As a Chelsea season ticket holder of over 30 years, I found this enlightening. Boehly is an intelligent and successful businessman with a clear vision of what he wants to do at Chelsea. and the brutal the sacking of the ever-popular Thomas Tuchel proves he will be ruthless in discarding anyone who does not align with his thinking. On one level I am excited about the future, but at the same time I am apprehensive and somewhat sceptical. He is right in identifying that the Premier League is the 'premier' global sports brand and that there are potentially untold untapped riches to be made if he is able to commercialise Chelsea in the way he is planning. However, football, especially in England is very traditional and adverse to change so he has a big job on his hands. In 50 years, Bohley will either be viewed as a visionary who changed football forever, or an upstart American entrepreneur who bit off more than he could chew and got his fingers burnt. It will be fascinating to see which one of those two it is.
I don’t think he’s looking to change football fundamentally just improve in some of areas he sees deficient. He has a lot to learn but it seems he is open to learning and has learned a lot, hopefully the cringe level of his some of his comments will decrease as he learns.
This is refreshing to hear from an owner. Considering that we never heard anything from Abramovich, besides the odd offical club statements. I really like how Todd and his team have identified issues with existing loan system and player development. I'm sure they have a long list of things that need to improve in both business and football and they seem to moving quickly.
This business has tended to attract the super wealthy who have looked at it as a passion. Typically those that have bought into it and operated it as a business haven't had much success because until the media money came in, football clubs have been a drain on resources. Liverpool are the exception, but nobody has aggressively chased revenue. It's an interesting take, and if you look at the trajectory in recent years, its enormous but it hasn't reached it's full potential because it's still very much a niche sport in China & India. As a fan, I want this guy to spend big money on the best players. I don't care whether he does it through his own pocket or through money he makes, we want to win. Although I take your point about tradition, you don't want to be fleeced as a fan at every opportunity because the club you love has decided to prostitute itself. And here I thought the £1.5 billion of debt forgiveness was his main farewell gift. Can you imagine ?? No, but seriously, RA had nothing to do with it. In fact, the Raine Group, who RA DID hand select to oversee the vetting of candidates and final decision process had people that were cozy with the Ricketts Family out of Chicago and tried to give them a boost. If that one member of the family wasn't a unabashed racist and another one a homophobe, who knows what would have happened? I was despondent. I thought the fix was in. They would have Glazered us back to the late Victorian era. No, Boehly/Clearlake made it happen by being the best candidate in category after category. @@jt19933 sure its easier to care for an owner who never speaks to the media. You never know how or where the money came from. Even if its aiding in a war. as long as he keeps on pumping money in the club and leaves it full of debt. Thats way easier to get behind. nice one mate.
"The challenge Chelsea have now, . . is to put the 18, 19 yr old super stars' development in someone else's (paraphrased ).Our goal is to make sure we can show pathways for our young superstars to get onto the Chelsea pitch while getting them real game time". I waited for someone to voice this for this for years!
Very impressive! I can’t see how Chelsea can degrade under his ownership, especially now that we know he is not just all words, meaning we saw him investing historic amount of money on new players and pragmatically firing the popular manager Tuchel. Overall , his words and actions combined are anything but assuring that Chelsea is on course to continue being amongst the top 5-7 elite football teams in the world. His business knowhow also indicates Chelsea’s finances would be intact too and the global foot print is going to increase.
Under Boehly, Chelsea FC has become the most entertaining comedy in the EPL. Spent more than a billion pounds on player transfers and don’t have a single world class striker on their team sheet. Could have easily afforded Mbappe and then some!
As a Chelsea fan of 30 years that also has a Marketing Degree I found this conversation fascinating. I agree with Todd on how he can see growth but there will be hard push back against it by the football fans and governing bodies which are ultra conservative and traditionalist. My idea is that the Premier League need to have their own app and fans can watch their club without needing a TV package subscription so the money goes directly to the Premier League and not TV companies. I am very excited for the future of Chelsea with Todd and the Clearlake group as owners.
It's so refreshing to see an owner really being open about their vision and plans for the club. There was no panic with Tuchels dismissal. When Tuchel pushed out Tammy it was clear he didn't want to coach players up. When he pushed for Billy to be sold to Brighton Tuchel had pretty much sealed his fate. As soon as that happened I said to people that it was clear Tuchels vision wasn't in line with the new owners and he had one foot out of the door. People said I was stupid for saying he was near being sacked but the sale didnt fit with recent signings of young talent with high potential. Billys intelligence and creativity is also just what Chelsea have been lacking. It was also pretty clear with the amount of business done with Brighton that there was a lot of sniffing around Potter going on. Its a shame Boehly didn't just refuse to sell Billy or seal a low buyback knowing Potter would be the perfect coach for him. For now I really believe Potter is the right choice for the clubs vision and desire to be more sustainable. I hope it lasts a long time. Long enough at least for Lampard to get enough track record to return. Without him we wouldn't hear Todd talking about Tammy, Reece, Mount etc. Lampard literally added hundreds of millions and potentially more in value to the team through his implementation of the academy with the 1st team.
From 9:10 when he begins to talk about how to develop the academy players by handling their progress instead of just leaving it up to chance by other teams was pretty impressive. I like how straight forward he is with these questions and giving an insight on what he sees could be improved on.. pretty telling. I just like the fact that he's not taking the academy for granted and recognizes that it's one of the best and looking to build upon on what The Masia was able to pull off but make it unique to Chelsea is promising.
It means he would spend less in the future to make chelsea more profitable for the owners. It is good. But the problem with that approach we must lower our expectations for more trophies, because depend heavily on academy need long process, just like liverpool, klopp need five years to get what achieve
@@tomster95 that is pretty true man, there would be that added issue of time/patience on waiting for these players to come through and maybe running the risk of not being "successful" or "competitive" with the other big spenders.. only time will tell
How can you develop the academy with that much attention while competing at the top? Fans have to be realistic, you’re not gonna be competing for silverware and titles with this approach. Chelsea fans aren’t gonna like it.
Im sure he appreciates your useless comment. Apart from all other teams he co-owns or is involved in he knows all the players their wives ,children, great parents and their ancestors. For a club he just recently bought , i think he dropped the ball big time , do you own any clubs.
He's definitely intelligent. We are seeing some signs of his vision for Chelsea FC. And it safe to say Chelsea FC will definitely grow immensely under Todd and co.
And what visionis that.. spending somuch money and then thinking about hiring DOF.. hes clearly being a cowboy andsacking great TT. years of misery is on the horizon with these americans..
I was very bleak about the Tuchel sacking but after this interview I feel a lot better. He wasn't sacked because he wasn't adequate enough, it was a pure business decision and I have to respect that.
TT was sacked because he would have wanted full control over incoming and outgoing players. Todd wants to choose the players and with Graham Potter he will be a yes man, much easier for Todd to get the players he wants an example Ronaldo and Neymar would have been purchased if TT wasn't manager.
Just a correction Boss Boehly: Salah we bought from FC Basel and De Bruyne from FC Genk. The rest of the mentioned players are our true CFC academy graduates. Impressed by your passion and vision for CFC, boss. I’m confident that with time we’ll rise again to our rightful place.
His language was revealing how he sees the world. Not a team but a franchise, not people but capital, not players but products. Fans are just a revenue source from part of his portfolio and the club means nothing to him other than a cash cow and a potential ego boost. Tuchel was never going to be his puppet.
Wow this is a very impressive and educational interview. I like how he has taken time to learn about the club and has already built a philosophy of he's own. I now have great belief in him as the one of the new owners, the man is knowledgeable and decisive, he's also a visionary and seems well organized. Excited about the future of the blues, next up he must get the sporting director at Brentford.
The way the guy is articulating the details of the premier league and football in general shows he has an astute understanding of what he has got himself into. This gives me hope as a Chelsea fan😊😊.
He will take us to mid table , these Americans are lie bags and I will never trust an American at all. We can see by appointing potter , what a shame .
in the long run - i believe Todd Boehly + his partners would 100% succeed at Chelsea. they may get some of their judgments wrong-of course (rational people would understand this). but, overall, these guys are sound, practical, and creatively unconventional in their approach to building things - which is an absolutely needed quality into creating something beautiful and trailblazing. Chelsea shall rise again and even more particularly - set a direction that’d have been proven to be successful for others to copy. i firmly believe in the instincts of Boehly & Co.

I like his idea of investing in a Portuguese club that can give us more control over developing our talented academy players & young signings. We can make it feel like a "home away from home", where the players can develop good relationships with each other both on & off the pitch, which can potentially translate to our first teams. We can even adjust the style of the team so the systems are like-for-like.
disgraceful. you can't be a football fan. liga portugal being used as a training ground what about fans of clubs in liga portugal ruin their league to benefit some American fat cat.
Great interview. I loved that he talked abit about the vision he had when it cames to Chelsea because then its easier to understand some of the decisions they have made and will make in the future. Excited times ahead. KTBFFH
To all the UK people commenting and praising this interview, share it with others. As an American who has supported Chelsea since 1996, the anti-american sentiment (discounting him entirely on this) is extremely discouraging. It’s a global brand and sport and we care too over here. These men are smart. Lets go Blues.
I trust this man has passion for sports though he is not an expert in that department but he is good business man . He can employ the best in their departments to take the club forward and Chelsea will be a force to reckon with once again.
Some interesting points. I'm still not convinced he knows what he's doing in English Football, but I think he'll obviously do his best, for his investors for a start.
I’m impressed by Todd. He’s vision is clear for the club. I like the fact that he admits to not knowing much about the game but will get the right people in place who do.
Roman throwing money at us worked very well obviously until the bigger payments rolled in to the rest of the league in around 2013 (ish). At that point it became way more important to run the club efficiently and not outright buy success. I think this is a good step in that direction. It might not work out, nothing is ever guaranteed, however I do believe the new consortium who own us have enough talented, wealthy and intelligent people in place to make a real success out of Chelsea FC. Some things worry me i.e Boehly thinking Salah and KDB were academy players, they were both players we invested in and Jose sold because he didnt like them personally rather than them not being good enough. Other things have me excited i.e getting an actual footballing director for the first time in 20 years, working closely with an upcoming manager to create a solidified club rather than a reactionary club + I think he knows how to market and grow sports franchises which is the next logical step towards catching clubs like liverpool, united, barca, madrid and bayern. We have 20 years of mega success and now its time to branch out massively and take another step up the ladder.
An interesting insight into Todd's vision for Chelsea football club, only 27 minutes long but 27 minutes more than we got from Roman. Roman did us proud for almost 20 years and kept us thinking every 2 years who our next manager was going to be, lots of trophies and success with a number of ups and downs with 2 champions league winners medals. What's Todd's Chelsea got in store for us Chelsea fans for the next twenty years? Another 2 Champions league winners medals by any chance, you know Todd will want that. Strap yourself in for the ride, I think by the amount of travel to get players in for the new season and the amount of meetings and phone calls he must have made he definitely is looking to hit the ground running and get a Squad fit for success and a top four finish, along with a trophy- that would be nice. Good luck Mr Boehly. We will be successful because you are a hugely successful businessman and not only intelligent but smart with a vision for our future. Glazers and Kronkes just stay as you are, all money money money and no vision for the club or respect for the fans or the club you now own.
The only thing american capitalists respect is money. That's it. Say goodbye to your club ...its now a cash cow for American capitalists who don't even like the game
You also have to keep in mind that Abramovich forced many conditions prior to purchase on the new owner for the next 10 years so we'll only be able to tell his true colours after that period to some. Abramovich will go down as CFC's greatest owner even if boehly wins more simply because he did whatever he could to protect the club from thieving owners.
@@KingArtoriusTV Well at least he wont be able to do a lot what the glazers did with utd for at least 10 years. With the Americanisation of the UK to some extent and football teams being bought out by Americans, it's worrying times ahead. American owners should be banned outright in the UK
@@MrAce86Productions Source please. Abramovich forced nothing. He was completely impotent from an ownership perspective from the day the sanctions came down. He had been scrambling to sell it since he made the announcement out of the blue that he was passing ownership to the Chelsea Charitable Trust in preparation to sell it. That's when he was giving stipulations. All of that changed on March 10th. Spreading misinformation and trying to invite suspicion of someone who has given no provocation for it is strange. If you were better informed or even care to be, it's easy enough to go and look at his and other members of the ownership's track record when it comes to sports team ownership. You're worried about the fans getting ripped off in 10 years when 3/4 of Europe can't afford to heat their homes and Russia is slipping that word nuclear into their rhetoric more and more everyday. I'm surprised you chose to dig so far to find a boogie man.
Although I may not agree with every decision made from Boehly and Co. you cannot deny the man has ambitious and has big plans for Chelsea. After hearing this interview I’m more confident of a sustainable success model being implemented.
Will someone please teach him the basics? 11 players, 1 is goalie, 10 outfield - 4 4 3 cannot be a thing. English Premier League footballers work for most of the year, unlike the American system where there is 3 months holiday. This is why a North vs South competition is not possible in the schedule. The top clubs are actually trying to reduce the number of games, not increase them. Is he just another American who dreams about money but not about protecting the club and it's supporters and winning?
Neither De Bruyne or Salah came from the Chelsea academy. De Bruyne was signed from Genk, Salah was bought from FC Basel after Chelsea faced those two players in European football.
You're spliting hairs. They were young players with potential. They were no where near their finished version then. It takes vision to scout such talent and the right philosophy to develop them.
He spoke about Revenue for the football to the whole pyramid which has 380 teams and needs support, spoke about evolution of pl brand, Multi club model helping young players to evolve, More revenue to his co owners teams. What people pick is this, No he is stupid "kdb and Salah were not from academy" . Sums up modern media very well.
Are these comments paid to support this guy? I haven't read one single negative comment here, unlike other places where everybody agrees on Boehly's ignorance about football and the way he is destroying the club.
Some of you definitely aren’t listening to this man lmaooo. I think he’s right to find ways to make money you want the club to become a Barca ?!!!! We need money to get things done The more money we generate The more we can invest. I personally feel Chelsea can become a super power club Firstly being from London is not something they’ve really capitalized on very well.

noun: franchise; plural noun: franchises; noun: the franchise (chiefly in North America) an ownership structure in professional sports in which a league is limited to a fixed number of teams. So a man from North America described owning a professional sports team like Chelsea as being in a leage of a fixed number of teams. God I know you hate him for being American, but do some fucking homework.
@@14tralfaz I hate no one for being American. Been a fan of NFL and College since I was very young. Had multiple great holidays to America. Respect the culture. It's a Club. Respect.

@@flawleics9135 I agree completely! But what I was driving at is the EPL is essentially like the NFL or any franchised American team. There are only 20 teams per year that split the revenue of the EPL. If you are not there then you are not a part of that sharing. Sure the structure is not the same as the NFL but the structure of distributing media rights which is where they make money is only distributed to those in the EPL.
@@14tralfaz That's factually not true, some of the money gets sent further down the pyramid, and franchise leagues like the NFL are usually protected teams, where as the Prem will have 3 new teams every year. It literally isn't a franchise league by all definitions. The only franchises in football are the likes of Red Bull group, King Power group, Etihad group etc but they are only franchises pertaining to their business model, but in the eyes of the football leagues those teams are not individually franchises as none of the teams are.
I see his vision is to make Chelsea to have a proper structure from the bottom all the way up in terms of development of it's players. All Chelsea fans know that we have a great academy, but except a very little few, the rest does not really have a chance of progression to the first team. A long term 1st team manager can help set the academy to produce players according to his requirements, and wants to use these players. TT didn't want the academy players he got as it doesnt fit his style and vision, hence the difference of direction. Tammy & Gilmour is a great example. The future seems bright. Just need to go thru the growing pains. #KTBFFH

6:10 why would you need a tournament for the bottom 4 teams when they’ve already played 38 league games? Also he seems to ignore the fact that any relegated team gets parachute payments
You don’t “need” to change anything because the league works and people love it. But he’s suggesting a tournament between relegation rival teams would generate more revenue both for the league and those clubs being relegated. He referenced the fact that these games towards the end of the season that involve relegation threatened teams already attract a lot of viewers, so a tournament would be an easy way to capitalise financially for all involved. It’s not really any different to the play-offs in the championship. Again, just another way to raise more money after an even longer season than in the premier league.
@@freear42 I agree to a certain extent, but because it’s so tribal you know people will love arguing about their favourite player not getting picked as an all-star that year. It just builds even more interest in the premier league even if the result of the all-star game wouldn’t matter.
The EPL doing a N vs S All Star game is the one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard. Where does it fit in the current calendar? As an American I don’t understand why there’s such a push to change everything into a cash cow. If you want more revenue, buy more clubs, create a streaming platform for the league to distribute all its content globally and actually understand the business you own. The US sports model is not going to work for the EPL, it’s not an old way of thinking, it just doesn’t work.
@Alex C the All-Star games are tame in American sports though. Little pressure on the ball, just an opportunity to see what it would look like with the best players in the league on the pitch. It also means there’s hardly more risk of injury than in a training session. As there is time on the ball it also encourages players to do tricks and skills that you don’t normally get to see in pressurised matches. The league would also have to organise it so it didn’t get in the way of matches or cause late arrivals. Realistically, if it makes the league even wealthier it means the English clubs only pull away further from foreign ones financially and likely in terms of success in the Champions league and no one in England will be complaining about that.
He talks a good game, quite impressive, I am more worried about the huge sums of money being spent on Koulibaly, Cucurella, Fofana and Aubameyang , Is he sanctioning this, I assume he is. These players are not going to turn us in to Premiership contenders, when I look at Haaland at 51m, a player who if he avoids injury will score 35 to 40 goals this season, then by comparison he must be worth at least 500m
Currently 10th in the Premier League. Out of both domestic Cups. Probably go out the Champions League to Dortmund. Spent a fortune on the team. Has he been a success so far ??
According to Kalidou koulibaly, you think and you run in the Italian Seria A whilst you run and think on the ball in the English premier league. That's the beauty of the EPL. Up the chels. We are the pride of London.

Implying a link between this ownership and the last is inviting unwarranted criticism and unwanted scrutiny..
I'm not sure I wanted Nick Candy English Owner Chelsea Fan and no hidden agendas. I am always suspect of American's in European Football. The decisions on transfers have been a bit muddled and Potter is an experiment.
It's going well so far 🤣
Never could imagine Roman doing an interview like this.. its refreshing to see. Potter was right, Todd is very intelligent however as Chelsea fans we hope his passion remains the same down the years as well..
We don't care for this type of thing though.
Nobody has more passion than Roman please, these Americans cares about the money and kill your club
@@jt19933 sure its easier to care for an owner who never speaks to the media. You never know how or where the money came from. Even if its aiding in a war. as long as he keeps on pumping money in the club and leaves it full of debt. Thats way easier to get behind. nice one mate.
Good interview Todd. I hope the vision and plans you’ve got for my beloved club Chelsea comes to fruition.
Lesson from this interview: passion for growing revenue is different from passion for the game.
😄😄😄
He make chelsea laughing stock
7 months later, where's Chelsea now? lol
Kdb and Salah are apparently home grown talents of Chelsea, yeah he's a genius all right.
I did laugh a bit when he said that, they were both young when they left as was Tammy Abraham so I understand the confusion
Im sure he appreciates your useless comment. Apart from all other teams he co-owns or is involved in he knows all the players their wives ,children, great parents and their ancestors. For a club he just recently bought , i think he dropped the ball big time , do you own any clubs.

Interesting key note. Todd is definitely impressive and has learned extremely quickly as sporting director at Chelsea.
Also remember that TT was sacked after two years in his last three clubs , each time after issues we owners .
TT was sacked because he would have wanted full control over incoming and outgoing players. Todd wants to choose the players and with Graham Potter he will be a yes man, much easier for Todd to get the players he wants an example Ronaldo and Neymar would have been purchased if TT wasn't manager.
@@_ImReever well Tuechel was given that control. Then he complained that it was all too much and did not want too much responsibility .
Whats “business decision”?
My full respect to this man. 💯 He is open minded and sees opportunities clearly
He is not lost. He is well informed and has a vision. That's all I can ask for. Now let's make the vision real.
As a Chelsea fan, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Todd and hearing his ideas. Nothing but the best of luck from me!
I love how they both call Chelsea a franchise and they call the Premier League the Premiere League
He's good and smart and all. But not even one question if he loved the have or the club?!? Everything ended up in biz terms. This is pure biz for him!
His language was revealing how he sees the world. Not a team but a franchise, not people but capital, not players but products. Fans are just a revenue source from part of his portfolio and the club means nothing to him other than a cash cow and a potential ego boost. Tuchel was never going to be his puppet.
Q. What's most different about owning a premier League franchise...?
A. The fact that it's not a franchise.
Boehly knows what’s he is doing we’re good hands. We’ll still continue to win trophies throughout the years
Wow this is a very impressive and educational interview.

So easily impressed. He said nothing of note
He seems pretty knowledgeable, given his exec level and the short time he has been with Chelsea.
in the long run - i believe Todd Boehly + his partners would 100% succeed at Chelsea. they may get some of their judgments wrong-of course (rational people would understand this). but, overall, these guys are sound, practical, and creatively unconventional in their approach to building things - which is an absolutely needed quality into creating something beautiful and trailblazing. Chelsea shall rise again and even more particularly - set a direction that’d have been proven to be successful for others to copy. i firmly believe in the instincts of Boehly & Co.
This man really said Salah and De Bruyne came from our academy...
In Todd we trust

Very intelligent owner we are looking forward to seeing more success on and off the pitch Mr Todd
We did it with Eredivisie.

We will see where his ideas take us in 10 years time, I really trust him
Thank you so much for this. Love you Boss Todd.
Amazing interview. We’re going right to the very top. Todd…you’re giving us hope. Seems like the vision is clear 🥹💙👑
I didn't think there could be a more ambitious owner than Roman Abramovich but here he is!
😂 boehly made chelsea laughable club
Some interesting points. I'm still not convinced he knows what he's doing in English Football, but I think he'll obviously do his best, for his investors for a start.
I’m impressed by Todd. He’s vision is clear for the club. I like the fact that he admits to not knowing much about the game but will get the right people in place who do.
Yes, really clear. ESL, play-offs, and all-star games 😂
Roman didn't buy Chelsea to make money.. But Todd did!!
He's trying to turn Chelsea into UTD and how their owners work.
As chalsea fan i see great vision in Boehly’s interview
I can follow such a vision for Chelsea FC from Todd.
Very insightful.
Wow! Thank u Roman and The rain group for giving us Todd
Enjoyed it, thank you.
Great interview owning a global talent pool is impressive!
This guy has my vote..he knows how to put a vision into place..firing the coach was on e of the best things i took as a man with a vision in motion.
Neither De Bruyne or Salah came from the Chelsea academy. De Bruyne was signed from Genk, Salah was bought from FC Basel after Chelsea faced those two players in European football.
But they were scouted by Chelsea so he isn't wrong
You're spliting hairs. They were young players with potential. They were no where near their finished version then. It takes vision to scout such talent and the right philosophy to develop them.
Yeah I don't think he knew that. Maybe he meant to say young players 'developed at the club' but he rather said 'developed by the academy'.
Warra trophy for you
He spoke about Revenue for the football to the whole pyramid which has 380 teams and needs support, spoke about evolution of pl brand, Multi club model helping young players to evolve, More revenue to his co owners teams. What people pick is this, No he is stupid "kdb and Salah were not from academy" . Sums up modern media very well.
Now I’m trying to theorize about what club in Portugal 🇵🇹 or Belgium 🇧🇪 he’s looking to acquire. 😮
Found that interesting. Thought Vitesse would have been the natural choice given the existing relationship between the clubs.
Are these comments paid to support this guy? I haven't read one single negative comment here, unlike other places where everybody agrees on Boehly's ignorance about football and the way he is destroying the club.

Respect.

Without any money Arsenal would still exist for example, the Jaguars would not. Don't compare our cultured history of Football with your absolute MK Dons mentality of time. dO sOmE hOmEwOrK.

He’s so American lol
The good and bad.
6:10 why would you need a tournament for the bottom 4 teams when they’ve already played 38 league games? Also he seems to ignore the fact that any relegated team gets parachute payments
Also with the All Star stuff, he doesn’t realise that the whole culture of the sport in this country is tribal and will always stay that way
You don’t “need” to change anything because the league works and people love it.
Did he just say Mo Salah and KDB are from our academy.
He talks a good game, quite impressive, I am more worried about the huge sums of money being spent on Koulibaly, Cucurella, Fofana and Aubameyang , Is

According to Kalidou koulibaly, you think and you run in the Italian Seria A whilst you run and think on the ball in the English premier league. That's the beauty of the EPL. Up the chels. We are the pride of London.
