Hi Dr. Dray, I love your videos. I would just like to point out some considerations with Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Hyaluronic Acid can damage our skin. HA inside our skin draws moisture down into the dermis keeping the skin hydrated, a great thing. Whereas topically applied HA has huge molecules, too large to penetrate the skin, so it just sits on the surface and attracts moisture. This is where it is misunderstood; it attracts moisture from the air for about 3 hours with temporary moisturization. However, it also draws moisture from inside our skin, thus drying it out and leading to skin problems. There are better solutions such as glycerin in skincare products; it too has moisturizing capabilities far superior to HA. It has smaller molecules, small enough to penetrate the skin and deliver hydration inside the skin where it is needed.

I have recently changed my skin care routine - I’ve started using adapolene for anti aging, and it has really dried out my already dry skin. In the morning on wet skin I apply Hada Labo skin plumping and Cerave tub cream. Once that is dry my sunscreens, and if it is cold and windy, I include a layer of Aveeno moisturizer with dimethicone and petrolatum. At night after washing my face - hada labo, Cerave tub and 20-30 minutes later the adapolene. It’s working! ❄️❄️❄️

This makes so much sense. I have noticed that HA actually makes me dry. I live in a dry climate and I sweat very easily. I noticed that when I got the Vichy Hylaounic acid serum that I could use it when the humidity was bumped up on hot yoga and notice my skin was softer. But then that would quickly fade into dryness.

I am curious if you could elaborate on molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid and if they work better when applied together?? 🙂
Alot of companies claim that by combining different molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid, it is able to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, thereby being able to hold onto water better. Many companies claim that normal hyaluronic acid is not able to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin which increases risk of transerpidermal water loss because the water is sucked out by the hyaluronic acid that sits on the top layer of the skin.
I hope you have some info on this 🙏🏻 Thanks!

I love HA in the summer when there is humidity in the air, but living in Scotland where in the winter the central heating is on a lot, I find switching to a different humectant works better. I tried using it under an occlusive and I felt it still was pulling water from the skin, but switching to beta glucan and urea works better for me in the cold weather/central heating. There is still a little HA in my moisturiser but switching my serums has made a difference ie using less HA. I do have very dry/dehydrated skin prone to eczema and that is only my personal experience. Someone less dry than me may not need to swap ingredient. For those who are struggling due to heating and Winter, maybe trying a different serum would help. Best wishes.

Glycolic acid when used in office as a chemical peel at high strengths and under control can be very good for hyperpigmentation and wrinkles reduction. But in cosmetic skin care, the pH and the strengths are rarely correct to be doing any of that so it mostly acts as a humectant. This pretty much applies to All alpha hydroxy acids actually, e.g. Lactic acid

I’m on accutane . And all my products have hyloronic acid and ceramides . I use the Cerave cream. And the la roche posay face repair mostirizer plus spf . And neutrogena water gel . And I cleans my face with cerave hydrating cleanser ...
My skin feels so much relief ... after a while I need to re apply creams. But that’s probably cuz my accutane is so drying... but definitely feel so good god with all these products

I live in Phoenix Arizona where it is hot, hot and hotter and drier, drier and drier, I use the Hydrating Hyaluronic at night, I have a humidifier in my bedroom that I put on at night when I sleep. One night I put Retinol on and the next night I use CeraVe's Hydrating Hyalouronic Acid serum.

Yes, yes, yes to hyaluronic acid! I have made my own simple serum using distilled water and hyaluronic acid powder for years. This has helped me to tolerate continuing Tazorac and very much minimizes peeling and irritation. I apply the Taz first, wait a few minutes, then apply the hyaluronic acid serum and top it off with moisturizer. Fabulous!

Adding this before moisturizing really helped soo much. Someone else may have asked this, but I once heard from another specialist in a video that there's two 'types' of hyaluronic acid and one that's not as good can cause inflammation or something along those lines? Is there much truth or relevance to that, or should it all be relatively safe? I'm assuming yes, I've had no issues with mine hahah.

I never go without a hyalauronic acid serum &/or moisturizer now. I’ve been very curious about why it’s having the effect on my skin it’s been having, though. I have dry, flaky skin and now SIMPLE moisturizers with hyalauronic acid and nothing that irritates my skin are my favorite way of getting HA. But depending on the moisturizer (whether it has HA or not) and other factors like the weather, my cleansing regimen, etc...sometimes the moisturizer isn’t hydrating enough. So when I apply a HA serum under my moisturizer it does make a pretty big difference, but I get these large bumps under the skin if I do this consistently. Almost like cystic acne that doesn’t come to a head. If I hold off on the serum for a day or two and just use the moisturizer I do notice that the bumps go away within a day or two. I feel like I can’t win!🤷🏼‍♀️I feel like I have the weirdest, most finicky skin.🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m wondering... if HA can draw moisture in and out of your skin if it can mess with the oils in your skin if you overdo it. Is skin purging even real and should I just continue with the serum and let my skin adjust.... Really heavy, sticky, “super hydrating” moisturizers don’t seem to work as well for me as a lighter water cream type consistency does.
The moisturizers alone do a great job of keeping me clear and not irritated. I still have the flaky dryness with them sometimes, though. I use physical exfoliation once a week, cleanse daily with Murad Essential-C face wash and tolerate it fine. I can’t handle chemical exfoliants at all. I recently tried to go back to glycolic acid for one night and looked like a hot iron hit my face. If it wasn’t for E 45 I would’ve had to go to a doctor for what THAT did to my rosacea-prone areas.
Dr Dray’s gotta be like “I can’t stand this girl and her crazy lengthy stories & crazy questions anymore”😂🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi there, I like your videos, really professional and informative. I have a few questions, maybe you could dedicate a video on these topics.
    1. What is the different between oil and serum, like rose hip or pomegranate oil/serum. Are they recommended?
    2. Men shave, obviously. What is the best routing to use after shaving? How healthy is shaving every day?
    3. How do you maintain skin with a beard?
    Thanks, and Happy 2020!

Happy Monday! I like products with hyaluronic acid! I think in my case I have seen some differences but after applying this ingredient over a long period of time! There are sprays with hyaluronic acid that some people use as a makeup fixative. I'm glad to know because I haven't bought it yet. Spraying the product is therefore not productive because it evaporates if no moisturizing cream is applied. Thanks for the video!
