    Fantastic little machine. The 14hp can do a heck of a job. I moved a 100 yds of dirt to build a berm at my office. Built like tank and very simple to work on. Be careful, no brake!

    hi glenn i scored a late 60s m600 with 950 original hours it was in dry storage for over 30 years. i bought new tires and rims i got the tires from lou maddie in middleboro and the rims from bobcat of bourne but iput hydraulic hydrostat fluid in both sides thru the breather vent holes,because it leaked out the wheel seals when i ran it but id like to know if thats just to lube the chains andi put over a gallon in each side . where does the hydraulic oil go? and how do i check it and how much does it hold? i cant find the hydraulic tank its not fed thru the sides is it ? id love to talk to you this machine i got is a time capsule thanks bill h.

    • @livetoridemyxlh
      @livetoridemyxlh  8 лет назад

      +bill hicks The frame of the machine IS the hydraulic tank. There is a small plastic screw cap on top of one of the chaincases, right below the lift arm. I can't remember which side. It is a large plastic flat head screw. That is where the hydraulic oil goes. Both sides are connected underneath so don't worry, the fluid will even out. Use Type A ATF or it's current equivalent. There are two square head screws in the side of the chaincase. they are on top of one another. That is where you check the hydraulic fluid level. Unscrew the top one and then start to fill the machine. When oil starts to drip out of that top screw hole you're full. Almost all old Melroes have axel seal leaks. Bobcat sells the seals for cheap - dismantling the machine and pulling the axels is a bit of labor. If it is not leaking too badly I would just keep an eye on it. Sounds like you got a barn find! I'm off all day tomorrow if you want to call me. Just email me your number I'll tell you everything I know about these old machines.glenncrna@gmail.com

      thanx Glenn Iappreciate it how much fluid do u think it holds? ive got some lucas power steering stop leak i was gonna fill the hydraulics and put that in when im gonna run it for a couple of hours to see if i can slow it down the manual says you can run 10 30 or 10 40 hydraulic oil which im thinking of trying i put in 2 gallons of bobcats fluid but i only ran it for 20 minites or so so ill have it ready to run for a while i gotta change plugs put some grease fittings in etc maybe it will stop or slow it down and the heavier oil should b fine in the warm weather b in touch soon thanx guy bill h

    I have a 71 M 371 in the process of working out a few problems, trying to figure out why the Tilt cylinders on the bucket slowly bleed down. Also when changing the hydraulic fluid do you or anybody happen to know the correct hydraulic fluid to use in this system I believe the capacity is around 6 to 8 gallons but I'm unsure also am on the lookout for a service manual. Pretty cool machines

    • @livetoridemyxlh
      @livetoridemyxlh  5 лет назад +2

      I believe 6-8 is correct. Start at 5 and keep checking the dipstick. It calls for type A ATF but I've been using regular hydraulic fluid from tractor supply for about a year now. If you are on Facebook join Melroe Bobcat Owners of America Group. I have posted all the manuals for the older belt driven machines in PDF format.

      I'm not sure what year Deer the filter came off of. I just searched eBay by the engine model (Kohler K321) and that's what I found. The K321 powered a lot of different Deer models.

    How was this skid steer sandblasted with the hydraulic system (hoses, etc.) still intact? Also, I see that the wheel hubs and axles were also left in place. Sandblasting around the wheel hubs will guarantee that your seals will leak!

    • @livetoridemyxlh
      @livetoridemyxlh  7 лет назад

      Technical Corporal that's a good question. The hydraulic system was not breeched prior to sandblasting. As for the seals, I asked Mark to take special care to avoid going heavy in this areas. Subsequent to priming and painting the machine I got into the chaincase to look around and do a system flush. I'm about 100 hours into this machine and no issues as of yet.

    I think something worth doing, would be to throw a bigger engine in it.. if you could find the right one.

    • @MrRider65
      @MrRider65 Год назад

      You really don't want to do that the Hydraulics and the drive system is only designed for so much horsepower. Not only that but a bigger engine would weigh a lot more and when you take the bucket off she would be tail heavy

    Great job on that machine, but oh man I hate to see any engine disrespected like that.
    If an engine has been sitting for so many years with God knows what in the oil, at least change out the fuel and oil before cranking it. Likewise, the starter is barely out before the engine is put to full throttle!
    Edit: Oh wait, I see it subsequently needed a re-engine, wow, couldn't see that one coming! Mate, I'm not trying to hate on anyone, but the humble internal combustion engine is still a miracle of engineering is so many ways and with just a tiny bit of care will almost always provide reliable service. It may be a small point, but just things like giving an engine 30 seconds or so to get some heat into a few parts before going full throttle will add considerably to the engine's final life expectancy. It was a tragedy to see that original engine swapped out for a Chinese engine, I have one, and they're a POS I curse every time I use it.

    • @livetoridemyxlh
      @livetoridemyxlh  7 лет назад

      Pete F Yeah I probably should have changed out the fluids before turning her over like that. I was planning on going through the engine, but I instead yanked it out and installed a 13HP pull start Harbor Freight Predator. 20 hours into the repower and the machine runs like new. See my video on the repower.

    • @886014
      @886014 7 лет назад

      Glenn Colassi Hey Glenn, yes as I said in my comments I have that Chinese engine and think it's a POS. It would be good to see the original back in there. Good luck with it
