My mother loved classical music. When I was in my early teens and playing the "Paranoid" album - War Pigs in particular, she came over and told me that she liked his voice. She said when he sings, he sounds like he's crying - she could hear the emotion. I think there's some truth to that - he has a very unique mournful quality to his voice.

TRULY involved IN, the WHOLE "OZZY OSBOURNE SHOW" etc. that is, up until I read former OZZY bassist Rudy Sarzo's book "Off the Rails", not too drastically long after it's debut.... THAT BOOK, and another one called "The OZZY OSBOURNE BAND" ARE? ESSENTIAL "OZZY BAND" READING material! 🤌 ESPECIALLY? For fans of the great Randy Rhoads!.... But yeah, to be brutally honest? It WAS, quite the eye opener for myself, personally to actually "see", just, HOW MUCH Sharon WAS truly, behind soooo MANY of Ozzy's overall antics/STAGE SHOWS and, on n on...... TRULY eye opening! 👀, indeed ........😎🤘🔥🤘

Sabbath got popular because of Iommi's brilliant compositions and songwriting. And I'm not saying all vocalists need to have insane vocal range. But they need to have a unique sound when they sing. Ozzy was blessed to have always been surrounded by great musicians.

Neil has a point, but not one that's not already widely believed (that Ozzy's voice, while unique, isn't technically competent). But rock isn't about technical competence; it's about character, bringing something original to the table. And in that respect - as well as Ozzy's ability to write vocal melodies, etc. - Ozzy is a talent. I agree with you there, Ralph. Neil's point about Ozzy surrounding himself with top-shelf musicians is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I always considered Ozzy's greatest talent is his ability to see talent and make the most of it, giving musicians a platform to showcase their talents. Bottom line: is Ozzy's voice technical fantastic? No, but it does't need to be. Is he Dio? No, but he's a unique talent that we should enjoy unto itself.

  • @samuelgirard1407
    @samuelgirard1407 15 часов назад

It's hard to give a short answer to this. No doubt Ozzy always had talent as a performer, but yes his voice may not be everyone's taste. He had a great band in Black Sabbath but he was a PART of that greatness. After he got kicked out I think it became a team effort. We can call it Team Ozzy: Sharon with her connections & influence with her Dad, to get him up out of the hotel in LA where he was drunk & depressed with pizza boxes everywhere. To Dana Strum, later bassist for Slaughter to tell him about Randy Rhoads & set up the rehearsal. And for keeping Ozzy awake during the rehearsal to hear Randy coming through that amp! To Bob Daisley for writing those wonderful lyrics & Randy writing that music & playing it so exquisitely.
After this yeah we know Sharon crushed anyone & everything in her path ruthlessly! But after the terrible tragedy of Randy's death, Brad Gillis stepped up as well as best he could. To Jake E. Lee being so awesome! And if we hadn't have gotten Jake, we would've had George Lynch before we got Zakk Wylde. Not to mention Rudy Sarzo & Tommy Aldridge when Sharon crushed Bob & Lee Kerslake! So YES Ozzy's OZZY!! And he's always been awesome, and today is his Birthday! So Happy Birthday, Ozzy!! But he has had an awesome team around him too including Sabbath. So it's Team Ozzy! GO TEAM!

Ozzy has a uniquely eerie bluesy soulful golden voice, the young Ozzy 100% nailed his vocals accurately live in Paris in 1970. Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot never broke through with Randy Rhoads, yet those 3 rare Quiet Riot reunion show bootlegs from 5-29-80 and 5-30-80 when a leveled up Randy Rhoads came home on break, after the Blizzard of Ozz album was recorded, lit the spark that eventually pushed Kevin over the top…Randy Rhoads fans should check out ruclips.net/video/XVhcuO13tAU/видео.htmlsi=YuYquqar4lzO6hTp🎸🤟🏼

He absolutely can and no vocal coach would ever agree with that statement. Having a unique timbre doesn't make you a bad singer. His technique even improved as he progressed through his career. You can judge him based on the first album of his career bud. Also there was no vocal processing and they made the album in a day. His vocal melodies alone made many of the songs iconic. Bad singers don't come up with great vocal melodies. No one can listen to sabatoge and call that bad singing. If he is lucky then obviously the people he's worked with would be successful without him. None of them have come close. Micheal Jackson surrounded himself with great musicians and producers but you would never use that as a slight on his career. You're just repeating what others have said.

I don't know how much of the lyrics did Ozzy write, he's supposed to be dyslexic or something but writing the melody which is half the music to world wide timeless songs puts him in the mega talented group of musicians for me. I'm very surprised when people consider him talentless and even more that coming from someone inside the music business. As you said, if someone doesn't like his voice is a whole different thing

Somebody sounds butthurt that somebody basically just told you the truth about Ozzy. He doesn't have a great voice, his stage presence is goofy. He is talented, but not talented enough to do anything without all the talent that he had around him his whole career. So don't cry, it's okay, you'll get over it, and tomorrow is a new day lol

    • @mr.brenman2132

That's completely false. Ozzy is a great singer. Excellent and unique timbre. His technique improved over time. His vocal melodies are genius and enhance every song they are apart of. His stage movements might have been quirky in his dotage but in his prime he was one of the best. He's a star because he has the it factor. Sharon knew that from the beginning. There have been a lot of great musicians that have written a lot of great songs. Why weren't they as popular as Ozzy? Ozzy didn't make top 40 music either. No one he has every worked with has ever been as successful without him. Everything he's ever done has been successful regardless of the musicians. It's plug and play. You could literally apply your logic to Michael Jackson but you never would. It's a ridiculous statement.

The most false thing ever said. Something you would never apply to any other musician or singer. No vocal coach would ever call him a bad singer. His melodies are genius and made the legendary songs he's been apart of even more iconic. If he had nothing to do with his success then the musicians he has worked with would have had equal or more success without him. None of them have. None of them have Cone close. Not even Tony Iommi.

Definitely like Ozzy's voice/singing most in the 70's and his first couple of solo albums. After that, I'm just not a huge fan. Example, I'll take his voice any day on a song like Sabbath's Dirty Women over that duet he did with Lita Ford

Ozzy may not be as good of a singer as Dio or Serj Tankian but, his voice is still amazing & he's one of my all-time favorite singers. Maybe if UFO had Ozzy as their singer, they'd be more than just a footnote in heavy metal history.

So many great rock vocalist couldn't hold a proper note like a real singer to save their lives. Ozzy and DLR I would put somewhere toward the top of that non-singer vocal stylist heap. Ronnie Dio was a real singer. See the difference? A singer vs. A vocal stylist. Who's the clown hittin' all the proper notes? That ain't rock-n-roll man! Oh, it's just Graham Bonnet. Meh...Gimmie Ozzy and the like anyday.

You either get Ozzy or you don't. He's the lunatic who escaped the asylum, and found himself somehow in front of a microphone in a rock band. That's all you need to know. Don't try and overthink it. He can sing music box inspired melodies over thunderous guitar riffs, and weave a kind of magic and madness that blend effortlessly together in song. Can he sing YES!

What he's saying is true, but misses the larger point. On the one hand, Ozzy had a ton of musicians that were the true creative juices of the band. Ozzy doesn't write. BUT, Ozzy as a front man is up there with Plant, DLR, etc. Maybe not now, but back in the day Ozzy had the most unique voice in heavy metal. You know it's him the first line of the song. He entertained like Alice Cooper or KISS in showmanship with the his outfits, his stage antics, and the way he interacted with the audience.
I don't agree with the way Ozzy treated so many of his bandmates, but his talent can't be denied. Just because he didn't write, doesn't mean he wasn't important. Jack Nicholson didn't write his parts, but his acting can't be denied.

Ozzy has the most unique singing voice ever in my opinion. No one sounds like Ozzy or even close to him. Musicians like Don Airey, Jake E Lee, Tony Iommi and even Bob Daisley have all said that Ozzy wrote all the melidies and that it came easily to him. That is definitely a talent.

Along with millions of other people around the world

I wouldn't be here to actually write this
Without Ozzy helping me through life so far 😀

Is to possibly set up a gynecological appointment

I know it’s all subjective, but if you take his vocals on Sabotage… I don’t believe there’s another vocalist could ever lend that distinctive presence to the songs on that album. Have also heard Halford singing with Sabbath and the Ozzy numbers were not as good… and that’s coming from me as a huge Priest fan.
Plus if he was that bad, Bob Daisley wouldn’t have played with him, would he? Lol
