- The last year has been an incredible roller coaster ride for Hawaii's Aaron Gold. Up until last January few outside of his tight-knit big-wave community knew of him. January 15, he made his name known when he stroked into one of the biggest monsters of the day at Jaws. Four months later Gold was the victim of a life-threatening wipeout at Cloudbreak. The details of that day were slow to emerge, until now.

love this. for the record, my name is also Aaron, God put surfing in my life 6 years ago. in that time, commitment to His plan has bred a man determined to be the surfer, and the man I was born to be. Jaws is on my radar. I don't know how, but I plan to surf it, and live to surf it again -and survive that too. because putting anything less than my best into what God gave me would be a cop-out. no matter how late I started. thank you for lighting the way!

Great Story with fantastic results. I TOO HAVE ALMOST DIED THERE SEVERAL TIMES. I have been fortunate enough to enjoy my favorite location on the planet== and it's amazing inhabitants-- 31 trips. Many for 2 weeks. I have never been skunked. 1 trip was patchy. Other than that== all good to overly amazing. But Cloudbreak is no joke. For people like me with many sessions under our belts== we have too often avoided paying the check. I can speak for many who SHE HAD LAID THE PAYMENT DUE HAMMER ON SO VERY UNEXPECTEDLY== For me, it was never my surfing that got me into trouble. It was the swingwides. Oh, and for those people who do not believe in God. Every trip after I had some under my belt== the FNGs want to probe with questions and advise. I would look at them when they started to ask the deeper questions as to when CLOUDBREAK TURNS UP, AND ON WITH SIZE AND POWER-- this is when they are getting to the core. I look them straight in the eye, and ask them 1 question. Are you a religious man?? Usually their head will snap back and eyes of questioning as to why that question was asked. That is when I give it a good pause time, and just simply say== "When Cloudbreak gets BIG AND OR PISSY you become religious real quickly.' So from all of my friends, and I speak for many that have experienced the PAYMENT IS DUE FROM WAY BACK--- We are just so happy to be able to tell our stories. Right Eddy? Saxon? Treasure? But if I had to die== I could pick no better place to end this awesome ride that God has put me on. Hell I was born in OKLA. I am so far ahead most of you guys, who were born in paradise. I had to be an escapee to get in the water. Bula to all My Friends on Tavarua. Miss you all so much== TroubleMaka OUT.

Why can't they wear a small oxygen tank on their back, for emergencies? Something like a 10-15 minute supply. It wouldn't be so big and bulky I think.
