    It is hard for new players to compete Japanese and European combustion engine quality. So, it's also good decision in term of competition to directly jump to electric.

      combustion engines don't even come close to the efficiency of electric engines. (Doesn't matter who's designing/building them.) Do you even thermodynamics bro?

      Han zhang I believe he is referring to travel distance of ev cars compared to traditional cars which if that's the case is quite true. Even tesla best ev car currently get a max of around 300 miles on average

    • @mzamroni
      @mzamroni 7 лет назад +6

      Han Zhang I always got A in physics. I know combustion engine efficiency is actually low but people can refill it from 0% to 100% in just few minutes. EVs would have replaced combustion engine car if it's battery can be refilled fast.

    • @HanZhang1994
      @HanZhang1994 7 лет назад +2

      mzamroni EV recharge pretty quick, in 15min last I heard. What's the problem? You also get just as much range out of it, plus you carry less mass than with a combustion engine block making you go further for the same energy, and you're more efficient.

      Some of the electric buses in China can charge up with just 10-15 "seconds", it is called incremental capacitance charging. The bus takes a charge every time it stops to let off and take on passengers.

      The secret to EV cars is not about the car or the technology itself, it is about how a nation will generate it's energy ! China is going full steam ahead with nuclear and hydro power while the US is going back to coal !

    0:35 "China's green Vehicle boom isn't driven primarily by concerns for the environment, it's the government's industrial policy that's making it happen." WOW. REALLY, WSJ?? So the rest of the world doesn't have the same boom because their governments are "primarily" concerning for the environment?? And China is only driven by money, right?? Chinese government never put environment as a criterion to set up their new EV policy, right?? Even if the rest of the world doesn't have a green EV boom, their governments still concern for the environment, but when China has it, it has to be China's greed for the new money. Right?? NOTHING to do with conscience, right?? NOTHING GOOD ever came out of China, right? Even if it APPEARS to be good, it's still rotten to the core, right?? China's rotten to the core no matter what, right?? What a brilliant *cough*never-changing*cough* twist~!! LMAO

    I live in Beijing and just today I did my usual 15 minute walk to this nearby area with a lot of bars and restaurants. Now there's a new electric car shop there. I had a little look around and you can see cars there that cost about 120,000 yuan, which is quite a bit cheaper than westerners would be paying for something like the tesla model 3. Plus they get all kinds of benefits when it comes to things like parking and registration plates (as this video mentioned). With all the smog here I for one can't wait to see this take off.
    By the way this video is already out of date because things are changing so fast. By the end of 2017 there are now over 1,200,000 EV's in China, you can see all the stats here:

      Not necessarily. Even if China had 90% of EV cars that wouldn't mean that the Chinese would dominate the automotive industry because EVs would still be a small percentage of total cars in China. The Chinese car manufacturing space is interesting for the fact there are quite a large number of brands that out in the west we have no idea exist. The local market is so huge and so different that they can have these thriving local brands. The Chinese are getting on with the job of embracing new technology to where no doubt they are on the path to be global leaders. Once the local brands gain the skills to make high quality cars they will become serious global competitors.

      Difficult to say wheather they will develope faster than western companys. If they manage to think long term they might be able to compete. Chinease cars have come a far way, in terms of design and interiour(not good but accetable). However currently most of the cars have a realy bad quality and tons of safety flaws, like gearshifters breaking of and other crazy stuff. As said, if they start to think long term they have pretty good chances.

    Every country has choice to select gasoline or Electric car based on their own situation. In China's case, China is short of oil and can not rely on importing more oil while more and more people own cars. A typical Electric car can run 400kms by charging US$10 electricity. It is more affordable than running on gas.

    In China electric cars will actually increase air pollution and CO2 emissions. How? When you charge your car the power comes from power plants. In China 70 percent of electric power comes from burning coal, the dirtiest fuel there is. 5 percent of the energy is lost in the power grid heating up wires and transformers. So the pollution is transferred from car tailpipes to power plant smokestacks and there's more of it. How do I know this? I'm an electrical engineer and I design the installation of the chargers. How about in the US? 30 percent of our electricity comes from.burning coal down from 50 percent a few years ago. Do we have a net gain or loss of CO2 emissions using electric cars. The truth is nobody knows but it won't be nearly as much benefit as most people think and it really is a bad choice to buy and use one IMO.

    I heard they were changing the incentives due to their effect of increasing the overall number of vehicles on the roads, and therefore increasing the pollution. They really want to encourage people to stop using ICE cars and *instead* use EVs, which would mean people either buying a 2nd vehicle, or replacing their existing vehicle, which is an expensive proposition that is inconceivable for many. IMO, they should introduce 'buy back' schemes for people to replace their ICE cars with EVs.

    When I am in China, I am surprised at how many Teslas I see there. One of my coworkers over there has one. I have not seen that many EV, though. In a parking lot, there may be 15 EV charging stations all with gasoline vehicles parked at them.

    That's how you advance rapidly.

    There is nothing wrong with carrying a small Honda 240 volt petrol electric generator to charge your electric car battery when you are on long trips. These generators put out a high amperage electric current and will charge a car battery in about 2 hours. You could have some food for lunch while the battery is being charged. There is a plan for a capacitor to be charged before you leave home. It will have a complete charge enough for a full battery charge. When the battery is getting low you plug it in and the capacitor discharges a full charge into the electric car's battery in just a few seconds. I live in Australia and I would buy a Chinese made electric car. I just want an affordable electric car. Our government and the petroleum companies are keeping electric car prices too high for people to buy one. The petroleum companies get to sell petrol and oil to people and the government of Australia gets 40c of every litre sold in revenue. Just a pair of bastards that keep electric cars too expensive for ordinary people to buy. Please China flood the market with good cheap electric cars as plenty of Australian's will buy them. Hurry China we want them now.

    Electrical car and coal are two different businesses. What matters is not where those electricity come from, what matters is electrical car will push energy industry to change, coal is the only one source of electricity, when coal wasn't the best option for producing electricity and electricity become the most used energy, that 'invisible hand' will make this world better ,just think about it economically.

      they r deliberately doing this to phrase out foreign brand on low to med tier, watch in the next 10 years or so china brand electric car will claim atleast 50%-60% of its domestic market. and kick out foreign brand and leave them only in the exotic market. toyota, gm, vw etc will all be phrasing out of the market deliberately by government policy. its all be imminent as china raise, no one will allow foreign stuff to over run its home turf.

      Toyota and Suzuki making EV in India by 2020, first time both collaborating and chosen India for its production and research because govt told them if they both cannot produce, govt will ask Mahidnra and Tata to collaborate.
      Cheverlot winded up India sales said office work is done at US office and production cost is high and cannot reduce price. We export mostly to Latin America from India and cannot move production to LA because no country offers the GREAT SUPPLIER BASE like India. We tested components from hundreds of suppliers and all very good including gear box, filter etc etc and reached a mileage of 25 km by testing components for years. If we produce it anywhere, the mileage may be 20 and cost of production will be high as NO COMPETITION among suppliers.
      India exports cars 40% to Latin and Central America. Few to EU and Africa mostly to UK, Algeria etc. Least to West Asia, Central Asia or South East Asia!!!! Suzuki started operation from 1980 and now has Hyundai, Ford, BMW, GM, Volswagen, Lamborgini, Toyota, Audi, SAIC, Chery, Jaguar etc etc. Dislikers can buy costly cars and waste money as Indian cars are worth money but do not make bad comments as no one will believe it as sales doubling in South America after 5 years of operation.

    Very superficial report, WSJ. How about letting us know there are hundreds of small Chinese car makers building mostly lead acid battery EVs at extremely low prices without any safety features? How about letting us know that it is these very marginal cars that make up the bulk of the Chinese EV market? Why do we only ever hear about BYD? What are you trying to hide, WSJ?
