I got my dad to stop on a busy road so that I could save a snapping turtle on it. It spun around super fast when I tried to pick it up, and I almost got bitten. It was big, so i couldn't pick it up, and the road was busy so i couldn't "wheel-barrow" it to safety. Instead, I realized that it was still trying to bite me. I literally got it to chase me off of the road, so that both of us got to safety. I'm glad he was an angry turtle, because if he didn't follow me off the road, IDK if he would be alive.
Slide hand under the shell by the tail & lift. You can use the tail to hold him in place while sliding your hand under, but do NOT pick up by the tail. It can severely injure the snapper.
I have a question. I do marine construction and bulkhead. We do allot of digging where we work mostly Marsh areas where we see allot of alligator snapping turtles. Well we were using machine and bunch if turtle eggs uncovered. I grabbed them and took them away to another save spot dug a hole didn't know how deep it supposed to be and covered them with sand so other predators won't get them. So did I do it right?
I picked up a few from the sides while keeping the head faced away from my body so it won't attack. I have moved a few off busy roads and highways to ensure they reach a safe point and not get ran over. I think Georgia still has a law on running over turtles anyway. The only thing that gets me is that when they hiss at me, that tells me one of two things - either they're defending or they're gasping for air.
This is misinformation and it is not a large snapping turtle. Snapping turtles are very agile a large one could reach over and in a split second latch onto your nose. These are wild animals, which makes them unpredictable. She actually takes her eyes off the animal and looks at the camera. As if she's dealing with a pet
snapping turtles necks can only extend around about 2/3 of their body length. They're only going to grab your nose if your face is a foot away from them lol
They have incredibly long necks. Picking it up by the middle puts you in biting distance. Their mouths are like razors. Even if it doesn't bite a finger off, which it can do, it'll get a massive chunk of flesh. And they can bite twice in under a second.
I appreciate what she was trying to do but that was horrible. Aside from not being able to hear very well because of the wind, she didn't show "How to pick up a snapping turtle" at all. A for effort though.
Your safe within the bottom 1/3rd of the shell? Ok now try that with one 3x the size that can turn on a dime. Saw one today that was not having it. Started chasing US! LOL

It can be detrimental to the turtle by handing the tail .
I love the dullards who just walk on by and are not at all curious.
Poor demo, literally slammed the poor turtle onto the rough surface of the ground
Thank you because I'm always helping these guys across the road 💚🐢💚🌿
I will do so if i see one
There's 2 minutes I'll never get back. You didn't show us how to pick it up.
After watching this,, I'm confident I can just lip one like a Bass.
Wheelbarrow move.. WTF
Good there’s some
In my area and I want to help them so they don’t get run over
Can't hardly hear what she's saying but due to the wind

No. They require a specific temperature range to develop

You can pick up a little farther up the shell than that and just carry them
No bueno. The claws on the back legs will slice your fingers up unless you have thick gloves on. Ask me how I know.
The hind claws of smaller aquatic turtles can hurt you you let alone the claws of a snapper.
I like the wheelbarrow one. Ha ha

She looks extremely unsure of herself
Cameras do that to people lol
That and being that close to something that can take off your fingers in a Flash
She's looking around at all the pedestrians on the trail.
I saved two this year they’re so cute
What’s the problem with just grabbing it by the middle!?

Lol hahahaha this video cracked me up
THANK YOU!!!
Is this a joke?
In her mind she's Steve Irwin handling a massive croc 🤣. Her fear of that lil guy was funny but she probably shouldn't be handling wildlife lol
