Their music knowlege/crate digging skills are/were insane
I read a Beastie interview a while back where they talked about how their daily itinerary in the 90s was to wake up, make coffee and breakfast, smoke pot, and then go to record stores in L.A. Crate-digging was their profession lol.
I wish I had that profession.
Being a beastie boys fan growing up with their cassettes and hearing these samples opened up a whole world of music to me, that I would have never otherwise found. Not many groups/bands can do that.

Beastie boys
The Beastie's dug deep. God damn.
In my opinion...There best album from start to finish.✌🏼🏴
That's a tough call. I'd go with ill communication today but it's not by much
Pauls boutique bro!!
Their
@@Strimbles lol
@@sandos91 ill communication had better overall production quality, but it was build up from what they learn doing CYH. It could not exist with it. CYH is better for its raw value and how it changed things, IMHO.
No mention of the Cheap Trick sample that starts the album? It’s Robin Zander introducing “Surrender” from Live At Budokan.
Eric Jenkins first thing I looked for in the comments
Not gonna lie, always thought that was Mike D...
I ran a record store when this was released and there was a nationwide contest with a hotline for answering where the sample that opens the album originated. The store owner and I opened our daily mail (aka promos) and immediately popped in the cassette, pressed play, looked at each other and screamed, "CHEAP TRICK!" Alas, the contest was already won.
Yup -- was waiting for that to be first one out of the gate!!
pulphope me too! All these years. I still sometimes forget it’s not him.
No doubt the Beasties are masters of sampling. This was my favorite Beasties album. Was waiting for this video.
These videos are so awesome. It's incredible how the Beasties take such small clips and put them together into musical masterpieces. What music geniuses they were...
I think it's also incredible how you were able to find the original songs & put them together in this format. The work you put into these videos is amazing. Hats off to you sir!
That’s why MCA says ‘if you can feel what I’m feeling then this is a musical masterpiece, hear what I’m feeling well then that’s cool at least…’
They always had good production on their albums

There was a big lawsuit filed by James Newton for the flute sample on "Pass the Mic". The Beastie Boys cleared the sample with the record company, ECM, but they never notified Newton, who claimed that he should've have received songwriter credits for the sample. The court denied Newton's case.
Check Your Head is hands down the best Beastie Boys record. No one will ever change my mind.
Cool...but it's Ill Communication.

Nooooo argument over here
Some genius shit going on here
I got so much stress in my life right now but this just helped me zone out a bit and feel like everything might be ok.
8:07 DAMN, i always thought that the So Watcha Want riff was written by the Beasties, What a fool lol
Luiz _ x mee too fck!

Just give me some wood and i'll build you a cabinet
I've been waiting for this video!
It's my favorite album from the Beastie Boys.
Thank you for making this!
This why they are brilliant musicians. Brilliant artist, collage artists. 👍🏻💯🎤 I love the beastie boys. They take a little of each and creat their own masterpieces. Smh...they are inspiring, on my own art. I'm an artist/ illustrator. And when I'm drawing or painting, I listen to them and pink Floyd. They remind me of pink Floyd. My 2 favourite bands.
Left Cheap Trick sample off.... it’s the 1st side ... 1st sentence we hear: THIS IS THE 1st SONG ON THE 1st SIDE OF OUR NEW ALBUM....
Paul's boutique is their best record. This is pretty great too.
Pauls boutique was wack
Jamie Williams wrong
@@miguelorozco4445 you're wrong
What a unique Pitchfork hipster chump viewpoint.
How many stars had to come into alignment for the magic of the Beastie Boys to have happened. This is my favorite record album from my favorite band. In all of humanity's existence, how grateful I am to have been alive the same time as these guys. Rest in peace, Adam. Thanks, dude for posting this mix! I'm stoked!!!
What about the Cheap Trick sample at the start of the album?
Amazing! Could never make that album in 2019. You would lose millions of dollars.. thanks for the upload!
damn, good work!
EDIT: just an fyi , you are doing gods work
CRATE DIGGIN IS LIFE AND LOVE. IT COMES NATURAL FOR SOME OF US. IT'S NOTHING MORE THAN PASSION FOR SOUNDS. VINYL IS BLOOD....RUNNING THROUGH THE VIENS.
Omg never connected the thin lizzy sample that’s so freaking cool, two of my favorite groups ever
Wow! I thought it was the Beasties performing it >.
Plis!... Dj Shadow endtroducing
That would be a short but great to hear
I have been loving this album since 92 and this video brought a sense of closure to me, thank you for all the work putting it together.
This is a brilliant piece of work compiling all of these samples with album artwork and everything. Very nicely done, and you have made my day if not my year. I can't thank you enough. At the same time, I beg you to go back and complete what you have started. Just off the top of my head I can think of a few samples that are missing here, from Cheap Trick to NWA and Public Enemy. Not much, but you missed a few. Thanks again for what you have done here. So much amazing music I never would have known about if not for your efforts. Johnny Hammond? Kool and the Gang in 1969? Holy s__t! That's so good.
one of my favorite albums ever! so good.
Please, make a video “The samples: Gustavo Cerati edition”
Gustavo cerati 😍
I dare you to take on Paul's boutique.
haro82 it’s already done! Search for it, you won’t be disappointed!
Professor Booty is such a weird one for me! Seeing an actual video of the guys talking is trippy!
Missing the sample from "Surrender" (Cheap Trick Live at Budokan, 1978), the first sample on the disc. Congratulations for the work !!!
Prity Rodrigues thanks for that matey.
I know my videos aren’t perfect and sometimes I miss a couple, but that’s what the comment section is for 😊
Check Your Head was a MASTERPIECE
That Fearless Four sample itself samples 'Man Machine' by Kraftwerk
My Beastie Boys favorite álbum.
I was stoked when this album was released. I though some of the samples were them playing And the number of samples on Paul's Boutique is insane, thanks for all of your hard work to make these! Image how long it took the Beastie boys to make these albums from the discovery of the music to be sampled to the finished product. Paul's is my favorite, check your head & I'll Comm. Close 2nd.
PE's It takes a nation would be dope as f too. Thanks for making this !!!
Thanks for this.
. I really appreciate your work
NY drill rappers: We sample the most songs out of any NY musician.
Beastie Boys: *did somebody say most samples*
Yes ! Just started watching, thumbs up instantly...
Nice one Bruv. 👍✌🏼
The wine sample It does go well with the chicken Segways perfect with the horns that sound exactly like a rooster
My love for you is genuine and still probably not enough. Thank you! Great work.
Samples for days! Crazy I never knew how many were all in one Beastie song. Amazing work compiling this!
It's amazing to see how much of the album that I grew up with was samples and still hand it to them, it's so transformative. It isn't just taking something from an old rock song and looping it but meshing several tracks together.
And also, consider they did this pre-Internet or AI, finding dozens to hundreds of sounds to weave together. From random things for the Flying Nun to crafting the different basses on Professor Booty.
I wonder though if I missed it, where did So whatcha want's "you can't fun on that" come from.
Public Enemy - "It Takes a Nation..." , De La Soul - "3 feet high and rising" would be cool. Keep up the good work.
THIS NEXT ONE
IS THE FIRST SONG

Why Im getting the Tony Hawk pro Skater menu vibes from Jimmy James?
Loving these all so much! You are the best for putting these together! Any chance of a Hello Nasty edition next? Would love to figure out all those samples!!
Please, explores the samples of APHRODITE, drum and bass/jungle style! thanks.
Thank you for this
Found most of these on discogs
mmmmm… it does go well with the chicken
Excellent video.I'm gonna check these songs out
Jesus. The very first bit of audio on the album (This next one is the first song on our new album) is a sample of Robin Zander on Cheap Trick's At Budokan. How do you miss the first one?
While I love the BBs and this is one of my fav albums, I never realised that alot of the music on this one used so many samples. I actually thought they played the music with instruments. A tiny part of me is crushed knowing this.
Dont be, crate digging is an art in itself. Finding a small sample on a rare record and mixing it with other hard to find gems is time consuming and requires a knack for listening. Its not an accident that this record was good. Most of these old records would never get mentioned or played again if it wasn't for talented producers. Besides, they paid for most of these samples.
They also played instruments along with samples
me too.
Do hello nasty
Justin Fencsak Stay subscribed and you’ll get it ... it’s coming.
Great beats, great samples, but when they open their mouths, incredibly annoying.
The Spanish sample, can't remember what it's from, but my mom pulled out her 45 of the original lol.
Beasties: the best mashup tribute band ever
So the Pass the Mic guitar riff is actually a Bad Brains sample. Cool
does anyone know where the bass line from "in 3's" comes from? mca plays it but it's from a blue note type jazz piece that i am trying to locate.
VERY INTERESTING ❤ I HAVE THE CD AND SHIRT. MANY GOOD MEMORIES IN MY CHILDHOOD. REST IN PEACE MCA❤❤❤❤❤
This wasn’t heralded as a sample heavy album like Paul’s was…. Maybe it should be…
Venom sample haha
You can argue about the rapping skills, but they are definitely sampling geniuses and crate digging extraordinaire. My favorite album, you know that summer album between high school and college!
Whos arguing about the rapping skills?
Literally no one is arguing about the rapping skills boy.
Hello nasty please
Jimmy would of cost 2 billion dollars to make today
It's weird though, they still sought permission from Hendrix estate which is why there's an alternate version where they played the parts instead or removed some, maybe on one of the singles (they got the permissions real late, in time for the album version I guess)
You should sleep late man, its just much easier on your constitution..
This was the first album I ever bought. A true classic.
My first tape was licensed to illl!
You forgot the cheap trick sample that starts the album.
Thank you for uploading this 🙌
WOW!
For some reason, I never thought there was much sampling on this album. And I have been listening to it since it came out!!
tons
Great work
Awesome work 8mins! Can’t imagine how much time you spent on this. Love to see Paul’s Boutique
jay grieco it was done! Elsewhere on yt tho.
The Salty Seaman yeah, I went and found it right after… thx tho

The answering machine sample is the brother of one of my best friends in high school. How random that someone from Maysville, KY ended up on a B Boys album heh.
Hagen Kirk that’s awesome
He was in the audience at their show at Bogarts in Cincy when the B-Boys gave him a shout out. I was there
Paul's Boutique is literally the best know. Sampled artistry done by them. And that was before the days of sample clearing.
Moe S dust brothers produced that record
How can people possibly vote this down?

Next up eps and b-sides etc: Rock Hard, MCA and Burzutti, (not sure if there's anything worth covering in LTI era), Love American Style, Exciting Evening at Home .., and there were a lot of bsides and promo tracks for CYH.....
Like a lot if the 'Golden Age' albums..this couldn't be made today...was it done cut and paste style or on mpc? Who was the DJ dropping the scratches?.. Paul's boutique is another master class for train spotters. The older these albums get , the more credit they get...hip bebop..don't stop!

So there's 3 samples for "The Blue Nun", the classical piece layered on top of the drums. Anyone know what it is?
