at first i didnt like them changing it to pistol ammo, but after thinking about it while out walking there is all kinds of custom pistol ammo to craft. So can shoot explosive or armor piercing rounds. Also being pistol ammo helps to bring down extra ammo in a pinch from a orbital exchange. Like that the reload is quick!
Yah the workshop ammo might be better. But I'm kind of sad about what we got. I was expecting something really durable and using rifle ammo. Who knows maybe one day.
In the army I sometimes carried an M4 chambered for 9mm so this isn't that unusual to see. They also make a good plinker if you're into sport shooting IRL.
Sure, its not massive damage per shot, and its the first weapon with recoil, but honestly it seems like its only about 50-100 less shote than the other tier 4 guns. If this weapon is about putting out a high number of rounds instead of individual damage per shot it might be worth using the attachment that reduces durability consumed, since the only option for increasing damage boosts critical damage as opposed to bullet damage And it was already fun to make explosive shotgun ammo and go buck wild on a vapor condenser, so I know what I'm going to try out when I next get the chance
for me personally it became a favorite. Not minding the ammo wastage in the late game the only annoying thing is the durability. Cant empty a mag into a wolf just cus that's like half of the durability. And the need to carry 200+ ammo for longer trips just takes a lot of space, an ammo satchel would really be handy. Other than that it really packs a punch and makes the horde from impossible to easy
Nice review! I think the automatic carbine is pretty cool. I'm totally okay with the lesser damage considering it's an automatic. I'll use it as an "oh sh**" weapon. Walk into a polar bear, pack of wolves, stalker etc... at close range and need to spray some rounds to get out of trouble. I think it will have its purpose.
So I have to say that the automatic fire rate IS really fun. I grok what you are saying about the damage for each individual shot, but you put a bear down super fast with no rodeo moves. And still had more ammo if needed in the clip. That is something that many players (most of whom are not as adept at bear dancing as you are) will find very useful. I used one with the sniper 2 alteration and normal pistol bullets and while wandering around prometheus was jumped by a swarm of 6 Dracs. I just kept firing, moving from one target to another and before the clip was empty they were all hosed down. A shotgun (the most powerful weapon with alterations and firing slugs) would not have killed that many so quickly and smoothly. RE the lighter damage - So, you compared it to weapons that feature increased damage above the base damage of the ammo. The chac increases pistol damage by 25% and I think you have the talent to increase it as well. I use the handcannon alteration to increase it by 40% - so these are going to do more damage per shot. Rifles and shotguns also increase the base damage of their projectiles (and rifle bullets and slugs have higher base damage to begin with) so they will be more potent per shot. And I guess they did find/feel that it was too OP if you got 20 fast shots that did that much damage... I think the best metaphor for this is that this is like buffing for speed VS damage. The carbine is your projectile weapon that does many fast attacks that each individually do less damage. Like adding to your knife the attack speed +20% alteration vs the damage +20% alteration (and the foods that do speed vs damage, etc). Either approach will kill, but for some purposes, speed can be more useful. Since it involves ammo, there is a cost in terms of mats that you don't see with a knife however.. It also should be noted that not everyone has the fast reliable aim that you have developed over time. If you can reliably crit with a rifle or trench on almost each shot then they might suffice to put down a bunch of stuff that is rushing you, but that may not be a skill that everyone has developed to such a fine degree. RE the durability, it makes me wonder how many shots you can fire with the pistol, the rifle, and the trench before each of these break? 175 sounds like a reasonable estimate for when they would break as well. I do think you could definitely make the case that, given the weapon relies on its ability to fire rapidly multiple rounds to be effective, that it should have better durability than the other weapons. OR perhaps give players some ability to repair it in the field (instead of breaking it "jams" and you need to do something to clear the mechanism). It would also be nice if/when they get a set of alterations specific to carbines. For instance, if you could put the "handcannon" alteration on it, that would improve the damage nicely - or perhaps an extended magazine for that weapon might increase it to 25 for level 1 and 30 for level 2.... Altogether I like it, but agree it could still be a bit more powerful and durable, without it becoming too OP. I'm wondering what buffs slices of cake may bring! Kind of cool to think a 3 year anniversary is coming up. I do encourage everyone who has not joined to consider trying out the discord (link is in the description) and reaching out to any friends who play Icarus to let them know about the discord and the LNC channel. I know my Icarus experience has been vastly enhanced by finding the great community that Josh and Dee have built on discord - and getting to see these updates - much nicer way to take in the changes than wading through the text. Cheers! JW
That is a well though out response! Good call out on the CHAC boosting damage; expecting a crafted weapon to be on par or better than its workshop equivalent weapons is iffy to be honest. And there is only one workshop pistol so they if they added more we might find out the CHAC was best in class... I think people are forgetting that we have gear and ammo types that apply status effects on a per attack basis. Guess what? If I fire off 20 ammo and they each have their own 15% chance of activating a status effect; I'm going to see that status effect more often than if I'm only firing off 5ish ammo with another weapon. Right now it kinda doesn't matter if you apply status effects or not (except against armored enemies) but we can't say it's going to stay that way forever? It would make sense if new enemies needed to be directly countered with one of the status aliments/elements that have been introduced.
@@x13ankh Well i havent tried it yet but considering it only takes Rifle alterations and its still considered a Rifle it should benefit from the Rifle talent tree - im 20 titanium away (to craft it) to find out for sure ugh (cuz i have rifle talents maxed)
at first i thought it wasnt too special when i heard it uses pistol ammo, but after some time to stew in the back of my head I think its going to be great to have easy access to the ammo from workshop making it more acessable in a pinch. Also its great that it can fit the alternations. The durability feels very much like the bad durability like rusts weapons wich im not a big fan of.
A better comparison would be to see how the rifle and trench shot gun hold up after shooting 175 rounds of basic ammo (and how long it takes each with reloads). I don't think every weapon needs to be good for horde mode TBH. I think there are more situations in the game were you want to engage an enemy from distance than the face hugging constraints of horde mode and it seems like the boss focus of Great Hunts is going to full of those situations (where you might want to pump out damage as quick as possible on a single target).
hmm also the new weapon doesnt have any talents conncected to it so i think thats why it does less dmg. With all kinds of custom ammo i think its going to be fun to use even for brief moments. I was hoping for 30-60 round mag and punching down boss hitpoints faster than other weapons.
@@LateNightStream I was just joking but yeah. clips are usually used for guns like the M1 Garand, or the Mauser K98. Mags are used for most modern rifles
You could try verifying the files, or a fresh reinstall of Icarus if all your drivers (chipset & GPU) are up tp date. That said they did say last weeks update about GeForce drivers being wonky and reverting back to an older version.
It's better than you let on just because the ammo is 1 gunpowder instead of 5 , economy wise it's a cheap wolf popper than rifle , i use it to take down small game.
Id rather do more damage and use a gun that lasts much longer. Also its only 2 gunpower with the crafting perk Rifle Reduction. Pistol with the talent Pistol Proficiency is still 1. So it will take you several pistol bullets for what the rifle can do with 1 usually, not to mention missed shots and waste, and it breaks MUCH MUCH faster... and I didn't even go into the sneak crit multipliers. Once you get to endgame honestly gunpower is trivial, but the damage and durability don't lie. But hey use what you want. It's still bad.
What do you think about them changing the weapon last min? Will you use this weapon? Comment Below!
@@LateNightStream if they make the recepie cheaper then definitely yes 👍
thanks for doing these weekly updates :))

I'm not even sure it will last one horde mode sadly. Maybe ill test it this week.

You can 1-2 shot a bear with a rifle also though. Looking forward to next weeks update also! Thanks as always John for Watching!

not sure why they didnt go for submachine gun if its taking pistol ammo. As thats the definition of a sub machine gun

can you use the trail beacon to measure 20m?
yah its possible once you have it unlocked
Would had preferred if the carbine used platinum instead of titanium for a cheaper option compared to the rifle!
I agree. 100%
I didnt like the new automatic BB's carabine, still using the "red" lune crossbow
Lol BB Carbine
Is there any new augments specific to this weapon?
There is not. Its considered a rifle.
pew pew pew pew :)

Uma excelente arma, facil fabricar ,mas quando se tem a besta de titânio, não quero usar outros brinquedos 😂.
Yah that’s a good bow for sure
😉👍
Look I know it's a game but the gun health should be more. Absolutely ridiculous a small AR breaks after a few clips
Yah here's to hoping its just a new item to the game and they will work on balancing. Its really weak as far as durability. .
Wheres the clip? I just see magazines
