    Here’s a screenprinting educational video about why plastisol inks can sometimes fail to bond to a white under base. This type of situation could occur anytime you are over printing plastisol ink onto plastisol ink that has been flash cured on press. It doesn’t always happen but it’s a possibility whenever you flash on press and over print that flashed ink. Why does this happen and how can you prevent it? This video discusses the topic briefly as we extend our discussion of flash curing on your screen printing press when you are printing tee shirts. This video is specifically about plastisol inks and you may have never experienced this problem yourself. But it’s a great tutorial that can help you better understand how to flash cure on press. If you’re printing a multi colored job with a flash cure and you have seen the plastisol ink printed on the white under base come off in the laundry, then this video is a must see. So take a few minutes and watch this tutorial video about screen printing t-shirts and learn more about flashing on press during printing. You’ll learn some valuable tips that will make your screen print life much easier. Thanks for watching and enjoy the video!

    Do you experience when printing a white base P/F/P/F and print a blue on top, especially on sweats, little white dots showing through the blue? White screen: 156 Blue screen: 230 - 156 Not a problem on Ts usually so it must be the quality of the base/white ink being used. Union Eclipse (short body which sucks) White dots can happen with other colors too but much more noticeable with the blues.

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 года назад +2

      Usually that would indicate the under base not being smooth enough. The white dots are lows in the under base where the blue was not able to fill them in. So you can either do a smoother under base or use a lower mesh count for the blue allowing for more ink flow which should fill in those lows. Thanks for watching! 5:58 if I flash cured and not semi-cured. Will heating the shirt to 400 help? What temp is a semi-cure? I had a job where almost every shirt washed out (white on white) and I cured (final cure) at 340

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  Месяц назад

      Semi cured is "flash cured." The purpose of flash curing is to dry the plastisol ink to the touch and no more. Screen printing is often not so exact. I cannot tell you an exact temp that will work for you. Experience matters here. It depends on how much ink you actually print. That will determine how long you need to flash or final cure. The brand of ink may also be important. Usually plastisol ink needs to be heated to about 330 degrees F. If the entire ink layer does not reach that temp, it will wash out. I have 1 or 2 or more videos that will help you understand curing plastisol inks.

    QUESTION: Is over curing a greater problem when using a single station press because the platen does NOT have time to cool down and the heat of repeated flashing over heats the platen so the print is being heated from the top & bottom? Wouldn't use of a 4 or 6 station press solve this problem?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, absolutely. With a rotary press, this should be less likely. But sometimes over longer runs on a rotary press we can see heat build up especially in aluminum pallets which will shorten the flash cure time. You always have to be on the ball ;) Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

    Can you tell me if you have a wash away ink - that is you will screen print a design onto a cotton fabric - then once stitched with a cotton thread the ink will wash away once washed. Do you know of an ink where this process will happen. Thank you

    Very educational video. I'm just beginning to learn the basics of screen printing. I'm guessing that less is better than more when it comes to flashing. Out of curiosity, what would happen if you didn't do any flashing during the printing with multiple screens / multiple colours?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 года назад

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed. Yes, less is more. You do not want to actually cure the ink when flashing. Sometimes we can print wet on wet. It depends on exactly what you are printing and the inks involved. Also printing wet on wet is usually much easier on an automatic press rather than a manual. Autos are very consistent. Thank you for your videos. They are all very informative. I'm starting off very noobish. Is the final cure in the belt oven important. I do not have a belt oven, but I do have a flash dryer. Is there another way around that? Thank you for your time sir

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 года назад +1

      You're very welcome. Glad I can help out through them. The final cure is critical no matter how you achieve it. It can be done with a flash cure but it will take some meticulous exactitude in curing each print 1 by 1. I have a video about this. You can find it in my uploads. Just search my videos for curing with a flash. That should pull it up. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

    Is there a way to restore and reuse old plastisol inks

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 года назад +1

      That depends on why it needs restoring. Meaning, if it has reached about 150 degrees F and has gelled, then no. If it's a little old, thick and the plasticizer has separated, then yes. Simply mix it thoroughly. But if you're concerned always do a test print and wash test to determine if the ink is still usable. Thanks for watching!
