- WATCH THIS BEFORE STARTING AMAZON
This was a video I've been thinking about making for a while, so it feels really good to finally be able to upload it. This is a real view of my day to day at amazon and what it would be like for you.
Let me know what you guys want to see next!
I purposefully choose smalls every day. I love it, i usually am all over the place in smalls if I’m not picking. I do what I see needs to be done to make work go smoothly for myself and my coworkers
Do they let everyone choose where they go?
@@18matts the one I worked at it was randomized meaning everytime you clocked in you would scan yo badge and it will tell you where you’re stationed for the day
At my Fulfillment Center when you walk in the front door past the security desk then the HR desk and next to HR is a large white board with the Stow and Pick AM's names assigned to the various floors and you're supposed to go to the floor your AM is assigned to. There's also another section next to the floors for Labor Share and if they have any Labor Share available if you're trained in THAT department you can ignore the floor your AM is on and go directly to the Labor Share department. If you DON'T go to the department you will likely get a message that pops up on your screen soon after you log in telling you to log off and report to the department
I’ve been at a sortation center for almost 9 mos. You described it perfectly!!!
is it the same thing as package sorter? im looking for a job im 16 yk i just don’t want to regret doing package sorter
@@adrianruiz3356 u gotta be 18 to work at amazon bro
This doesn't seem as bad as stowing. All of the jobs at Amazon are repetitive. I quit last year but now I need a side job so I'm returning as a sorter.
I started “working” 2 weeks ago, I never got the chance to actually work inside due to an issue on their end . I still get paid for those days. I’m just anxious to learn my job!
Lol you gon be un-anxious after the first week 😭 it’s truly an annoying job. But it pays so stay there as long as you can and make it bearable for yourself
@@EdwinLaCroix Kmsl man don’t say that . I got part time soo I won’t be there but 5 hrs a day. I think I’m worried about the people rather thank the job ….. ohhhh , what do flex up and down mean?
@@annadarshay4704 how’s it going ?
What time of job is cool to do for couple of hours like for 3-4 hours
@@annadarshay4704 you still alive?
I’ve been at STL5 for about 7 months, I quite enjoy it. But I must say, if you don’t know how to zone out and “vegetate” for awhile, this may not be the job for you. I don’t recommend it, but bringing headphones is a game changer. I will also recommend once you get the initial scanning hours over… GET TRAINED SOMEWHERE ELSE. Don’t have to deal with shitty pallets, don’t have to meet annoying rates.. and see a learning ambassador
Couldn’t have said it better
I work at UPS in one of their huge hubs and just got hired on for Amazon (hence checking out your video to know a little more what to expect there.) But I had a good laugh when you were talking about desks, mattresses, and dog food. 😆 My guy, I feel your pain! I bitch about those things regularly. Spot on that those dog food packages are flimsy as hell! Don't know how many, if any auto parts you guys get coming through at your hub, but god damn, those are the bane of my existence at UPS. "Oh look, it's just a tiny box coming down the belt", yeah, a tiny box that weights 50lbs! Anyway, appreciate the video my man. 🙏😊
Lmao, Worked a fedex years ago and fucked my hand up trying to palm what i thought was a small maybe 0.5 box...turned out to be a small 70lb box, dropped it and sprained the ligaments in my hand.
Your video is 100% true lol I work only inbound and outbound! I just got the word I’ll be training for a training ambassador! Thanks for the video! :)
I worked in sortation for about a year and a half and I believe the location matters, because they might do things differently. Myself and a lot of coworkers hate sortation. No longer do you pick what you are doing. They assign everyone differently daily and it hurts the ones that cant do or expect certain jobs. In the line just pulling boxes to your spot, packing them into pallets or crates for waterspiders to wrap and move after is okay, except during peak season where you will get bombarded with packages so much that your aisles are blocked. Inbound is really harsh on your body especially if you are older. Inbound removing boxes from trucks was the worse for me. During covid, they only allowed one person in the trailer and most of the time, other warehouses would put super heavy boxes on top. A big no no. So you would have to do it alone, even though you're supposed to ask for help with heavy boxes. They don't allow help because of covid. People got hurt and were in pain daily because heavy boxes would fall on them. I was also a learning ambassador, and did more work then everyone else but got paid the same. I should have just stayed a normal employee. To those who are thinking about working at sortation, its really labor intensive and hard work. If you're comming out of high school that should be fine, but anyone else who is a bit older, I wouldn't recomend it.
I thought sortation was suppose to be easier than fulfillment. Is that not true?
@@gritsnwavy3059 it depends on what you're doing honestly. I'm working at one now and I don't find it bad at all. I will say that it's getting a little hectic now that we're in peak season. There's one section so far that I refuse to go to so any time they ask I say no.
I'm a Learning Ambassador at COS5 Sort. When I'm not walking day 1's through the center, I'm usually training Day 2's in Staging, Water Spider, or Non Con. I like Staging the best. Non Con isn't bad when it's not peak. Scanning Mechlite or Linear sucks, but not as much as Water Spider Base wrapping hurts this old man's knees. Oddly enough, I've only worked Fluid/Inbound twice, Falcon eye for about a week, and never got trained in Problem Solving.
You left out how heavy the metal bedframes are. That's the part I hate about Non Con.
Fun fact, I had a Day 1 quit on me in the middle of a tour when we passed Mechlite D where the rollers were jammed up, boxes falling, people tripping over each other, just a mass of confusion. This girl saw that and said "Nope, I'm not doing that" and walked out.
i seen that happen before too 😂😂😂
My first day of training was that I was the last person with the tablet.
"Just go to the store, buy at the store"
I felt this, I think this every day lmao
Lmao we are in a generation of laziness. That's why more and more stores are being added to Instacart. It used to just be groceries. Now they have Sephora and other specialty stores.
Dog food and bottled water will always ruin my day. Half of the shit I get in problem solve is huge fucking bags of dog food
@@tylerrose4416 and cat litter!
I want to just unload trucks. Starting on the 20th as a side gig, so hoping they just let me unload and get through my shifts. I don’t want to have to think in a warehouse job 😅
Pipe down bruh…that vest don’t give you no power! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Literally the next day I had to go scan smh
Are you allowed to listen to music
@@deezy2161 it depends on who your manager is and what you doing. You really just gotta be able to hear. But 8 times outta 10 they gon make you take your earbuds out.
@@EdwinLaCroix They told me to take them out, but I always put them straight back in. I don't think they really cared, they just had to say it.
I do it and it's not really that bad.
if you’re buying cat food and dog food or bed frames just know you deserve what’s coming to you
Cat litter, boxes of paper, and cases of water. Seriously people, why are you buying cases of water from Amazon?
Lol I BUY cat food from amazon 😭😭😂😂
@@82ndAbnVetEspecially the Essential water! They have no reason being that heavy!
Today is my day 3 at a sortation center, and so far it seems like pretty easy work, though it is very repetitive and involves a lot of walking. I wish I found your video before I started working because all the other Amazon warehouse videos are mainly about FCs and not sortation centers. And those videos make FCs out to be absolute hell, so it was refreshing to see that isn't the case at a sort center.
are you allowed to wear ear buds while you unload the truck if so that'd be fire
I work at Sortation Center Warehouse, it's very easy, I mostly like inbound and none-con, but dislike outbound.
LOL! 🤣🤣🤣😁 I'm gonna get you a scanner for your birthday, and also one for Christmas LOL! 🤣🤣🤣😁 ... I couldn't resist, I really enjoyed your video, Thank you.
Was that the adult swim logo in the thumbnail?
Yea , I don’t know if you remember the Adult swim trend on TikTok but I did TikTok’s at work lol I forgot to put them in this video. If people want a part 2 I’ll put them in
@@EdwinLaCroix oh yeah, also did you recorded some of the first days cuz I’d like to see that in a 2nd part too
Scanning is for the old ladies😂😂😂 that’s me🤓
😊😊😊😊 it work
I’m ok with scanning
Thanks man. I'm starting in PA in a few days. I've always ran forklifts and I appreciate your input
I used to work outbound at FedEx ground... this looks so so easy compared to fedex.
Thanks so much! Articulate, through and informative!!
awsome quality video this deserves way more views
Yea. I don’t like inbound or outbound. Scanning is fine Ws staging are my favorite Jobs
Desks, dogfood and mattresses OH MY! 😁😁 Thank you so much for sharing!
I heard the chewy boxes are the killers.
i just started and the job where you have to push off the letter to the right lane, that seems really tough. i only got to practice for like a minute and it was not easy. esp when they jam up and they all come flying in. if anyone has any advice on that..
That’s called splitting, it sucks cuz your back is constantly twisting. And honestly if you miss it , you miss it. All they’ll do it send it back on the line again so don’t work too hard
Question. So for the old ladies like me that will be scanning 😇 when we clock in would we labor check before we get our scanner? Or wait till after the stretch and comments then get the scanner and then labor check?
The scanner tracks you. So as you scan , you get a scan rate that pops up that counts by increments of 4 . As long as you have a scan rate on your scanner you’re good. If you aren’t labor tracked and are not scanning, you’ll fall into what is called a Time Off Task. They’ll come find you and either write you up or just tell you to get back to work
@@EdwinLaCroix thank you
What worse this sortation center or outbound with forklifts an large machinery?
In Sortation you can get what is called PIT Training where you drive fork lifts to move the black pallets you see in the beginning of the video. You probably never gon do that tho.
2:18 I sit and home be bored anyway smh I might as well get paid for it
Please someone tell me. Will Amazon not hire me if I fail the drug test for THC in a state where it is recreationally legal?
Idk what amazons policy is since they can have their own rules on what kind of things people can use, Despite the states law. Because imagine if they let people work machines while impaired because the state said it was okay
What's the difference between Splitter/Facer/Pickoff? I just got hired and just been scanning and stacking pallets but like what's an example of what the screen will say where to go?
You’d just be responsible for two different letters, so if you’re splitting at the top, more than likely you’d just have to watch out for A, B, C. All of those are the same positions honestly. You’d just have to watch what comes down and if it matches the two pods next to you , you bring them over. Hope this helps
I start at as a sortation associate at my local Amazon warehouse , however I feel like I'm going go get lost at what to do each day, & how do you switch positions throughout the day if want too without asking someone on the floor? I was thinking it was going to be one job, one station and clock in and do the same job for 4 hours a day ( part time seasonal) and then clock out? Who tells you where to go when you arrive at work so you know where to go ? Is it quite the job where you are by yourself at a fast pace? Just overthinking as I haven't done orientation yet.
You’ll see during orientation, but the first step after scanning in lanes for a couple weeks is to do staging or be a water spider. You need mobility and they’ll get used to you walking around because in their mind they know you not just a scanner. That way you can get trained in other areas without them trying to BS you
Been at a fulltime fulfillment center now since October of last year when I transferred from my part time sortation center job
I do that and stow sometimes! It is good work, but I know that there are other roles that offer way more and way less physically demanding. And scanning may be far easier but like you said it’s boring and it will make you question your life decisions
Definitely was questioning life decisions at that point lol
i got a question what position is called stacking package on the pallets coming from the chute and then wrapping it up around
That’s the default position, there’s no name for it . They’ll just say go to the lanes . When they say lanes that means scan packages, building the pallets and then wrapping them.
A ‘water spider ‘ will then close it out and then a stager comes and moves it away
Are the positions at the sorting center fulltime? I work at a fulfillment Center and i hate it, trying to move to sorting center
Fulfillment and the part after sortation ate the worst. Sortation is really the Go-To. But to your question It’s not permanent . You learn as you go and they’ll move you around or you move yourself to where you want to be. It’s pretty chill
What makes scanning the worst?
Rates
Ima be real, this doesn’t look too bad at all. Maybe it’s the fulfillment center/ full timers that get it worse but this actually looks pretty ez. I was considering ups but from what I understand they work their people like dogs, and I only need part time work rn and don’t care too much about benefits at this point in time. Are you able to have air pods in or anything? If so then I’m golden.
Depends, if you on the floor where they scanning they probably gonna make you take em out . But it really depends on where you at and who the supervisors are. If you can get some black ear buds then your chances are much better.
I just got hired for sortation center I’m a little worried . So your able to move around if you want ? Like to different departments?
Yes and no. Just make sure you’re trained first, inbound is really the only place where you can just walk over and start working. This video shows you everything you need to know on inbound really. That and staging. Staging is gonna be your best friend. Walk in grab a pallet Jack and if you are lost ask someone else you see dragging stuff around and they’ll help you
Hi 👋I just did my drug test today and should start in about 2 weeks. They gave me a voucher for $110.00 to Zappos for safety shoes. Am I supposed to order those today? Before I have the results back from drug test and background check? Also do I HAVE to wear safety shoes? I would be so so grateful if you replied. I get incredibly anxious with new things
Lol don’t nobody wear them shoes. I ordered mine and never wore them
@@EdwinLaCroix ah, okay lol. Thank you. At least I'll get a free pair of shoes out of it I guess
@@EdwinLaCroix lol what they wear then? Mine come in the mail tomorrow I start next week.
How many trucks or boxes are you suppose to unload a night?
It depends, sometimes we do 35k so 35k is probably from like 6-10 trucks. I think that’s right lol but at the end of the day its a lot of trucks. On one truck you’ll find 2-5k of items
im for sure ordering a desk nd dog food even tho i dont have a dog lol
lol go for it, I’m not there anymore but people don’t treat heavy things with care so do so wisely!
What position would you consider this, a warehouse associate or package sorter? What position do you call this one as presented on the application?
Sortation center, I just applied to it just now. If you want to do the things that you scan it and put it inside of those yellow trays that's in fulfilment center
Just the kind of info I needed
What does flex up mean? And is vto the same as vacation time off.
Flex up is just like extending your shift, for my site it's up to an hour past what time your shift would normally end and basically tou have to stay for it unless you have personal time to put in or your manager gives you vto which is voluntary time off and you don't get paid for it
Hello question. What is the process for changing a shift as a PT sorter? I start soon and will have to work a different shift in a few months.
Idk what a PT is but I think once you choose a shift when you apply your shift is still flexible until like the first two weeks you start. I suggest you change it to the shift you need in a couple months as soon as you can so they don’t hit you with a “Sorry that’s not possible “ cuz Amazon HR likes to play
@@EdwinLaCroix Sorry It is Part time sorter. Thank you.
@@jacolelaryea I assume you've already resolved this, but I'll answer anyways for anyone else with this question.
After you've worked 30 days on your shift, you will be given the option to change your schedule through the A to Z app on your phone (or at one of the computers set up in the building). You can also add more days to your shift (not to exceed 6 days total or 12 hours in a single day, or 24 hours (not including flex) for the week). It will have to be approved by Amazon. Once approved, you have to work that new shift 30 days before you can change your shift again.
does Amazon only hire seasonal then make you permanent ? cause been wanting to switch jobs and there's seasonal positions for peak season but don't want to apply if ill just be let go come January.
They say seasonal but they not gon let you go tbh cuz they need people. Now if nobody quit after peak season then they gon be like Ight it’s too many people
Thanks for the video. I just accepted a PA position at a Sort Center and I'm coming from the outbound ship dock in an FC. Seems pretty chill compared to FC world.
Yea way more chill bro
Hey dude ! Can you please reply before 5 days after I post this comment lol! I applied for warehouse associate my description says I’ll be working on the conveyor belt I have no idea what my exact postition is I have a description but not the exact position

what are packages sorted by? size? or type? or location? or somethin?
Destination
@@EdwinLaCroix by destination, does it mean by the actual addresses? or by cities? or by states?
@@AdvantageYT like we sort them based on city and then idk what happens after it leaves us. But you’ll see an abbreviation like FL ATL HOU and the I guess the delivery people know how to sort it out
What ones better warehouse worker or package sorter I need a job no cap
Wym ? For Amazon there are three different facilities I think, fulfillment: where you put the items in the box and tape it up, sortation : where those boxes come to us and we organize them to different locations to be shipped out and then the last one where they actually get put in vans for delivery.
I recommend sortation and just do what I’m doing In the video
Lol you right I hate scanning. Cross Dock is my regular spot 😎.
This really helped thanks alot just one question do they station you to your department/position or is it like your job to just walk around and do multiple things especially if your department/station is really slow? Like is it your job to entirely stay/focus on your job or to go and do different things? I'm at fast food in Hope's to go to amazon soon!
You’ll start scanning. Then when it’s busy an Assistant will be like hey do you know how to work this or do this, (usually I say yes and figure it out as I go) but you gotta be trained in most cases. The more you know how to do the more they won’t really be on your back about everything
I have my interview tomorrow, question can i pick up different shifts later on? Because seems like im only working for 3 shifts that’s nothing lol
You gotta interview for this ?💀 lmao you working in logistics? But the shifts you signed up for will be permanent unless you in school and need to change it or got hardship. Your center will drop voluntary extra shifts tho if you want to work additional shifts but some centers rarely do or drop them every day. Depends
Lol I had a interview at Amazon twice and I got scared to work there and you made it even worse 🤣🤣
Lol yea don’t even do it
Currently at Target unloading trucks, thinking about applying for this position l. Seems like less manual labor
It depends on what job you're assigned. At the very least, expect to walk 4+ miles each shift. If you are in Non Con, there's quite a bit of manual labor. That's where the big and/or heavy packages go. You will learn to hate metal bed frames if you ever get assigned Non Con.
Thanks .. this video is helpful for people want to work at amazon like me .
what happens if you don’t get a scanner on purpose and you go to another area like smalls ? cause that’s what i did the other day 😂
They’ll labor track you, and usually they have to clear you in the system to train in certain areas so it’ll pop up that you haven’t been trained . You’re still labor tracked but it’ll show up on someone computer and either they’ll ignore it or come find you.
Small sis competitive tho. So as long as you get there early and know what you’re doing you should be good
@@EdwinLaCroix LMAOOO REALLY? I work at a Sort center right now and I never go where I'm assigned I just do what I want for the day.
I'm not trained to load the trucks because I'm still waiting to be trained for that but I do it anyway because my favorite coworkers usually are over there and they've taught me everything I'm just not officially trained for it and no PA or AM has said anything yet even though they've seen me there.
Can you choose to just work as a truck unloader?
Soon I am starting my job at a sortation center.I want to ask is it very heavy or very fast?if it's heavy then it would not easy for me
There will be very heavy boxes and very light boxes. Do what you can
Bro, at ups, the Amazon packages are the easiest.
Hate getting a trailer full of construction s*** irregs
Thanks for the old lady comment 😂 I start in a couple weeks and wondered if I’d be able to do it. Guess I’ll be scanning 😁 How are they on requesting time off? I will need to take a day off a few weeks after I start. Great video. Thanks!
If you haven’t started yet talk to HR for the days you need off . And more than likely they’ll work with you as long as you bring necessary documents . They may not be able to accommodate. Depends on your center and how nice they are. But try to ask during your on boarding
Ok! And thank you for the quick reply!
Insightful video my brotha 🔥
Fa sho, tryna make different styles videos
I've been at a sort center for a month now and as soon as I was eligible to be trained in other things I did that cause scanning in the lanes is just not it lol. Hate dealing with shitty pallets cause people are too lazy to properly build one. I'm primarily in bagland (not sure if that's a universal name for that section), but I've been trained for sort slide and pickoff. I'll do any of those 3 before doing lanes lol. I hate non-con. My building never seems to have enough people over there to do team lift with so I'm not breaking my back doing that.
Bagland might be called “Smalls “ elsewhere. It’s just the small parcel packages and yea this video some years old now but still relevant lol keep it up
I use to work at the fulfillment center and I hated picking during peak season but I start at the sortation center on the 30th at 3:45 to 7:45 tues.-sat….shouldn’t be that bad
Yea it’s just that waking up early part. And then when you get off you really have the whole day to do everything you need to. I really fw those shifts but I just can never wake up. I be late every time, so I stopped picking up those shifts
I applied for sesonal are they going to give me the option what position to work ?
I know you probably won’t see this , but I am thinking of transferring buildings to go to a distribution center because i am at a fulfillment center and I fucking hate it. I have a question though , what if you are short and they put you on the truck to unload? Because there would be no way for me to get all the way to the top and try to unload it while being quick.
Lol they won’t put you on a truck if you’re visibly small. If you’re small and you’re on a truck then you asked to be on it. Some trucks are 100% small boxes so anyone can unload those. You’d probably be on one of those trucks unloading those mini boxes. The ones with huge desks and etc are just the bigger guys mostly. You’d be sideloading tbh. DO SORTATION!! Idk how distribution is but sortation provides the most flexibility to me
@@EdwinLaCroix oh okay thanks for letting me know
Does anyone know if 20 hour employees get benefits at the Sortation Center?
You get vision and dental
And a 401k
question bro - why dont you listen to music ? just one earphone in
Depends. I do when the managers are cool. But for the most part I gotta be able to hear if they yelling to stop the belt or something. So it’s like , if I use one ear I gotta put that guy on blast just to hear it then I’m also hearing the machines so idk. It’s situational
I was a picker and I feel you on those desks and dog food AND CAT LITTER fuck that
bed frames too
That's interesting, thanks
Hello I have a question… I got hired at Amazon and my start date isn’t until the 18th of September. I’ve done the mydocs now just waiting on orientation video. Today I was looking at other schedule for the same position and I found a shit with my same days time and possible start date but the pay was higher so I selected. When I selected it canceled my original start date appointment. Does this mean I don’t have the job no more? What do I do now?
So you found another Amazon job with the same shift times but greater pay? Same Warehouse?
There’s a site where you can see all of your open Amazon applications . But if you’ve been hired and have done the drug test and took your ID picture you’re already onboarded.
You’d have to go in and resign manually or be fired for missing work at this point. Maybe email your local HR or pull up to the warehouse yourself to get direct answers. If you call, they’ll give you the run around and never answer your questions or help you foreal lol . Well that’s just from my experience. I’m actually about to go in and resign today actually lol
Yea everything is the same it’s just the pay is higher. So I guess I wait on them to confirm the new shift? But I do still have my job correct?
Why you resigning tho?
I mean I would imagine unless you cancelled an active application you wouldn’t have it but if you have a schedule on your AtoZ app then you good. But the only job you can get is the associate job which is $15.50. If it’s higher than that idk, you may have to double check that. Raises only come after months of working.
Honestly I think you can call the ERC number and then can confirm if you’re working. And I’m leaving cuz I’m tired of it lol I got a new job
Call ERC
Yea don’t drink any Waterhouse water worked at arm and hammer and their filter was blackkk got me sick first day working
Warehouse*
Excellent video and that Jeff bezos song was on point ! Question, once you start working at a sortation center, are there “any” options to go full time ? I’m switching from a fulfillment center full time to a part time sortation center cuz it’s closer to my house. Thanks
Yes there is an option for a full time.
Yea you’ll be scheduled for at least one double per week. So TWI (2-6/7pm) and NIGHT sort (7:45 - 11/12:45) for example. Then two more days of work so you’ll have at least 24-32 hours per week. They drop Voluntary Extra Time where you pick up shifts so you can work 50-60 hours a week if you want to honestly.
Oh and the water at amazon yeah I tried to get some and there was dirt all in my cup it was gross
Thanks for the video. I start Jan 9th. I sure hope I can handle it.
How is/was it? Asking for me lol
@@ashialujano8671did u ever get hired? How is it?
Are you allowed to listen to music at all??
Nah, but the most lax area is inbound from my experience. So inbound might be your best option if you wanna put in headphones. Honestly we get caught cuz the air pods are white . Some older guys put in the black smaller ones and they don’t get in trouble
They barely put any paper in the dog food boxes and only one strip of tape!A non con truck is the worse to unload.
Exactly lol boxes be weak as hell and the dog food is like 100 pounds
Dannng I worked at the fulfillment center it wasn't that bad as ppl made it seem.. but after applying for sort this look much easier haha
100% true
Is there a way I could switch to a flex schedule
what time of the day is busiest in a Sortation center.
Depends on where you located, but I’d say TWI sort. 2-7pm
Im thinking about getting doin a the package sorter is it easy?
Like small parcel packages? That’s the easiest spot ngl
@EdwinLaCroix so you just put a label on the box in the thing does the rest?
