Amanda is a true inspiration and those of us who have been following her for the last 4 years know the ups and downs. This is not a fad for her, it is a life of forced inconvenience to seek out what is actually important in life.
My favorite van dweller ever! I want to meet her some day! Maybe she can teach this old lady backpacking! So inspiring and refreshing. I filled two pages with notes for my build. Such a blessing to find this right now. I want to start simple. I love her attitude to help people. Her grandparents are blessed to have her as their granddaughter!
I just love your viewpoint and life choices. I totally agree. I moved into a van similar --an E350 Ford Econoline. My first night was the most blissful of all. There was no rent or utilities to think about and it was a blast.
This may have been the best "van tour" video I've seen. When our eyes are closed, if the bed is comfortable, the vans all look the same for 7 or 8 hours don't they? May each day bring you the Peace of a campfire, the joy of chocolate, the comfort of a friend (or Frank) and the delight of your first kiss. Thanks for sharing.
We are doing the same and while the space is a tight fit we really love it!! What could be better than quality time with your best friend in your waning years? Shalom and Happy Trails to you! 🚐👍👵
Love the layout bed sideways at end storage underneath and her grandads cupboard built against walls are awesome!! Love the insulated zipped up curtain too. Need 2nd one of those at rear doors
This has to be one of my very favorite videos, ever. Thanks for this. She is doing what I wish I had done when I was young, but I've done it since, and I love it, too. I have a tiny house on wheels that I live in full time, and I'm thinking of getting a van, and selling or renting out my house for a while. Itchy feet!
Amanda hits the nail on the head: re: parking; other van dwellers need to be discreet. Fair or not, what you do does affect others. Like the vid. btw. :)
Nice lady. Sensible approach & no fancy interior. Shows how simple a van can be. I like her philosophy. Wish I had the courage to pack up and Van up. 😁
Absolutely! everyone has their own way to do van life and she has kept it simple and effective for her life. You could always try some weekend trips and get a feel for it.
You are wise beyond your age and on a great adventure, so refreshing to see a young person who is not all about greed, stuff and money.. There really are more important things in life. I watched a lot of van builds and it being glorified, it is not for everyone. So my hats off to you for not letting other people dictate how you should live.
Wow 5 years! The van is great, simple and functional. Amanda and Frank seem quite happy and Frank is really living the life. Great video. I have noticed that you film a lot at Clover Point. I did notice another van in the background that I think is a home too. I can't believe since following this lifestyle, just how many van dwellers there are here. :) Thanks Forrest!
You can do it! I’m actually planning for full time van living myself- I’m 56 and finally free and able to set out to follow my dreams - hope you will also
Amanda...I love your vibrations and style. You are so tuned in. Yes, discreet... incognito ...not showing off ... dwelling free'r ...and calmly doing the things in life that truly have deeper meaning. I've been invisibly living van life for 21 years now. I've learned not to accept the mindset of people who don't understand the bliss of van life. I can only control what I choose to think and do, so I'm focused on the love being shared. By focusing on love, and existing with the Spiritual Family, it's like a form of 'rising above the adversities' in a more solid meaningful existance. I love your positive thinking and your choices of van life living, doing more hiking, being more in nature, and enjoying your sweet amazing dog. Thank you for doing this blog. Many blessings to you and your beautiful dog🌻🎶🙏🌸🌎🛸🦉🎶
Nicely laid out to suit the personal taste and style of the owner - as it should be! The use of wood creates a lovely travel cabin ambience that's welcoming, warm and cosy. By taking a stand against paying the lion's share of your income on rent, the builder has created a freer, healthier, more contented lifestyle. And more time to do the things she wants to.
I love that you have extra hiking stuff to take friends along. I turned to van life so I could hike more and get further from my home base. I find trailheads are great stealth spots to stay the day before and after my hikes. I don't feel any job is stable anymore. Love how simple and organized your build is, mine is what I dub, just a big backpack, after 40 yrs of grid, I now have solar :)
Amanda, you are so inspiring to me. I, too, can no longer afford to rent on my SSI income, and would really prefer to live by myself. I am looking for a van to do an affordable conversion and your build really takes the expense out of it! Thank you so much for this video and stay in touch!
Such an intelligent and generous human being who understands the truth of land, and lives as simply as I could imagine. Love that she acknowledges the importance of grandparents. Best wishes for your rich and interesting life with its very small footprint.
I like your advice! Your van is still way more organized that what I had. But yes, I too, had a lot of fun in it. It's only a place to sleep in and hide on occasion. What a lot of people don't know is our lives happen outside the van most of the time. Many people build homes so they can do everything without leaving the house, almost. I think van life affords you to do the reverse. Your life is out there to be enjoyed and savored with friends and loved ones.
I like this woman. Like her view on life. Like how she is antispoiled and adaptable. Love how positive she is. Love how smart she is. What I get from this build is just do it and this looks so simple and doable. Don't need a hightop either
Wonderful philosophy Amanda! This makes me want to downsize my large motor home and simplify everything. I like how the cabinets work. I'd probably miss having a 'real bathroom' the most, but I'm learning more all the time from so many excellent van life stories. Thank you for sharing yours. 5 years is super!
Your van is beautiful! You are sooo right! Why pay for someone else to have. I will be doing what you are when I retire (I'll only be living on like $500 a month) but that is OK, the L-rd ALWAYS provides! I never want to own property anyway because I do not want to pay the government any more taxes than I have to. Thank you for your tour. Shalom and G-d bless you!
But if you own property and you pay property taxes then you’re helping your neighbourhood to build or maintain better roads and infrastructure improvements, schools and police and emergency services. That’s what your taxes pay and a list of other things that people benefit from. If you use the road to drive your vehicle and you go to the drs when your sick then why wouldn’t you pay for it?
Why don’t you go ahead and get your van, and slowly start your conversion so when u get ready to retire u will have a smoother transition..I wish we’d done that!!
I love your attitude, philosophy and way of life. I find very refreshing and inspirational. I have two questions, Do you mostly live in a colder climate? And how do you handle ventilation and circulation of air? None of your windows appear to be the kind you can open and shut. That said, Stay safe, Be careful, and Keep on rolling.
As a programmer, i was slightly offended by "this is where i would computer" ( i wasn't really :D ), and when she got to the food part, i knew this was going to be a great video! congrats on your 5yrs!

Just an idea, solar lights that we use in the garden can come inside for light. Low light, but at least something. You can cluster them in a pot outside to charge in the sun. (Good for power outages) Just set them into a vase,.you could even just have a bathroom cup holder anchored to the wall and drop the light stem in. So impressed you did the PCT, I follow many hikers , was your hike on RUclips ?

I've always like having a vehicle I could easily wrench on or be able to get parts for. I do actually long to live this way and have for a few years now. I'm tired of cleaning a house! What is life if not able to enjoy life to the fullest. Our earth has all the natural resources to live a beautiful outdoor life with good health, joy, uplifting presence and peace. My husband and I have raised our three children, now adults with children with living an outdoor life as much as possible. Now all of us get together at times during the year enjoying walking, bicycling, sports, camping, fishing, kayaking and hunting. May God bless you in your journey living life🙏
I’m so impressed with your philosophy of life and the way you live your truths. Happiness is hard to come by.
You go girl. keeping it real and simple=happiness!!!
absolutely agree with Amanda about the land - this insanity with over developing / over charging rentals - van dwelling is freedom and van dwellers must be discreet... enjoyed this video a lot - thanks for sharing :)
