Okay, so, I had a binge eating disorder. it was tied to stress and needing comfort. I went on Ozempic as treatment for daily migraines (yes, it helps some people with that), and the side effect was suddenly not thinking about food all the time (this was before the Ozempic craze).
I started losing weight. My insulin sensitivity improved and, as a result, my efforts to lose weight had an effect.
But I knew I couldn't stay on it. I knew I would need better coping mechanisms for the future. So I asked myself, well, if I couldn't eat, say I had surgery the next day and suddenly got stressed but I'd been told not to eat beforehand, what would I do to ease the stress instead?
And so while taking Ozempic, I used that time to deeply look into the reasons why I use for food comfort, what I can do instead, and develop strategies.
Now, a year after being off it, 30kg lighter, I have maintained my weight and my healthy lifestyle. I make a cup of tea when I feel stressed, or watch stand-up comedy. I still get stressed, because it's not possible not to, but I have better coping mechanisms now, and seek dopamine through things like reading, comedy, or seeking out hugs when I need one (and I am NOT a hugger).
It can be done but you have to allow the person time, and they need access to either therapy or some good RUclips videos or just self reflection, but they need to be aware of what causes the eating disorder and that they can and do have the power to live differently. But it absolutely can be done.
Ozempic changed my life because it allowed me the space in my mind to do that for myself.

I lost 40 pounds on a liver detox based first over about 4 months. Went from 215 to 175. I’m 6’ tall, athletic build. I maintained that weight for 2 years until I began intermittent fasting, one meal at lunch with protein bars/drinks for other meals. Dropped down to 150 after fasting on/off for 3 months. Body fat percentage at around 10%. I also take multivitamin, probiotics, B12 and nitric oxide supplements. I am now going to the gym to rebuild to a healthier weight/physique through weights and a balanced diet. I’m 64 and feel great!

I was tired of bad news every 6 months for my metabolic checkup. Left the Doc’s office & decided if eating too much made me fat, the opposite had to be absolute. Toyed with intermittent fasting and chose Carnivore/one meal per day. Lost 60 lbs in 8 months and have maintained my weight at 205. I am very happy with that. No more diabetic med’s, now have a normal glucose level.

A 59 year old life long beer and booze enthusiast with a brewery in my garage just stopped. I lost 60lbs on Atkins, Keto, Ketovore, Carnivore. I'm thinking carnivore may have been the trigger for the loss of desire for alcohol.

The weight slowed greatly after the second week to a crawl. I found some research on how eating carbs is not only essential on these drugs, but also going too low carb on it can do long term damage. I added a little carbs like Japanese sweet, a little fruit daily, beans and lentils and the my weight loss kicked up greatly. Food for thought!! Good luck to you. I’m down nearly 40 lbs!

@@jimbeaver27 I’ve been working keto for about 5 years, but the carb addiction is way strong. The battle in the brain has not let me make it to the 6 month point without a fall. I’m hopeful that the Ozempic will help me with the “food noise” so that I can gain success and some brain healing. Once I get some brain healing, I’m hopeful to get off the Ozempic. If you don’t understand severe addiction, you won’t understand me. Addiction can be managed with abstinence in many cases, but 40 years of addiction is pretty severe. I didn’t understand it as addiction until 5 years ago. When it’s this severe, the battle in the brain is relentless. It’s no longer just about willpower.

I wasn't really trying to stop taking drugs(both kinds), drinking, or smoking cigarettes but that's what happened when I started taking it. Two years in I realized I needed to get into therapy and "do the work". These drugs that deal with executive function are a black box. I'm still on mine but six years in I regret not taking things like talk therapy more seriously ten years ago. I might not have ever needed a mood stabilizer. I work out/do therapy 5 hours/day. I don’t sleep much due to pain and eating and working out are the only two places I get pleasure. When I was 12, I was sexually abused by my mom’s brother and I became anorexic and learned to binge eat as a coping mechanism. This video explains why food is still my go to comfort drug. I am dairy free carnivore for 5 years now and I still struggle with the addiction to the behavior of eating. Any suggestions?

i cannot go carnivore as I love vegetables too much. My happiest meals are a big spread of Indian homecooked vegetables and dal. The idea of eating only meat makes me feel unwell. i tried fasting but it took too much headspace. I was constantly thinking about food and eating, it was really getting obsessive. But I'm in my mid fifties and getting heavier and i need a solution.

THE FOOD NOISE IS GONE. ZERO. I have my life back. I don't care if I have to take this forever and take out a loan to use it! I clearly have a brain imbalance that needs bolstering. I feel normal now.
I enjoy small amounts of all types of food now. If I have to take this forever, fine. I suffer without it, even on keto. The food noise is insanity.

My buddy's been on ozempic for her diabetes ~ a year. She's lost 60 pounds and is now too slim, I think. She's a fabulous cook, but doesn't even feel like being in the kitchen. The real difference is, she's stopped drinking. I'm on a ketovore, very low carb diet and have lost 25 pounds in 10 weeks. I've stopped drinking also. It appears to me that by dropping carbs, over a very short time the unhealthy habits fall away.

    Sugar acts like alcohol
And no one is talking about concentrated glutamate or msg. B6 is needed to convert glutamate to GABA. I've noticed the RDA for B6 increase the last few years. Max recommended was 100 mg, now its 200mg. Id like to know how many mg of B6 does it take to convert 1 mg of glutamate to 1 mg of GABA. And then how much glutamate is in the concentrated version msg. How much is in a Chik-fil-a sandwich?? Super addictive. What are the effects of a B6 deficiency?
MSG also clogs up the liver. Its the hfcs of glutamate and should be banned, in all its names.
    Theres food, whole food.
Then there's food drugs. Get off the food drugs.
And research rat park. Its what she's talking about.
Excellent video. She restores my faith in doctors, some doctors.

The answer after a few weeks of thinking about it, and a potential hit to my budget is a definite no. Quick fixes short term up front are appealing, however, there is too much uncertainty on the backend of this drug.

I've lost almost 70 lbs. on this medication. It's an absolute miracle! I was pre-diabetic, I have a history of stroke and heart attacks in my family, and I was a chronic dieter with no success. I'm 51 and premenopausal. There is no way I could have gotten these results taking supplements or just exercising. I do not think about food. It's goes beyond appetite suppression. I no longer obsess about food, and I eat when I'm hungry, just much smaller amounts. Eliminating food groups, like carbs, is not sustainable and sets people up to binge. Keto is not sustainable long-term. My relationship with food is completely different, and that is what has changed.

@@cherriethomas9538 I am not on maintenance yet as I have 10 -15 more pounds I'd like to lose. I will not stop taking it, I will just not take it as often. For someone that has struggled most of my life with a food addiction, this has been an absolute game changer. I eat whatever I want, just very small amounts. I do not drink or even crave alcohol. I also just don't have any of the carb cravings like I use to, so I'm not tempted to eat sweets or things like French fries. If I do feel like having something more decadent, I'm good with a bite or two, I do not feel the urge to eat the entire thing. It's truly changed my life and I feel great.
