The point is that Sonic has more attack dynamics than Mario. But that's a pretty bad example of a boss, you have to jump on him anyway, only real difference (aside from controls) is the life difference Mario and Sonic have.
+Fruit Platter You underestimate him. In Sonic Colors, you can use his boost power to make him go across the water for bonus rings. In Sonic Rush Adventure, one of the first levels, if he or Blaze goes fast enough, they can sort of run across. Also, in certain Mario levels there's usually a huge chunk of rocks too tall for Mario to jump on, at least from the ones I've seen. Sonic can jump high enough to reach it if he builds momentum.
Sonic would easily do better in Mario's World than Vice-Versa, until Sonic gets to the water levels than he better hope there are bubbles or he has the Bubble Shield from Sonic 3. That would be awesome idea though have Sonic play through Super Mario Bros. 1-3/World and have Mario play through 1-3&Knuckles

Check the Sonic 4 and Sonic Forces map, there is no South Island or West Island, Green Hill and Emerald Hill are on the same continent south of the Chemical Plant islands.

How Mario can easily make it through green hill: 0:14 “After nabbing a Mushroom, do Spin Jumps to crush blocks and enemies, including ones you can't normally jump on.” -message block of super Mario world. 0:33 There’s a ton of platforms that mario can easily jump on way before this loop. He can use them to go over the loop and even the tunnel section after that, meaning he can clear this stage without a bit of speed at all! 0:54 if Mario can maybe jump on Robotnik himself rather than the drillinator, maybe he can beat him in 3 hits. If not, well, 8 hits it is.
Even though I like Mario a little more...gonna go with Sonic in Mario's world as the winner, but not quite as one-sided as this video. For now let's break down their strengths. We'll compare Mario 3/SMW Mario to Sonic 3/S3&K Sonic. *Mario* in Sonic world: - Better jumps (higher, more control) - Hits enemies (non-spiked) so long as he lands on them - Spin jump (SMW-only) - Swimming - Infinite air - Throw blocks - Can take up to 3 hits in some games - Big (can break blocks) - Fire flower - Tanooki suit (M3-only) - Sonic's levels have a time limit of 10 minutes *Sonic* in Mario world: - More ways to attack - Hits enemies (non-spiked) so long as spinning - Faster - Rings are easier to come by than mushrooms - Rings can be recollected unlike mushrooms - Fire shield, immune to fire and forward jump - Water shield, immune to some projectiles, bounce, and no drowning - Lightning shield to double jump and collect rings easily (definitely my favorite) - Super Sonic, but requires all chaos emeralds As such, the most obvious advantage Sonic has over Mario is his numerous ways of offense, most of which protect from non-spiked enemies, but his greatest disadvantage is his aversion to water. As such, water levels will be pure hell for Sonic. I'd prefer to play as Bill or Lance (Contra) but they're way worse than either with the exception of shooting enemies. No way to take a second hit, no other way to hit an enemy besides shooting, and the only power ups are to your gun. Which you lose if you die. Or Mega Man I guess. He can take a lot of punishment and has WAY more options to attack once he beats the robot masters, though he has a great disadvantage to Mario/Sonic as spikes are instant death to him. Anyways I'm getting off track. However, and this is why I said Sonic, if Mario doesn't have the ability to fly or loses it, he is screwed at a loop-de-loop. Unless he has some other way around, he isn't getting past it. If he does get past that, many forms of Robotnik are extremely difficult to hit on top or outright impossible (without flight). Meanwhile some bosses with Sonic would be just as easy as holding his spin dash. So while he'd have a lot of trouble with the water levels his route would likely be possible, water levels and all.

There’s a ton of platforms that mario can easily jump on way before this loop. He can use them to go over the loop and even the tunnel section after that, meaning he can clear this stage without a bit of speed at all!
0:54 if Mario can maybe jump on Robotnik himself rather than the drillinator, maybe he can beat him in 3 hits. If not, well, 8 hits it is.

Even though I like Mario a little more...gonna go with Sonic in Mario's world as the winner, but not quite as one-sided as this video. For now let's break down their strengths. We'll compare Mario 3/SMW Mario to Sonic 3/S3&K Sonic.
*Mario* in Sonic world:
- Better jumps (higher, more control)
- Hits enemies (non-spiked) so long as he lands on them
- Spin jump (SMW-only)
- Swimming
- Infinite air
- Throw blocks
- Can take up to 3 hits in some games
- Big (can break blocks)
- Fire flower
- Tanooki suit (M3-only)
- Sonic's levels have a time limit of 10 minutes
*Sonic* in Mario world:
- More ways to attack
- Hits enemies (non-spiked) so long as spinning
- Faster
- Rings are easier to come by than mushrooms
- Rings can be recollected unlike mushrooms
- Fire shield, immune to fire and forward jump
- Water shield, immune to some projectiles, bounce, and no drowning
- Lightning shield to double jump and collect rings easily (definitely my favorite)
- Super Sonic, but requires all chaos emeralds
As such, the most obvious advantage Sonic has over Mario is his numerous ways of offense, most of which protect from non-spiked enemies, but his greatest disadvantage is his aversion to water. As such, water levels will be pure hell for Sonic.
I'd prefer to play as Bill or Lance (Contra) but they're way worse than either with the exception of shooting enemies. No way to take a second hit, no other way to hit an enemy besides shooting, and the only power ups are to your gun. Which you lose if you die. Or Mega Man I guess. He can take a lot of punishment and has WAY more options to attack once he beats the robot masters, though he has a great disadvantage to Mario/Sonic as spikes are instant death to him. Anyways I'm getting off track.
However, and this is why I said Sonic, if Mario doesn't have the ability to fly or loses it, he is screwed at a loop-de-loop. Unless he has some other way around, he isn't getting past it. If he does get past that, many forms of Robotnik are extremely difficult to hit on top or outright impossible (without flight). Meanwhile some bosses with Sonic would be just as easy as holding his spin dash. So while he'd have a lot of trouble with the water levels his route would likely be possible, water levels and all.
