I did start to wondering at the begging when loaded ..... and then I got it confirmed when it was adjusted..... Did once have a car swinging after me and that was scary..... did speed up to get it strait and then speed up some more.... and then I went driving upwards and the trailer got stable......
Very good you put that car further. It is heavy car. And it is very hard to stop the trailer from waving. Dont know about the Land Rover, but newer Volvos have trailer stability assist. So car will brake the each wheel to stabilize. Have experienced once. Scary. Never again. Stay safe. Merry Christmas and keep up good work.
@@rvarsigfusson6163that’s exactly what I was coming here to say. Most people try to slow down when it starts to move because they panic and that makes it so much worse. Step on the gas and pull it straight and then you can slow down and fix it.
@@2blkSSs I was in a bad situation.... Driving on a gravel road and cars came towards me and then I did have to straight it up before meeting the cars and then it was a straight line down to the see witch was some to many meters to survive....... Did learn a lot of my own control then.
Wonderful channel. I was worried straight away with you using an LR3 to tow an LR4 given that the 4 weighs around 90kg more than the 3, plus a substantial trailer. The recommended max is no more than 85% of the weight of the tow car, otherwise you run the risk of the tail wagging the dog. Plus the 4 was loaded too far back giving an underweight tow hitch which thankfully you stopped to put right. Only if you're towing with the Starship Enterprise can you accelerate quickly enough out of a tank slapper. So, foot off the gas, don't touch the brakes and with your knees pressed into the steering wheel and your elbows into your body, hold the steering wheel straight. The trailer will come into line. Thank God I read up this before my very first towing experience, with a twin axle caravan which was on the 85% limit of my tow car. Frightening experience even though I saved it.
I don’t own a Land Rover but I thoroughly enjoy your content and watch your videos religiously each week. Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy new year to you Christian, Vera & Robin
Kaikōura Stone is from the town of Kaikōura in New Zealand. Kaikōura actually means "eat crayfish" in the native language of Te Reo Māori. Kaikōura stone is the colour of the stone found in the local area, often carved into jewellery. Kudos for stopping, fixing the trailer and accepting your limitations of knowledge. If only more of us would do this! Heavy loads are a fine art. I recently towed nearly 4000kg from UK to HR with my D3. Its was a dream pull and thank god I balanced it properly because my load wasnt so easily adjustable. If youre looking for a buyer for this D4 when you are finished, please get in touch!
We would buy a cheap LR in the UK every year, with a new or long MOT, drive over to HR and then sell it on once the MOT ran out rather than drive all the way back. Croats love their off roaders especially discos and landy's. Whats cheap in the UK is expensive in Croatia
LMFAO and almost burned myself with my coffee watching "Germens" load a Land Rover on a funny looking trailer with too small of a ramp, and a boat winch. OMG!

I haven't finished watching the vid yet, but 3 minutes in I saw you push the load back a bit and I just knew. I did the exact same thing thirty years ago and crashed. Not enough nose weight. I wrote off two cars (mine and someone coming the other way). Fortunately no one got hurt.
Awesome car, guys. Looking forward to the rest of this new series. My 2016 is relatively similar to this one, minus the e-diff and the electric seats (also mine has a so far good engine; changed the oil at 155k km, and no shiny bits in the filter). 10k km so far with no issues. Cheers!
Hello Christian. I have over 300 000 km experience towing cars on trailers. Admittedly, I flipped a trailer once (with a Hilux 4X4 on it). Nonetheless, some advice on how to make it a whole lot less frightening. Before you start loading the trailer, go and stand with your leg right against the neck of the trailer (or, if it's too dirty, against the back bumper of your tow veh*# Rover. Make a metal note of how high on your leg the trailer is. The load should cause the rear of your tow veh*# Rover to drop by about 100 to 150 mm. NEVER tow with a dropper plate arrangement (the kind that people fit to get the towball lower to the ground) this will take even the smallest left/right sway at the hitch and turn it into a major oscillation about the centre longitudinal axis. This is not fun. Also that trailer that you were using is highly unsuitable for towing big, tall cars. Also, you may be making a common error with your ratchet straps. When you feed the tip of the strap throught the ratchet, do NOT pull heavily in the opposite direction - just tug lightly as you start ratcheting. In fact, you should actually use chains towards the rear of the trailer, and straps towards the front.
You’re quickly becoming an LR sanctuary thanks for all great videos over the years and have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year to all your family 👍
Hi Christian and Vera, The new LR looks nice! I would like to share something with you and your audience. I use a spray bottle to spray the winter windshield washer fluid on the windshield and the windows to get rid of the frost, this method doesn’t work on ice. The reason is that the plastic scrapers pick up the tiny sand and grit and scratch the surface as they slide back and forth. I have been doing this for a decade, it’s easy, quick, and it most importantly doesn’t scratch the windshield of my “Toyota” and my Honda Civic before that. The windshields on an LR must be astronomically expensive.
Nice score, really love this colour. Gunmetal wheels would look so much better instead of these depressing black ones. But thats just my taste. You have a great deal on this car because you are able to fix it. For most other people it's just a dead paperweight, to fix it commercially? No it would probably be a totall loss. That is to your advantage, because you have the skill to repair this to high standard in your own time. Looking forward to the coming episodes. And i don't own a LR! Have a great hollyday time and new year, Cheers from the Netherlands.
That must have been a very proud moment for "Old Faithful" LR3 crossing the 300k mark and witnessing a different meaning to the expression "pulling its own weight".
16:20. Yes, very good point. However, we recently sold a Jaguar iPace (yes, before the 'new' Jaguar launch) and in addition to a full dealership service history we had one additional local garage service (changed air filter and checked fluids) before a MOT/TUF. The new buyer (a dealership) wanted to mark-down their offer price by 1,000 GBP because of this. I refused to sell it to him and found another buyer.
well i really do not blame you one bit for buying that car if i had been younger, i would have done the same nice colour as well I am sure that by the time Cristian has finished, it will be a great car and thank you for the video.
FANTASTIC!!! Very exciting to be doing another Discovery engine, can not wait to see more, who wants to go to Spain when you have pretty boy there to work on?
Looking forward to a new build series! I noticed that there are no safety chains on the trailer. These are chains that connect the trailer to the tow vehicle in case the tow point fails. With all the regulations in Germany I thought this was quite strange. Maybe Australia is the only country that mandates these? You definitely had insuficient weight on the tow ball. The best way to stop sway is with electric brakes which you did not have. With electric brakes you brake the trailer without braking the car to slow down the trailer uding the override button. Sway starts when the trailer wants to go faster than the tow vehicle. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas.
I cannot speak for Europe but certainly in the UK a breakaway cable is needed. This is a light wire cable which would put the trailer brakes on if it comes off the towing vehicle.
@@jbbumpkin Yes in Australia I think over 2 tonne we must have a breakaway cable that applies the brakes but in addition on any trailer of any weight the trailed must also be attached using two chains.
The practical limit for my LR4 is about 270kg without overloading the rear axle. That adds 390kg to the axle. I can't even carry my fridge in the back when towing my van with 2 people and minimal other luggage in the car. I really don't know how LR came up with the 350kg figure.
That's the same colour as the Disco Sport i used to have, it also had the Black trim package, and it had beige vented leather seats... Mine was an HSE Lux, with a panoramic glass roof. Nice car, lots of toys, towing assistance camera etc, absolutely shocking service from the Land Rover dealership that sold me it...
I often play you video's while cooking dinner. Constantly laughing along with your humorous dialog. My kids (in their 20s) hear Vera and thinks you guys are awesome. Marry Christmas 🎄 🎉❤
Disco 4 has trailer stability control... But only when it detects your trailer with resistance on your trailer lights and doesn't work with LED lights. If you have LED trailer lights, you need to add some ballast resistors to simulate bulbs.
Hi, Christian and Vera. I love your videos and look forward to the rebuilding of this Disco. Merry Christmas to both of you and your family. From a L322 M62 4.4 UK owner.
Having towed many trailers with loads of all kinds of loads, I have a couple of observations. Yes it’s way too far back. An other observation for trailers carrying vehicles, the ones with wider axles & a lower centre of gravity are a much smoother ride & will have less tendency to snake. Land Rovers with air suspension will self level so you can slightly over load the tow ball without the back of the towing vehicle dipping. Most importantly though. It’s great to see another LR Time project arriving on your driveway. 👍👍
Excellent video, thanks for all the content throughout the year, brilliant technical explanations and the best humour between you both. Merry Christmas 🎄
You both should award yourselves medals the size of dustbin lids for that epic journey of 15 hours. I did a round trip of 5 hours yesterday and I am still recovering and I wasn't pulling a trailer with a discovery on it.
I love long drives. I often go with Philipp for 8 to 10 hour round trips, leaving early in the morning and coming home late. Christian is not used to that long of a driving. Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
100% agree with the air suspension police !! Nice coverage talking about loading and towing. D3s are the best. Looks to be a very nice d4. Great LRtime video
Good evening Vera and Christian 😊 That was awesome and loved how you checked your load. I’m a lorry driver and see so many trailers wagging like a dogs tail 🤪 Always good seeing Robin helping out 👍🏻 `Frohe Weihnachten to you both and hope you have a lovely day cheers Stevie 😎🏴
i have been towing trailers for 10+ years , if you start snaking, swaying side to side, NEVER hit the brake, just take your foot off the throttle and slow down,,,, no gas/no brake and the trailer will stop snaking.. then gently speed up.. richard.
Well done! I have towed a car trailer and have driven thousands of miles with a recovery trailer on the back of my Discovery and you will simply not find a better tow car ! Period! But it’s daunting the first time you do it!

@@Vera_and_Christian Best of luck to Philip, I cross my fingers for no broken bones. Have fun and merry Yuletide
No in the UK it's a necessity as my wife has horses and she fits this on our TDV8 sport it's a cable,, every time she towed,,
I cannot speak for Europe but certainly in the UK a breakaway cable is needed.
You need safety chains in the United States and a breakaway cable if it’s so equipped with electric brakes
Merry Christmas🤗🎄🙏🙋♀️
"I'm so scared." 😅I just found your channel and laughed so much. Best Christmas present so far!!!
Merry Christmas
You guys rock!! 🤘🤘🤘
Best channel on RUclips period.
From 05 D3 TDV6 driver in England.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you both 😊🫡
Merry Christmas🤗🎄🎅🙏🙋♀️
What a great couple! Wonderful episode!
Rule of thumb is 10% of your trailer load on the ball. In Australia the LR4 is allowed 350kg on the ball. 😊
Not sure what it is in germany, but in Norway its 150kg.
@MarkusAJ confusing isn't it
The practical limit for my LR4 is about 270kg without overloading the rear axle. That adds 390kg to the axle. I can't even carry my fridge in the back when towing my van with 2 people and minimal other luggage in the car. I really don't know how LR came up with the 350kg figure.
Yeah UK and Europe is 150kg... Which means you can't properly balance a 3.5t load. Ridiculous rules. Buy a strong hitch and forget the law!

The Symphony of technology is coming alive.....❤❤
I often play you video's while cooking dinner. Constantly laughing along with your humorous dialog. My kids (in their 20s) hear Vera and thinks you guys are awesome.
Marry Christmas 🎄 🎉❤
Merry Christmas🤗🎄🤶🙏🙋♀️
Disco 4 has trailer stability control... But only when it detects your trailer with resistance on your trailer lights and doesn't work with LED lights. If you have LED trailer lights, you need to add some ballast resistors to simulate bulbs.
But not when it's the car on the trailer, it doesn't!! Their tow car is their D3. Don't know if that has trailer stability control or not?
Our RR has trailer stability. Never tried it. Our LR4 does not have it. Our LR3 certainly not.
Hi, Christian and Vera. I love your videos and look forward to the rebuilding of this Disco. Merry Christmas to both of you and your family. From a L322 M62 4.4 UK owner.
Thanks
Having towed many trailers with loads of all kinds of loads, I have a couple of observations. Yes it’s way too far back.
An other observation for trailers carrying vehicles, the ones with wider axles & a lower centre of gravity are a much smoother ride & will have less tendency to snake.
Land Rovers with air suspension will self level so you can slightly over load the tow ball without the back of the towing vehicle dipping.
Most importantly though. It’s great to see another LR Time project arriving on your driveway. 👍👍
Thanks.
Excellent video, thanks for all the content throughout the year, brilliant technical explanations and the best humour between you both. Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Vera & Christian🎄🎅 another great video 😀
🤗🎄🎅🙏🙋♀️
Thankyou Vera and Christian.what a team and merry Christmas and happy new year.
Merry Christmas 🎄
You two make me laugh, you are the best double act an you tube !
Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
👍💪
Just discovered your channel from here in Australia. Loving it so far. Thanks for your hard work. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺

sundays become very boring without a video from LR time
Good evening Vera and Christian 😊 That was awesome and loved how you checked your load. I’m a lorry driver and see so many trailers wagging like a dogs tail 🤪 Always good seeing Robin helping out 👍🏻 `Frohe Weihnachten to you both and hope you have a lovely day cheers Stevie 😎🏴
Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
More weight on the handlebars 😅
Absolutely the best video ever. Love the back-and-forth commentary!
😅🙏🙋♀️
I guess that's one way of making sure that you have the correct spare part when your car breaks down, just carry a spare car. 🎅🎄🥂
Congratulations on your new Brownie! And Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from Copenhagen.

It’s not Brown, it’s Bronze 👍😁
As always a very nice video with all the good humour in it….. 😃👍🏻
Happy Christmas and New Year for you also….. 🎄🎅
Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
I don’t blame Vera, I don’t want a Jaguar anymore either.
😃🙏🙋♀️
i have been towing trailers for 10+ years , if you start snaking, swaying side to side, NEVER hit the brake, just take your foot off the throttle and slow down,,,, no gas/no brake and the trailer will stop snaking.. then gently speed up.. richard.
Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr. Love your videos and your Land Rover expertise. We miss Germany.
Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
Well done! I have towed a car trailer and have driven thousands of miles with a recovery trailer on the back of my Discovery and you will simply not find a better tow car ! Period! But it’s daunting the first time you do it!
The algorithm recommended this video and I am happy about that. Great personality, wonderful smiles, and great attitudes. Subbed from USA.
Thanks. We post every Sunday. Merry Christmas 🎄(Christmas evening is on the 24th in Europe).
Just found you guys you two are hilarious.

You guy's are awesome. I had to "Work" over the festive period so I have binged watched probably 90% of your video's. I think I could now pass a LR engine rebuild exam no problem..
