this I was going to type it -if someone hadn't. 😁🙌
For those who have to snync Obsidian between Linux, Windows and Android, I can recommend syncthing.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah. Me too, it's been seamless for me. Running syncthing on a tiny home server means that for whichever device I'm using, there's something else there for my current device to sync to. Changes get synced after you pause typing for 10 seconds.
Yes its an awesome tool to have with Obsidian
I wasnt able to find it.
Been using it for yrs, best custom seamless sync ever made
I neglected my Obsidian setup the last months. Your video inspired me, to start using it regularly again. As other comments mentioned, syncing is a crucial part of my setup because I use(d) it with multiple devices and some parts with other people as well. Think, I will set up syncthing on my server and do some syncing magic with that. Thank you for the video, Christian!
Thank you! Let us know if you like it again :)
I love Obsidian, your previous video actually made me aware of it. Thanks for the plugin showcase as i will definitely use these plugins!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Dataview: you can also use it to bring formulas in from other files.
Example: I have one file for each group of formulas I’m using. They rely on several document variables and one imported variable (the calculation). That way I just need to have the values in the frontmatter, read the variable value from the formula document and that’s it. Each time I use the new variable in the document, I get the calculated result. Also works with in-document variables, you just have to prep your formulas accordingly. So you only need to write (and modify) a formula once and keep using it on a whole lot of documents.
That sounds very interesting! Thanks for sharing, I’ll try it out
long time user of Obsidian here, these are some great plugins, thank you for sharing!
Don't know if youre about to mention this. With MacGPT and an OpenAI API Key, you can write a prompt directly into obsidian and also get the response directly to obsidian. Depending on your workflow, this can be amazing.
I'm not so sure on this... if your goal is to generate text sure. If your goal is to cement what you have learned by taking notes - which frames your thoughts and lets you record them then not so much?
Fuck AI Thieves.
@@cantisOne counterpoint: Getting that GPT output directly into your current screen can minimize workflow disruptions. You don't need to alt+tab between Chrome and Obsidian as much. The only real value this can add, however, is if you pare down that information and REWRITE it in your own words. Without rewriting the GPT response, you're absolutely right that it won't help to retain information.
I switched to Obsidian from Evernote after the insane price hike and haven't looked back!
At first I was a bit lost, as I kept trying to use Obsidian like Evernote, until I slowly began to learn how to actually use Obsidian
Fast forward a few months later and I am so glad I made the switch - Obsidian is everything Evernote isn't and so much more!
I think I found out about obsidian on your channel in the past... I had been looking for a replacement for my tech wiki stuff for ages.. I have never looked back.. Obsidian is just simply amazing and some of the addons, plugins make it incredible...
Glad it helped you so much! Obsidian is indeed amazing 🤩
Project looks very interesting, and may allow me to use my project key words very flexibly. For example, every project item (note, document, drawing, image, model) will relate to a project activity, a work-breakdown item, a project element, a material, a location, a specification reference. I could use these as meta data and queries about particular project components would be really quick.
really great video, nice job explaining the different plugins. I'll test these in my workflow.
seeing that sql query turning into a full board is so satifying
True :D
I got a few nice tools: mindmap (to create a mind map from a note), auto note mover (can move notes to folder if it contains a tag), there also is canvas (similar to ExcaliDraw but a core plugin)
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll take a look :)
Obsidian Canvas is sooo powerful! And a great addition to ExcaliDraw
@@wohfab yea you dont really need excalidraw anymore if you use canvas!
@@highstakestrading В Canvas нету рисования
I think, you should look into ZK and ZK-NVIM as well. I'm using it when working from terminal (mostly). And sometimes I'm firing up Obsidian on top of the same notes. They booth are "compatible".
Didn't know what obsidian was before this video. I'm very impressed, it's so cool!!
I'm glad I could get you excited! :D
Dataview is what convinced me to use obsidian. It pretty much replaced my todo app and notion setup. When I create a document in obsidian I include tasks I need to preform for this document. With dataview I've created a canvas which aggregates all the tasks from thes documents which provides me a total overview of what needs to be done. No more elaborate explainations in a tasks to remind me what I was thinking about. Clicking on the tasks brings me to the relevant context.
There's a more suitable plugin to do this, called Checklists, it aggregates checklists from all notes into one list.
I love obsidian. I paid for the sync feature. As much as I don’t mind putting something together figured it was easier lol. One huge thing I use this for is taking RUclips notes. I use TubersLab and i download the obsidian format of the notes and put it inside my vault. But I have been using Readwise too. right now I have TubersLab sync to Readwise then have that sync to obsidian and blam it’s awesome!!
My personal AI will transcribe any video link I give it, save it as a document, then use the content of that videos script for its own generative personality, all in less than a single second, automatically 🤷♀️
TubersLab is dead unless someone gives them a bucket of money. It shuts down next month
@@Trozpent yep, I saw that this week. It’s unfortunate since i use it a lot. Wish they’d release the code so we can self host it for ourselves instead.
@@jeffbrownstain That sounds so cool. How would someone get started getting something like that running?
@@jeffbrownstainhow do you do this?
Dickes Danke für die Empfehlung von QuickAdd. Das ist ja richtig praktisch.
Great video - Mermaid is pretty awesome for making graphs and stuff as well.
Mermaid support in Obsidian is excellent and learning the mermaid syntax absolutely worth it.
Thanks for the video. What would be a great plugin to easily add process flows (BPMN) into Obsidian? Tx
Thank you so much. Finally a good video.
Glad you liked it!
Gute Empfehlung danke Dir!
Danke :)
Hey, nice content!
I found new useful plugins here... Thanks!
Great to hear!
Very good very good!! Thank you!!
Thank you too!
"Noten" is used for (school) grades and music notes. These types of notes are called "Notizen" in german 😊
Love it when Tech people i follow get into obsidian 🥰
Nice! :D
I guess i'm about to set-up Obsidian.
Amazing! Great Video :)
Thanks a lot!
@nicolevdh is a *ridiculously great resource* for obsidian (and more, of course)!
Oh yeah!
With the calendar in obsidian, is it possible to get it to send notifications on your pc, or would you have to use the windows or mac calendar for that ?
Will you make a video on how you config all your plugins and your workflow? Something like a tutorial, since I think your layout and brief description of your workflow is really cool and I want to replicate it. Thanks for considering
Not in the near future, but I'll add it to the backlog ;)
my most favourite is core canvas plugin
Thanks for the very useful video. I saw some people using Obsidian to create network layout (how to connect wires switched and routers, for example). How can I do that?
You’re welcome :) I think you could just use excalidraw for that, that’s how I’m doing it.
Great video. You are very good at explaining things! Sub++. Do you know whether the project plugin can do DB relationships? I'd like to be able to link detailed status notes as a view within each project / story / KR. Thanks!
Thank you! :) I'm not sure about what's your ask, do you want to connect a database? Or is that a question about data view?
Great video tyvm
Thanks for watching!
top notch content!!
THx ;)
Does dataview actually write to a MD file, as in the content it produces and shows is static content that is regenerated when the view is loaded or is it dynamic such that the file only ever contains the the sql like query?
I believe Icon folder is now called Iconize (at least it's by the same author it looks like)
I can attest to that! It says this in the coloured box in the plugin description, "Obsidian Icon Folder becomes Obsidian Iconize! Read this discussion for more information.
NEWEST UPDATE (15/11/23) Add icons to your notes and texts in live-preview and preview-mode!"
excellent video! how did you leave the left vertical bar with a gradient color?
he showed how he chooses colors using the icon plugin
No that's not what he showed. I think the ribbon bar would need a css snipet to achieve that gradient
Anybody else hear Klaus in his voice? 😂
Is there a way have sub-tasks and dependent tasks with Obsidian? Need this for project management.
I prefer Joplin, but Obsidian is doing some great things.
I'm still searching for a plugin which uses the folder structure as the graphs connections
Thank you sir
please, What the theme are you using?
Great video! Which app do you use for your macos wallpaper?
Im just using cmatrix on my terminal :P
The organization of folders is interesting.
Do you plan to make a dept video about it.
Knowledge Organization is a very difficult area nowadays, at least for me.
Thanks for the video.
I'm not sure, I often change so many things around
@@christianlempa Change is the way to learn new ways! KKKK
I saw that the image representing the video has a diagram, what did you use to design that diagram?❤
I enjoyed your video
I've been using Logseq for years now. Now you've shown me how much Obsidian seems to have improved over the years and just how many plugins it has compared to logseq. Would you suggest me moving to Obsidian? I assume the files are more or less the same MD format.
depends. if you like a pure outliner with a daily note style than logseq is probably better. (but i use tana for that now). obsidian is better in probably every other way (atm anyway)
If i use obsidian in my windows to create .md's, i got 2 doubts:
- if there a browser way to just view the md's like a chrome extension or google drive webapp i can right click a .md in google drive and "Open with" ?
- in my android phone, how can i view .md's in my google drive ?
Seems people using syc programs to sync folders from main computer into devices, but that doesn't work for me since i got GBs of all sort of files on my google drive folder tree (that i would like start converting .txt into .md), including videos, books etc.. so syncing all is nono. Also not interested in splitting and moving out .md files/images out of current folder tree ss i rather have all type of files in same folder tree.
Any suggestions? i tried couple android apps, but most don't connect or able to open .md files in google drive, and the ones supporting google drive are basic and missing .md things like check boxes etc.
The only one that I ever needed and use it since the beginning is cMenu.
How did you change the color in kanban based on the state?? 00:26
Thanks
Thank you so much for your support bro! :)
Can obsidian search for text that is in screenshots/images? It is a great feature of OneNOTE that I must have.

Hello Cristian Lempa. I want to use the Obsidian application for my engineering education. Although I tried with a clipper and a chrome md text download plugin, I couldn't do exactly what I wanted. When I uploaded the mathematics codes prepared for mathematics students into the application in md format, I saw that mathematical expressions in many subjects such as fraction lines in rational expressions, rooted numbers, exponential expressions of numbers, limits, derivatives, integrals could not occur smoothly as they appear on the site. If there is a solution that I can note all the expressions on the page in the same way, please help me. By the way, there is no copyright infringement. The information on the site is provided for our benefit. 🙏🏻
How did he colorize the icons at the left side
Unfortunately, code blocks inside ``` are wrapped, which makes Obsidian unusable for my use case. Maybe someone knows how to disable it, even though I came too late to the party here.
Yay obsidian.
How to use quickadd as a shortcut onn iphone to make a new quick note? 8:38
thanks
you're welcome
@christianlempa : I have a good Obsidian on one computer. Is there a programmatic way to copy this setup to another computer? Perhaps something like a requirements.txt in Python?
You need to find a way to sync your vault, all settings are stored there as well.
@@christianlempa syncing vaults is not possible because the 2nd computer is a work computer, and separate from personal work. But I want to replicate the plugins and config settings there. How?
rabbit hole after rabbit hole
why did you add .obsidian directory to your gitignore file?
give Trilum notes a try the gui is a bit rough but is crazy powerful, plus it has its own container for syncing and web app
You read my mind :D or comments :D
can you create a video on how you sync your vaults?
Obsidian looks awesome and I really want to get into it, but at the same time, it feels like another college degree.
Yep, it can be quite time consuming :D

Obsidian Icon Folder was renamed to Iconize
How do you get an animated wallpaper, the matrix like wallpaper caught my attention
type "cmatrix" in your terminal :)

Icons are cool, I just use emojis tho lol none of the sync issues
Also a good idea xD
If you like Excalidraw, and you're a developer or otherwise prefer keyboard first workflows, you will LOVE Plant UML. Type your shapes and lines into the editor in a very simple syntax and the PlantUML engine draws great diagrams for you. Need to edit a diagram, edit the text and it updates automatically. Leave the mouse behind.
Thanks Lon, will take a look.
I think Obsidian has built-in support for mermaid. Probably not UML diagrams, but mermaid supports a lot of figure types.

I would prefer zim-wiki. It doesn't have visualisation. But after all it's the best.
Quickadd vs Templater Plugin. Whích is better ?
Templater :D
So because I am a glutton for punishment, I'd totally want to host Obsidian Sync. That's not a thing, is it? I have it running in Docker and would love to have it sync to my phone.
The community plugin 'Self-hosted LiveSync' will do that for you if you set up a docker container with CouchDB

Whats about templater? 😊
Haven’t tried it yet but it seems pretty useful!
Hey ! Moby !

Nice pluckins.
and i was using cherrytree till this day.
It is the best md editor I have used sadly without paying for its own syncing there is no real sync between Linux my dev environment and iPad Pro my portable do it all device
@@Raja.Subramanian I’ll give this a try thanks - is the the obsidian git a plug-in you can get on iOS?
If you are a little tech-affine, which I naively assume, due to the fact, you are on this channel ;), you could set up _syncthing_ on a server and all your devices and just sync the obsidian folder. I paid for Obsidian Sync for the last year but now that it expired, I hesitated to renew. Will go the DIY route with syncthing now.
Plugins are great but they can quickly become about fiddling with settings rather than publishing work.
Por favor hacer un vídeo que indique cómo instalar Obsidian en Android
