    Blimey, Gary, considerably more technical than your usual videos. I love it! Thanks.

    Great video, Gary! This should be a really powerful feature in Numbers. Thanks for highlighting it!

    The still picture for this video appears to be incorrect as it says at the top "Using Locked Tables In Mac Numbers".

    Thanks, very useful video, but a little complicated, might because the subject is complicated, or maybe need a source for study. on COUNTMATCHES Examples table seems on A3 you wanted to write: 'this' and 'that'? \w is counting also numbers.

    So with the duplicate word counter, could you change it so that it only picks up duplicates of words outside of commas? Such as ‘no people, no, no time,’ etc would not be duplicates. But ’no people, no people,’ would. This would be very helpful for me when keywording for metadata.

    Now Apple, give me regrex in finder search. Should be easy. GREP is already part of UNIX/Linux

    Great news for regular expressions in Numbers - though I wish Numbers' Edit > Find... window could use regular expressions. It doesn't seem like you can. Am I mistaken?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 года назад

      No. But what do you need it for there? Can you use a formula to do that search for you?

    • @JohnnyHands
      @JohnnyHands 4 года назад

      @@macmost If you have, say, a scrabble dictionary spreadsheet, and you're doing a find, then you get the number of matches, and you can advance through all the matches to look at them. If, using a regex formula, there was a way to put them all, one-to-a-cell, in a (previously) empty column, I'd be all for it. (Admittedly, I haven't done much with spreadsheets lately, so I haven't thought about how a formula could do that - maybe there is a way.)

      @@JohnnyHands So you would put all of your words in a long table (Words) with two columns. The first column is words. The second column has the formula FIND(REGEX(Search::$A$1),A1) in it. Then a second 1x1 table (Search) is where you enter your regular expression, like "^a.*b$" Then the results of the FIND function in that second column are all 1 (match) and error (no match). Then you click on the top of that second column and choose to apply a filter to the Words table to only show rows with a 1 result. Then you just see those words (the ones that start with a and end with b). Change the value of the cell in the Search table and you get new results.

    Hi,
    I wanted to khow that like "ctrl + d" option on excel feature is available on apple numbers. If yes that whats the shortcut.

      What does Ctrl-D do in Excel?

      @@JohnnyHands copy above cells below, as same text or formula.
      Like if we have selected 10 continues cells in a column and on 1st cell there is a text or formula, and when we press ctrl + d all balance 9 cells get same text or formula as above 1st cell

      @@gautamgarg365 Sorry, I'm not expert enough in Numbers to answer if there is an equivalent key command, but copying a cell's formula, then selecting those 9 same-column cells below it, the pasting will have same effect. Or, select the middle-bottom of border and dragging the yellow circle down over those 9 cells will also have the same effect. You may already know all this.

    Thanks Gary! That's a really interesting video about a really interesting new feature. 👍
    But... Isn't there something strange/wrong with example #8 (at 4:56)? Description says "First name starts with A, last name starts with J taking into account middle names", but I can't find any reference to letter 'A'.
    Am I missing something? 😳
