"severe allergy to marketing palaver" lol I'm so glad you're an independent reviewer now, I wouldn't have expected that kind of wording from you when you were still partnered with Lego.
I always find it absolutely hilarious when they put so many photos of the real thing in the introductory section of their instruction manuals, and every car you see is a completely different colour to the Lego set that Lego has made based on the car.
Thank you for the review ! This McLaren has many good things. Each cars has it's step up. The Porsche was the first but with complexe gearbox shifting and holes in the body. They fixed it with the Bugatti but it became too heavy for suspension and the gearbox had some issues. They fixed it with the Lamborghini with frame and complexe system for suspension but the issue was it's not a well known car and the suspension doesn't have so much effect. They fixed it with the Ferrari with big new spring but the gear box was now old and it's still not a well known car. Lego finally fix it with great new parts for the gearbox and a famous car. So to resume this P1 has the glory of 1/8 scale, the best gearbox ever, best suspension ever. For the body, only the Porsche and the Bugatti has a charm (and 4 wheels drive). So personally I would build the Bugatti with the new gearbox and the new suspensions to get the best of everything ! (The Ferrari is the worst because it's juste the Lambo with new suspension).
I hope to one day see some more classic cars get the 1:8 treatment. Top of my list are two that have already gotten a lego set; a DeLorean and the creator expert Mustang. Or possibly the absolute curveball of a 1:8 Volvo 245. :D
Another beautifully shot film, well done on your cinematography, this one was particularly epic looking. The music was lovely too. I like your reviews of these super cars, I have no interest in ever owning one, but your reviews are always thoughtful and insightful.
Totally agree with you about the blue pins. I don't understand why they put so much of them, all the more so as most of them are on black pieces, so why not use the smaller black pins ?
I realize that it is expensive for them to produce a mold for a windshield, and it is also difficult to use that windshield for multiplel models. In fact, profit is the key, and the more parts are produced with the same mold, the higher the profit. Like the 2x2 plate for example, I think it's the most profitable one :)
This was my first Lego Supercar model, and will probably be my last for exactly the reason you state - they're all pretty much the same thing. I thought that this transmission would be the nicest and smoothest thanks to all the new shifter parts and available gear ratios, but I feel like they made it way more complex than it needs to be. That said, It looks awesome sitting in my office.
Nice review! For me the biggest problem with the P1s look are the headlights. They look like they are from McLaren 520s or 570s. I'm a Ferrari fan so Daytona is my favorite even though P1 is the best of them. Thank you for your work!
I took a look at how you gave points to the cars based on your star-awarding system, here are the results: Lamborghini Sian has a score of 31/35 Bugatti Chiron has a score of 29/35 Ferrari Daytona has a score of 27/35 Porsche GT3 has a score of 25/35 McLaren P1 has a score of 21/35
Great review, excellent production and camera work. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. But what me interrested me most was "the sgueking" of your model. Mine doesn't make that sound. Please tell me what i did wrong. And what about that buildingtime of 7 hours: that is more than 500 pieces per hour. At that speed building mistakes are prone to happen. Again keep doing your good work.
McLaren P1 is pretty good but F1 LM is legendary. Don't know why Lego went to P1. Hope that diecast manufacturers like AutoArt will release F1 faster than Lego ;)
30:12 Cada did a set of the LaFerrari (it has another name though, maybe for rights reasons ?). It's probably the best looking and accurate model ever.
The P1 the most iconic McLaren? Only if you ignore the F1....I usually wouldn't buy any of these huge sports cars since I just have no place to display them properly, but had this been the F1 LM in this same color, I might have been persuaded....Honestly, I kinda thought of the P1 as mostly forgotten. McLaren keeps pushing out new models in such a fast pace they hardly get the chance to become iconic... As for the set, nothing new indeed, and it's a shame that they seemingly can't be bothered to make some small steps to make things better, like with those blue pins. And I guess there was no budget left for a proper stand for the plaque? The box als seems weird to me: Those flaps make no sense, and why should you take out all three boxes just to get to the instructions? And €450...remember when we got 42055 with more pieces AND Power Functions for half the price? I wish they would pick some more interesting cars that can offer some cool features. Like go for the Citroën SM, and use Pneumatics to replicate its suspension. Or maybe a Mazda RX-7 with rotary engine...oh wait, CaDa just did that. Or why not a Lamborghini LM002? But at least do something different....
32:05 "it's difficult to say what went wrong here" While there's a lot to complain about the front, you did make a very noticeable mistake building the front, swapping the 3-wide tapered panels, which makes it look extra bad!
The more i look at CaDa sets, the less i understand why lego doesnt allow their 18+ sets to be 18+. Less rainbow color pins please, it really does detract from the authenticity of the set.
My problem is that about 90% of the design process, and the pieces in such a set - goes towards nothing but the LOOK of the set. The functionality is over with after about bag three or four - and the rest is just aesthetic design, with a bit of structural engineering thrown in as well. And if you want to buy a Lego set that's primary function is to look good - wouldn't you be better going for a Creator (oops - Icons) set instead? And even then - at this stage, the drive-train mechanism is just copy-pasted from 1:8 car to 1:8 car - there's nothing revolutionary about it (anymore).
When you are paying so much for a set, it needs to be perfect, and this clearly isn't. The insistance of Lego using garish coloured pins, and other parts, that ruin the external look alone keep me from wasting my money. Many other brick brands put far more care in to the finished look of their designs, Lego are just greedy and lazy.
Can't wait for you to make a better MOC than the official one 😂😂😂
Mould king has one way better

keep it up!❤❤❤

The difference between the gear shifters, I think the axle hole is 45° apart from each other
Thank you for the review !

Mine was squeaky too at the beginning, but after playing with it for a few days it’s completely fine now
Authenticity I will give 4 out of 5. View from back is pretty good, side and top view also quite good. Most people can easily recognize it from far.

I like the Lego version way more than the original car!
best intro what i ever seen in video about lego
Rear wheel arch piece is also new for this set.
Thank you!
About the windshield: what do you expect? Foil like the one in the Panigale?
Well, they put solid good-looking windshields on the big-scale Technic bikes, so I can't see why not here.
Thanks for the review. Will you attempt to fix the front end?
Nope.

I'd argue that F1 is more iconic than P1. Other than that, excellent review as always.
It definitely is. The P1 already feels kinda dated while the F1 is timeless.
I took a look at how you gave points to the cars based on your star-awarding system, here are the results:
Lamborghini Sian has a score of 31/35
Bugatti Chiron has a score of 29/35
Ferrari Daytona has a score of 27/35

McLaren P1 has a score of 21/35
Interesting, I was expecting P1 to score better than Daytona, but then I looked at its front end.

F1 would maybe be cool Creator expert set or whatever is it called nowadays. It would deffinitely look great next to my 911. :D
@@oreleecheck Yes, F1 would be good in Creator Expert or Icons line only.
30:12 Cada did a set of the LaFerrari (it has another name though, maybe for rights reasons ?). It's probably the best looking and accurate model ever.
still the Lambo Sian my favorit
Imagine ferrari watching this and seeing that their model is considered a "downgrade" in the entire lineup of 1/8 scale lego cars at (36:17)
I love the intro
The gear shifter differ for 45° axle angle
Big car?
Bet you would complain if gearbox was missing

Whoopsie, sorry about that!
Front hood , 2 panels are back to front ?
Yes, sorry about that.
@@searme no worries , is one way to cover the black parts that should have been yellow , I like your Frank reviews 😀
Thank you!

Yes but how will adults find all the pins if they aren’t blue and red?
As long as the rear end isn’t as fragile as the Ferrari, I nearly throw that set across the room.

Another super car? I honestly stopped caring about them so long ago
Lol lego P1 ran into a wall, it got the same nose as a bulldog XD
Same old, same old. No effort, no innovation, crazy price. Just another set for the hardcore Lego fan, who does not care about other options
Sorry, P1 is definitely not most iconic McLaren road car. McLaren F1 is onehundred percent the most iconic McLaren road car. Sorry
Opinions. We all have them.
@@searme That's right.
