Amtrak Surfliner cab ride!

- I created this video with the RUclips Video Editor ( / editor ) I was a seat away from the cab so i call it a cab ride. this was shot on a trip in california. sorry for shakeyness! please excuse the backround noise this superlinner was kinda crowded. check out my other videos!
Way too much zoom in make everything look slow. Zoom in also causes more shaking.
As an Operation Lifesaver presenter, I wrote to the appropriate Amtrak personnel and secured permission to ride in the locomotive from Goleto (Santa Barbara) to San Diego. An Amtrak employee rode along so that the engineer was not alone with me. (Sorry that it cost Amtrak extra for the employee.)
This was a year before 9-11.
Maybe now not possible.
Here, the passenger could have stood just behind the window for better video. When not enough passengers, they do not open this cab car.

The TITLE....says AMTRAK SURFLINER cab ride! That does not say BEHIND the cab.
its really like 5 or 6 10-15 clips, nothing exciting. i will probably put together some more stuff of the surflinners i shot in the next few weeks
sony vixia hg20, i have a tripod but i was on a trip to california and took a plane so there was not enough room for a tripod. i also was using the video stabilizer since the train was very shakey
He could not stand at the window, for that was the cab. He was sitting in a passenger seat right near the cab, so this was the best of a shot he could get...
Well you really are not supposed to be in the cabs of a locomotive unless you work for the railroad. this was shot from a cab car so i was in a seat where passengers right behind the cab
i use them when railfaning. I was in a seat and it was very crowed so there was not way to use one

US signals are so different from Canadian ones. The applications and meanings of the exact same indication are completely different.

Looks like a great time!
Next time: Stand AT the window. Don't zoom in unless you see something to zoom in on. Zoom exaggerates camcorder movement and misrepresents speed.
Video all grade crossings in case of any mishap.
If train is going to hit a vehicle, run to the back.

It pretty much was a cab ride. He obviously could get inside of the cab, this is good enough.

Well since it was a cab car the last seat of car can see into the cab so that is where i stood and the crew was nice and did not care

Sorry, Dude, but I killed your video at the 1:41 mark. You had the right seat but the wrong equipment. Hand-holding the camera and shooting through the window three feet away while the train sways is doomed to produce a lousy video. Sorry.
