As a Massachusetts native, I gotta say the clam chowder one is legit. There are often a lot of places that make kind of bad chowder though. The best places for good clam chowder are Rockport and Martha's Vineyard.
Lived in colorado my entire life never had one, never seen anyone have one only seen it at a couple restaurants out of hundreds. At this point I think were biggest for craft beer and weed I struggle to think of an iconic food dish because we have a lil everything.
So been thinking about this and if Colorado did have a iconic food I would say its pork green chili or bbq with way too much, and all the wrong seasoning.
Missourian here, I'd like to acknowledge all the old farm ladies who were wonderful cooks. When l was a little kid in the 60s, in southern Missouri, almost every lady could cook like crazy. Seemed like they all made the best fried chicken. Brisket, dumplins, hot rolls, pork in every form it seemed, cooler, cooler, cooler, hand churned ice cream. The only thing better was to sit and listen to these beautiful folks talk and to interact with them. I love those Ozark people.
If you were a kid in the 60's, the "old farm ladies" must've been born around the 1900's, so OF COURSE they knew how to cook absolutely incredible dishes with very little ingredients, they lived their whole lives only from what their families could grow/pick and raise/hunt themselves!
I saw a few comments mention that New Jersey should’ve had the sub or deli sandwiches. As a lifelong resident, I completely agree. Local deli and sandwich joints are everywhere. Jersey Mikes, QuickChek, Sam’s Deli etc. One thing I do appreciate about NJ food is, if you’re up in North East Jersey, you can get Pizza pretty much on par with NY in a lot of spots. If you go down to more Southern Jersey, you can get a Cheesesteak (almost) as good as some spots in Philly. Due to a lot of people from those bigger cities migrating over. We have great bagels, too!
@@peyton.s612 I said that because OP said that California avocados come from Mexico. I've ask is Mexico part of the US because the fact stated that California produce more avocados than the other states. Since Mexico isn't part of the US, Mexico don't apply for this fact.

Washington used to be famous for its apples and cherries. And seafood, especially oysters, clams and salmon. Now its famous for a corporate cookie cutter coffee shop. Sad, that people don't know any better...
As a born and raised Native Hawaiian, I’m a sucker for raw fish poke and can barely eat it pan seared but battered and fried I’m all for. Plus, the poke bowls in Cali aren’t poke bowls, they’re salads with poke in it. A poke bowl is poke and rice-that’s all you need
immage being from Washington and having coffee a food we don't grow in our state and is extremely commonplace all around the world being your so called staple food lol
The delaware one is spot on, I didn't have round drop dumplings in my soup until I had chicken and dumplings at a friend's house who was from another state. Honestly Slippery dumplings just make it so much better.
Some of these iconic dishes have spread beyond the borders of their states to capture tastebuds around the nation -- some that immediate come to mind are gumbo, philly cheesesteaks, and Chicago Deep Dish and New York Style pizza.
As a European who loves Italian-style pizza, one of my culinary dreams is to travel to New York to try their pizza, but also to Chicago to try the deep dish. One awesome thing about the USA being so big and so diverse is that you can find literally every type of cuisine there, both genuine and Americanized.
yo man u can just like. have a new york style pizza. i know its sentimental to u, but the pizzas in new york can be made anywhere on earth exactly the same
I had Chicago deep dish a week ago for the first time, in Chicago!! It was really good! More of a Stromboli with sauce on top in terms of taste/ feel. I had bell peppers and mushrooms and ham and pepperoni.
Californian here. Pretty sure most Californians wouldn't agree with avocado. Each region has its own specialty, but In-n-out burgers and burritos are pretty ubiquitous and beloved across the state (could also make an argument for wine as a high-end state favorite). Yes we like avocados, but we grow all kinds of produce, including 90%+ of America's almonds, figs, olives, kiwis, dates, pistachios, walnuts, etc.
Yeah. That would be like making Wisconsin's state food beer. Yes, Wisconsin might be known for its breweries (I mean, their baseball team's called the Brewers), but people across the country drink beer, and beer's brewed across the country and across the world. Same for Californian avocados: Avocados are enjoyed across the country and sold in supermarkets across the country. For comparison, something like the Sonoran dog of Arizona or Chicago's deep dish pizza are local staples that aren't found throughout the country.
Oklahoman here and y’all nailed it with the chicken fried steak! I work at a restaurant called del Rancho it’s know for its chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken
I'm originally from Michigan and they're right about the fudge...literally every place that sells ice cream has Mackinac Island Fudge as a flavor and god do I miss it :(
I definitely thought they would say the Coney Dog but maybe that's just for us in the southeastern part of the state. that fudge is amazing though. I haven't been to Mackinac Island in years. Frankenmuth fudge is great too.
@Alexandra Murray Also from California, and the avocado burgers are really good, if you like avocado. Just be careful not to hold it too tight or the avocado will get all over your hands.
Two people bump into each other while rounding a corner: “You got cinnamon roll in my chili!” “You got chili in my cinnamon roll!” Thus, the legend was born.
As a person born and raised in maryland I 100% agree with the lady when she said we were obsessed with crabs and to not forget the old bay pretty much everything my family would eat, we put old bay on and we always had crabs around
Exactly what I wanted to say - coffee isn't food. Washington always gets shortchanged in these sort of lists, but to be fair, we don't really have a specific state dish here.
@@Ambrosia.apples We are quite known for our salmon and other seafood. as well as our apples and the largest producer of Rhubarb in the US So right there is at LEAST ONE meal AND dessert. Besides Coffee these people just didn't do any research.

As a Californian, i can confirm the avocado game is REAL. I put guacamole on an in n out burger and thought to myself “wow this is the most Californian thing I’ve ever done”

I remember taking the PSAT a few years ago, and there was a problem about the world’s cheese production. They listed the United States on top with Wisconsin in 3rd place, and the memes that ensued never fail to make me laugh
The Sonoran hot dog is a style of hot dog that originated in Hermosillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora, in the late 1980s It consists of a hot dog that is wrapped in bacon and grilled, served on a bolillo-style hot dog bun, and topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, and a variety of additional condiments,
I and my friend went to Corolado and we tried the Rocky Mountain Oysters. We kept saying it didn’t taste like oyster. I remembered reading somewhere that they chopped the oysters into pieces and maybe that was why the taste changed (now I think my memories just tricked me). We thought it tasted like chicken gizzards… I’m totally sending this video to my friend now. I wish I could be there to see her reaction 😂💀
I'm a full grown woman but yes, I'm a New Jerseyan and there is taylor ham in my fridge. If you're a true NJ MAN, you already know that the NJ woman's mouth is more than a notion. We talk ish with the best of them...lol.
My states food is a food that literal everyone eats there. It’s the most famous food of our state and it is entirely accurate. I live in Minnesota. I eat tater tot hot dish at least twice a month
We had a Maid-Rite across the street from us. Summers were spent listening to “Welcome to Maid-Rite. May I take your order, please” through the open Windows. It sure was handy on days when I didn’t feel up to cooking.
I'm from MD and can confirm our love of blue crabs, albeit most people I know would rather get a dozen steamed crabs and pick it themselves than get a crabcake just because picking crabs on the bay is a fun nostalgic activity. I suppose crab cakes are usually preferred by tourists/people who want to stay clean/'civilized' meals haha. Seriously though, if you come to MD in the summer, go to Cantlers or Mike's crab house near the bay bridge, you wont be dissapointed
When I was teaching in Virginia we'd send someone to MD on the Saturday after summer closing and get two bushels of crabs. Had to bring your own picks. Also had a keg of beer. Heaven.
@@daddykarlmarx6183 Dumplings come in two kinds: slippery and drop. The slippery ones are basically soft noodles, made by rolling out and cutting a soft noodle dough. The round ones are drop dumplings, made by dropping in spoonfuls of thick batter. Both are traditional.
I can confirm that Avocado is absurdly popular in California. I know I get it at the grocery store every week... However, I think it would be more apt to put down "Tacos".
As someone who grew up in New Jersey, I do love salt water taffy. But sub sandwiches are the real iconic food from NJ. The term "submarine sandwich" was coined in my hometown of Paterson by an Italian immigrant (thanks Wikipedia). White House Subs in Atlantic City is one of the Jersey Shore's oldest sub shops, and of course the Jersey Mike's chain started from in Pt. Pleasant. (Yes, your local deli probably makes a better sandwich. But JM's subs are at least far superior to Subway...)
As a fellow NJ resident, I completely agree. Sub sandwich Jersey Mike’s as you said, but also, the Quickchecks on every corner. Which all boast a pretty wide deli section
Actually the original name in (eastern) Europe is Shashlik (Cislik in the video). But I guess it's fair to say that there is a corridor of grilled meat on a skewer throughout southeasteurope ^^
I never heard of that until I met my wife from a small town. Growing in up in eastern Nebraska we always had steak. Midwestern beef is what I thought Nebraska was. Sorry it's steak for me.
@@MillermaticS Yes it is. I grew up eating cinnamon rolls dipped in my chili. I thought that's how everyone ate it until I got older and realized it was just us and most people think it's weird. It's delicious.
As a Marylander, you got it right on the mark. Crab cake is definitely what a good amount of people eat here, go to anywhere near Ocean City or the Bay Area, and you’ll find plenty of Phillips restaurants and crab shacks galore, and no crab shack is without that Old Bay. My recommendation on crab cake? Pretty good.
Michigander here, Really? Mackinac fudge is defiantly the most iconic food from Michigan (Although I thought they were going to go for the coney dog or detroit style pizza)
I Need My Down Time haha actually tho low key think Wisconsin is pretty accurate, I am from Wisconsin and I love cheese curds and cheese in general, is anyone else from Wisconsin, I see no comments about it. We are super freaking underrated.

I was thinking that the toasted raviolis are a St Louis thing. But southern MO might be catfish. Or Osceola cheese!
Don't forget Taylor Ham !

As a European who loves Italian-style pizza, one of my culinary dreams is to travel to New York to try their pizza, but also to Chicago to try the deep dish. One awesome thing about the USA being so big and so diverse is that you can find literally every type of cuisine there, both genuine and Americanized.
That place is a dump
yo man u can just like. have a new york style pizza. i know its sentimental to u, but the pizzas in new york can be made anywhere on earth exactly the same

I had Chicago deep dish a week ago for the first time, in Chicago!! It was really good! More of a Stromboli with sauce on top in terms of taste/ feel. I had bell peppers and mushrooms and ham and pepperoni.
They're both awesome dishes, but they're so popular over here that you can get them in pretty much any city. Nicer cities.
