M140i (& other x40i’s) worth a mention, consistently hitting 45mpg on motorway runs. B58 + ZF8 gearbox is such a good combo!
I was so amazed with my 140's mpg. My current RS3 will just about get 32-34 on the motorway but it sits at 2.1k rpm at 70 so the turbo is spinning away adding to fuel consumption. It's just meant to go. Different machine and purpose entirely as RS cars are not built for mpg in mind at all, but on a roll the RS3 wouldn't ditch the 140i that significantly! Amazing cars, both of them. Props to BMW!
@@peanusbenis5631 To be fair (and I owned an M140i for 4 years, tuned to 455bhp/634nm), it was Toyoto who helped BMW develop the B58, and probably why it is so good.
Mine even tuned, regularly hit 42-43 mpg.
My current car an OG M2 has less power, but uses more fuel !

@@aki-sid25-30 depending if you’re booting it. Long term average is 31. It’s doing ~10mpg less than my old mk7.5 GTD, which is pretty impressive for a car with almost double the power!
Can’t wait for the under 5k, have waited for a while on this one, be interesting to see what you can come up with, and worth mentioning what a Stage 1 would add to final BHP and possibly 0-60 😎

Agree, I have the 335d LCI remapped and it's so effort less and fast. Also have the older E90 LCI 330d and that remaps well too

I reckon the Fiesta is being saved for the £5k video and the 308 is kind of covered by the RCZ R, although they are reasonably different in a few ways (enough that I have a 308 sitting outside and not an RCZ!).
my mate has a fiesta st mk7, really great car, ridiculously quick for its size and just handles so well

My 2016 Mazda MX-5 1.5 gives me well over 50 mpg on E10 petrol tank average every time. 2014 MINI Cooper 1.5 the same.
My VXR has done 25mpg over the last 5,000 miles. It only runs on V-Power and gets a bottle of RedEx every tank.
The BMW 330d should be on this list. The 258 BHP (F30) model. It does 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and has a claimed 57MPG combined.
2021 Kia Picanto GT-Line S "Bumblebee"; a special edition being the last of the old badge models with 120bhp and a 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds, perhaps not hot-hatch territory, bit neither is the 59mpg either

I have an 2014 focus st moutune and round the steets i get 21.9mpg its shocking been looking at and m140i s3 or golf r so maybe time for a change
My 2007 merc 3.0 e320cdi has averaged 32mpg over 3 years but can see upwards of 40 mpg on a motorway run. Happy with that considering its weight and having 220bhp

Once again you've missed off the Peugeot 308 GTi 270 BHP 1200KG and 0-62 in 6 seconds and MPG is (on my 2018) 41 MPG average, plus only 700 left on UK roads, so a future classic
Doubt it's a future classic, too much stigma/bias around the Prince engine. Also the RCZ kind of covers it. That said, that stigma/bias is based mostly on misinformation and there are 3 Golfs on the list...
Interestingly, as a fellow 308 GTi owner, my average MPG is exactly the same as yours! Once I get my service next Friday I'm hoping to get JB to review mine, then he'll stick it in a few lists, hopefully for positive reasons 🤣

I test drove an M4 last year and I reckon they can be more economical than that - I was seeing mid-40s at cruising speeds, so I reckon low 40s on a run and at least high 20s average is very plausible.
2019 type R - i get 32mpg driving around town and on motorways, 40+ driving sensibly

I need to go through a ton of your vids for some inspiration, I just sold my 2002 IS300, last year I sold my 2004 LS430, and i've finally sold my Yaris 1.33 Shtbox, but I need a Automatic petrol car thats cheap economical and reliable with rear legroom for a teenager to sit behind me, but i'm 6'3 which rules out just getting another Yaris...

Drove an M at a wedding in France when new. The owner made sure I floored it. Felt very composed and well built. Good stereo too.
My last car was a DS3 D Sport and the most i ever got out of it was 33.5mpg 😬

I can tell you for a fact you will not get 50mpg out of 435d unless you live next to a motorway and do 50 miles a day each way on it. Regular driving you should get 40+ which considering the performance is amazing, and the egr was a recall so no worries there

Golf r fuel economy is shocking for its engine size i had one averaged about 23mpg and 34 on the motorway at a push
Assuming that was the dsg …. The 6 speed dsg final gear ratio is terrible. The later 7 speed is better for motorway cruising
Same with A45 amg, can get 28mpg at a push 😢

Only left out for the 435D instead, but anything 35D is pretty insane for both performance and fuel economy 🤙🏽
