In the late 1400s, several developments in Europe paved the way for European exploration in the Americas. In this video, Kim Kutz Elliott discusses how Portugal led the charge with new navigation technology, and how the unification of Spain set the stage for Columbus's voyage in 1492. - Хобби

love these videos! The visuals and maps are extremely helpful.
My teacher didn't order the questions in the way we found the answer...
The BEST lesson I have yet to come across on the reason behind the route that spawned the "easterlies"! Thank you,
I’m scrolling through the comments instead of watching this lol
when Constantine (the white spot that the arrow went through) fell, the conquerors banned Europe from the Indian spice trade, which meant they had to find another route leading to the discovery of the new world.
So modern and ancient history is sometimes divided at the fall of Constantine.
I love how there's like a bunch of random adults complementing the video and then theres the occasional danganronpa fan saying GUNDHAM TANAKA
The fact that im watching this for class and is a danganronpa youtuber lol!!
Nice and concise! Great job!
Who can write me a summary of this video?
Look at the description
Should people looking to study for AP US history on their own use this course. Would anyone recommend it?
Yes, this is a part of the APUSH course on khan academy
I was expecting more POV's
Very beautiful and interesting, and most importantly, cognitive for children.
my mother have your app
They make it sound wrong that Spain wanted it conquered territory back.
Canary? More like "Can't quite carry" the mouse pointer to the actual islands.
But in all seriousness, I think this is still a good video, and Khan Academy's stuff is awesome!
I wonder if vikings from further north ever made contact with the americas before their more southern european counterparts?
at 6:15
those aren't the Canary Islands..
Dude thanks for pointing that out! There's a lot of witty comments on here, but yours was actually informative.
I found an error. On the map at 6:00, it says *Guinea,* but that's actually *Guinea-Bissau.*
(I'm not old enough to leave comments on Khan Academy, so I'm putting it here)
Sonic Hedgehog what’s up sonic
Just rolling around at the speed of sound lol
Sonic Hedgehog can’t believe i met you man that’s craxy

@@locaImx YES THANK YOU
Hello
did you ever say anything about slaves?
I do appreciate this summary; and history, true history that is, is most refreshing. Although, forced conversion really wasn't practiced; it is a bit of false propaganda at that.
those are not the canary islands. those are cape verde as shown in the map
@Malem Naoshram You're in here a lot...
this video is insane !!!! ( 2S3 :)
@Malem Naoshram what
And I bet they thought the world was round.
#510 came from 510!
Malem Naoshram wut are you trying to say
Bruh 1.5 or 1.25 speed thank me later play music while listening to.
Much like modern days, I suspect Europeans would rather go around the world than cut through the "bad " neighborhood...
yeeyee
9:15 The Reconquista was not an "extension" of the crusades------ They were totally separate despite being Christian missions
Reconquista was the Spanish GETTING THEIR LAND BACK from the muslims that stole it from them
So its not fair to call it "an extension of the crusades'........... The crusades was a mission to establish a safe haven for Christians in the middle east.... which was Christian before islam
i am Irish you know >:(
Hey granny
first comment 😂😂
"Learnt People " Just say the Moorish African people.
