I’m actually working on this very pattern. Thank you for the tips about the glue. I actually pin my basket to the fabric and I don’t use the fuse able paper either. I will be trying the glue method is a life saver Thanks !
Olivia you did a fantastic job on this tutorial. I am so glad that I found the apliquick method in your previous video. By far it is my favorite method. So glad you are selling the products too!!
I’ve tried many different methods of appliqué over the years but had not heard of this one until your videos. I’ve been mostly cross stitching the last few years. My tools arrived yesterday and I’m really looking forward to trying this method! Thank you! (Maybe I’ll get some of my appliqué wips done )🤗
Thank you. I see what I have been doing wrong, cutting too wide of a margin to turn under. I met the creator of the Appliquick tools several years ago at the Paducah quilt show. She was doing the such tine circles, more like dots. Amazing. I purchased my tools from her. Thank you again for this tutorial Ordered some of the paper from you and will try cutting smaller margins.
Ok I must try Olivia. I’ve been collecting the supplies since last year. Need the tools for turning so maybe I can get those soon. Thread, scissors coming next week and I actually found this book for the baskets!😁🩵
I have done a large queen size applique quilt using appliquik. The appliquik materials became very soft-I wet each block after it was made prior to sewing the quilt together ( pre wash your fabric) which softened them up. After quilting the quilt was just as soft as if I had done my traditional needleturn. My only issue with doing a large quilt was the sheer expense of the applique product.
Thanks for taking the time to do this tutorial. You may have done one in the past or I could have imagined that but anyway…I just ordered the rods and stabilizer. I am set on everything else. Yay can’t wait! Happy New Year!
Thank you Olivia - very helpful! I like this method up to the hand sewing part - LOL!!! Can you do a straight stitch on the very edge by machine instead?
Hi Peggy! The paper is like fusible web in the way that it irons onto and stays with the fabric. It is more like a paper, though, if you were to hold it in your hand. The helpful part of that is that it makes it easier to trace templates onto it, like you do with freezer paper.
Do you use stabilizer on the background fabric? Do you remove stabilizer or freezer paper from your design piece that goes on background fabric? Enjoyed your video!
@@leandrawalker4242 No, I don't use stabilizer on the background fabric. I use the Apliquick fusible stabilizer on the applique pieces. That does not get removed. Thanks!
Great demo. Thanks so much. I was wondering if you take extra stitches on areas that have just a few threads? Using your pattern, it would be in the center "V" of your basket triangle. I've been procrastinating working on the border of my Civil War Bride quilt, so I can't wait to try Apliquick. Those areas with just a few threads to turn under give me pause. 😂 ❤
Hi Susan, I do make sure I secure those areas with a stitch. Do you use needle turn? How do you handle the inside points? I'd love to see your Civil War Bride quilt!!
@@OliviaBFlosstube I was taught to use the starch turn method (10 yrs ago) and do take an extra stitch at those deep V's. I've completed the quilt blocks but now the borders.
@susangriffin7411 That's exciting!! I should have pointed out the extra stitch in those videos, thanks for bringing up that point. I'll mention it in the next video. With the starch method, you clip the inside points too, right? I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on a better method!
@@OliviaBFlosstube You are correct, same clipping method. I think Apiliquick might make these areas more secure. I have the tools, bought at quilt show, but will order the paper. Thanks again very helpful!
Hi Lynn, no, it doesn't dissolve, the paper stays in. I haven't machine quilted or washed a quilt with the paper in it yet. I'm currently in the process of hand quilting one. I've read that washing it will soften the paper, but I can't speak to it myself yet, sorry.
So, I get how this works, however, isn't it faster to just do needlturn? All of these steps before it even gets sewn down seems like a lot. I love the fabric that you used for the basket, you have given me renewed interest in this basket quilt, i started it a LONG time ago.....
Hi Mary, good question! I think you get some of that time back when you're sewing the piece down. Your time is invested more in the prep. That being said, I think it's all about what you're most comfortable with. This is the way that I enjoy doing it, and I'm more about the process than the speed. I can't claim that Apliquick is faster than any other method Thanks for watching!
Great video and very helpful! Looks fun!
Thanks, Marilyn!

Thank you so much for this video. I used to applique but have not done any in a long time. This makes me want to get them back out.
I hope you do!
Thanks I had no idea how these tools worked. Amazing!
Such a great tutorial!! Thank you for doing this! I can't wait to use my new tools!
Thanks, Olivia! I'm so glad you liked it! And I'm so excited to finally start the Raven!!
Very nicely done tutorial!

I'm glad it helped! I ran into the same issue when I first started using them. I was so used to needing a quarter inch seam allowance.

I'm so excited for you!!! I carry the tools in my shop if you decide to take the plunge. I hope you have a blast!!
Yes I think all I need are the rods👍. thank you.

This is really great to hear. Thank you, Donna!! I do wish the paper was less expensive.

This is a fantastic tutorial, Olivia! I’m in. ❤
I'm so excited, Jody!!!! I can't wait to see what you make!!
Thank you for this tutorial! I really needed a refresher and this video was just perfect! Happy New Year!!🎊🎆🎈
You're very welcome! Happy New Year!
Thank you! Figuring out ( and then remembering!) the orientation of the pattern pieces is the most confusing for me!
My pleasure, Connie!
Love this! Thank you so much. I had this basket pattern and I think I deleted it. Now I have the digital book ordered from C&T. Happy New Year!

I'm sure you could apply the prepared pieces by machine, but to be honest, I'm not sure what stitch you would use. Thanks!
Is'nt this paper just like basic fusible web ? Good video. I always use freezer paper as my template.

Thanks, Louise! I haven't tried that before.

Is it lite wt
Leaving paper in, what happens when quilted and finished? Does the paper dissolve? Thanks for your reply.

Also, the appliquik specific glue seems thinner and your needle won’t get “ gummy”
