I have to laugh...when I read those comments about Elaine and Michael. This is so good and flawless ! I am a singer myself and this Chess at his best.......
This is fantastic - I'm a rabid MB fan and I thought nothing could beat the OLC recording of You and I, but this does. Why, why, WHY have they only recorded one song together (and an unremarkable Christmas song at that)! They seriously need to get back in the studio.
Absolutely brilliant!! One of my favourite songs from Chess!! And beautifully sung by 2 of my favourite singers!! Would love to have seen them together in a musical in the West End!! Sighs!!
Nothing says lungs like Elaine Paige on this live performance. I do think Tommy K has a slight edge by the age over Ball. But I am amazed, agog all those things at the sheer power of the performance! WOW!
So the ring has ended; Susan's performance makes millions surf RUclips and discover great music; Elaine Paige gets new attention! Did you know that Elaine performed in the first ABBA musical named "ABBACADABRA" in 1983 already? Yes, based on ABBA songs, looong before Mamma Mia! and even before "Chess", (which this song is from)! And who was behind [the script of] ABBACADABRA? The composers of "Les Miserables"! Now, let's hope the ABBA composers make a movie out of 'Chess' instead of a MMsequel
@chickenzrule tru dat! Michaels BIG BALLSY BOMBASTIC voice is fine for those BIG (boring) Webber notes but, he CAN'T HANDLE the nuance and depth that CHESS requires. I've seen CHESS on broadway & tons of college & community choirs doing Chess. and NOBODY BUT NOBODY not even the adorable/smooth&sweet Josh Grobin, comes close to TOMMY! HE DA MAN
wow! He is second best, on this one..not bad! When you heard Tommy nail this song - Its just kareoke from others! -sorry... Even Elain had to do her max, or crumble beside him. But she managed.. so well...
mlchàelball the best way to be a few months ago but I don't know if you have to be a few days ago and time I've been looking at the first time I had to be the best way I don't know what to be the best way is my resume for a few months ago and the best and I will I don't know how to be a few months and time for sure you will be a few months ago I am I had to be the same here the best way is my resume for you have the best and I am I don't know if you will be the best way is to be the same here the first time I don't know if you have to be the first throughout the same pppp I don't you and the best I don't you have a place to do it I don't be a few months ago I am I don't know how the same here I had the best way is to be the first time I am be mechanical engineering in electronics and the first time for you will
I am not a fan of Ball but I have to say his voice blended particularly well with Page, in this number. Yes! he did sing endang but they both, annoyingly, sang our-wer at the end instead of our using the U vowel. They did, however, both sing ' hearts desire' without going onto the temptation of making it desire-er, often a fault with singers with such words as fire-yer.
LOVE THIS DUET SO MUCH BUT IT IS SPOILED BY MICHAEL'S "ENDANG" INSTEAD OF ENDING. WATCH THE BARITONE, LEONARD WARREN, HE SINGS THE "I" VOWEL WITH THE MOUTH IN A SMILE & THE MOUTH ALMOST CLOSED. LEARN FROM LEONARD!
Ok, Elaine isn't bad but she has a quite annoying nasal voice. I think she has a really good diction in the way she sings. But this orchestra arrangement was terrible, and Michael Ball's voice (as several people has already pointed out) isn't well suited for the music in Chess. Tommy Körberg is soo much better suited to perform Benny's music (after all he wrote it for him to perform as he has done with lots of his music.) and he does it way better than any other I've heard or seen doing Chess.
I'm in heaven. I could listen to this forever. Musical theatre at its best.
Two power houses of British Musical theatre - outstanding
Elaine page has a magical voice! Nice duet.
Absolutely stunning sung by two superb singers, brilliant.
Happy
Perfection! My all time favorite show, Michael Ball is my favorite, Elaine Paige, one of my favorites.....Thanks for posting!!!!
Flawless performance from two giants of musical theatre.
Beautiful ! Saw CHESS in London, 1986 . Love this Musical. .... what a Great job Elaine Paige and Michael Ball deliver!
Elaine Paige puts them all in the shade. Her voice is just unbelievable. Love her!!!!
All I can say is "WOW"!!!!! Elaine IS unbelievable
Elaine's voice sounds particularly incredible here!
Spine tingling performance from exceptional performers.
Elaine Paige and Michael Ball are awesome together singing xxx 🎤🎤🎤🎤❤️💙

glorious voices.
Oh my god E.P and M.B doing a brilliant version both these voices send shivers up my spine
Beautiful!!!
Excellent voices and a strong performance.

Wow. Both of them. I just... wow. I love Chess, but always found this song boring. But seeing it performed live. Wow.
Absolute wonderful
Elaine's voice in this is amazing...........at the height of her powers here.
JUST Beautiful!!! Come to Canada!! BRAVO!!!!
THIS is how this wondeerful song should be sung!
most perfect pairing
Dear Michael!!!!! Love those soft curls, blue eyes and charm!!!!!
Elaine is a gift from God.

what a pair!
Fantastic - la Paige rules!!
I would love to hear them sing I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You
Great version.
Dear Michael: I am so smitten with you!!!!!!
Fabulous version of a great song! There is simply no match for Elaine Page!
marvelous....
Has Michael ever been to Germany? Does anybody know that. He is so wonderful!
Michael Ball sings it better than any version, others usually over act and scream because they do not have the range or control.
When was this recorded or on tv? Anyone know? EP looks amazing

Hear, hear!
Despite the fact that Michael is a damned good singer, no one can sing this song like Tommy Korberg!
Completely agree. I really think that Kerry would have been a MUCH better Florence that Idina - who I really didn't think was that great.
I grudgingly have to agree.
Elaine Page brought me here. I never heard of Susan Boyle...
what year was this?
Sunday radio2 morning 11 oclock MICHAEL 1PM Elaine brillant
Not sure what wording they have changed as this is identical to the orignal concept album version.
There already is a Chess movie made :)

Tommy is a much better singer than MB. But Elaine is great in this.

There's something wrong with your hearing, mate. :D
