Wonderful video Gio! I think it's also worth mentioning how awful Mindy Kaling is as well, because so many of the criticisms of Velma can apply to all of her characters, and even to Mindy herself from what I've heard. The main character in Never Have I Ever, Devi, is just as unlikeable, annoying, selfish and generally terrible to everyone around her, and is consistently rewarded for this behaviour. Plus, Mindy herself has said on record that she committed SA against one of her co-stars and used her power to bully employees into not saying anything. She said this on a late night talk show as a funny aside, a hilarious anecdote, because it's super funny when women do it to their co-stars apparently. She's an awful person, her characters are awful, and I hope that she is one day held accountable for the toxicity she brings to Hollywood and the bad name she gives female actors of colour. But anyway, great video as always Gio!
Damn if that is all true, that is crazy. And thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and now we can all put Velma behind us....until season 2
The Ego Kaling has to pre decide that EVERY ONE of the Mystery Gang was 100% going to simp not for Velma, but for HER. She had to be the smartest, the funniest, the most relatable, and the most desired in the room. Her ego had its own ego in this abomination of a series. I hope, now people got past their morbid curiosity with the first season, that the second gets absolutely abysmal views/attention, so Kaling can crawl back to her safe space surrounded by her echo chamber of friends.
Adding onto the mystery section, if Fred's mom is a hypnotist she could have saved herself and everyone else the trouble by just working that magic on Fred to get him to do what she wants.
And yet it's dumb how they just early announce a Season 2 right off the bat when clearly a producers and writters make a series, They work on Season 1 and while season 1 airs, They work on Season 2 and put it on hold, Then if Season 1 finale ends great making the ratings good enough for profits then they can officially announce a Season 2 and continue their work. But if Season 1 ends up failing with the bad ratings or worst ones, Then they put their Season 2 on hold in the dumpster while possibly revealing what Season could've been with the characters and plots for the fans. But the producers for Velma have huge level amount of stupidity as i don't understand how is that even possible.
I say this a lot about the Velma show. This was always a Mindy vanity project. She sees herself as Velma. That the whole world revolves around Mindy. Everyone wants to do everything to make her happy. No one calls her out. And everyone is in love with her. Anyone that doubts Mindy isn't a narcissist has this show as an example she is.
My girlfriend is both a psychologist and a HUGE The Office fan, meaning she’s seen a lot of interviews and knows quite a bit of information about the main cast and its writers….And she agrees with your assessment of her. Oh and Mindy should stop playing the “my difficult times growing up” considering her upper middle class upbringing in the Boston area.
I think that i remember hearing that they ordered 20 episodes from the beginning and that even without the hate watching it still would've gotten a second season.

A movie that the animators still went ahead and completed just for themselves even though they knew it was never going to be shown to the public. And we still got THIS.........
And there was a Hex Girls movie that got canned..... But we're getting a new adult Flintstones show starring Pebbles yay........ Thank God I don't have HBO Max

What I find really hilarious is the fact that HBO Max debuted BOTH "The Last of Us" (Jan. 15th) and Velma (Jan. 12th) just days from each other and both shows ran for roughly the same amount of time (9-10 episodes) yet one show is actually good and the other is...well...something else...
It has one redeeming quality, one tiny insignificant speck of a quality that makes this show good It's such hot garbage that it united the entire internet, in agreement that Velma is ... 🎉The worst piece of media ever produced🎉
Literally a bunch of projects gets scrapped and canceled and this garbage gets another season. David Zaslav is being a clown as always in Warner Bros. And this is just sad how much they're beating and sabotaging HBO Max left and right. And what even sickens me even more is that Mindy Kaling has gotten a medal from Biden from this. America and the entertainment industry is really falling apart. It feels like the whole world is run by clowns now.
Velma didn't get a second season because it was "hate-watched so much", they had already decided to give it a second season before season 1 even aired.
It definitely doesn't deserve to be to the third lowest rated show, that is giving it far too much credit. It is a microcosm of weird personal politics and irrational hatred. It is the worst thing to be created by humans, outside of anything that kills whole swathes of them.
It's just so...personal, I don't mean that as in passionate I mean PERSONAL it was made to boost the creators ego, every "joke" doesn't feel like a joke it feels like a malicious dig. It's just so disgusting, makes my gut churn every time I heard it.
They could have had Velmas mother be the killer. That she wanted a smart daughter and her framing Velma was just her way of getting Velma into her clutches would have done a HUGE favour to this series
Good point on Victoria stupid decision to try to frame Velma if there's anybody who she should have a grudge against shouldn't it be Norville's family as it was his grandmother who costed her father's position in the military. Just the fact that the writers didn't think of that shows their incompetence.
I just hope this is the last "remake" of our favourite childhood shows, imagine if the media industry decided to remade, Captain Planet, or Ben 10, or Samurai Jack and make it as "WOKE" as possible or worst hire Mindy Kaling to be the writer and self insert herself again.
See i just learned about this practice and it makes no sense to me. Why greenlight a show for two seasons for 2 seasons without even seeing how the first one does. That can't be good business!
I concur plus when it comes to hate watching...some people don't actually watch it on the actual services. I've learnt more than enough about this show from all the youtubers critiquing and reacting to it.
@@GIGio_Official Animation is time consuming and expensive. Giving animated shows the standard 6 episode launch doesn't work because you can't finish the season while it's airing. Instead studios will ask for a set number of episodes and then greenlight work on the next season if the first does well. Although I have no idea why HBO asked for 20 episodes right off the bat since seasons are typically 8-12 episodes. Maybe they were banking too much on Mindy Kaling and Scooby Doo to bring viewers through name recognition alone.
@@MrDj232 I mean maybe. In my mind that’s why we wait years for a sequel to anything animated and that’s understandable. The only harm in waiting to green light a second season would be that it would come out later. But still I feel like that would save WB money if they just waited
The dumbest part about Victoria’s plan is the fact that she didn’t hypnotize Fred into being more competent. Like why steal ppl’s brains at all, when you’re skilled with hypnosis
She couldn't do that a brain can only work at maximum capacity. If she hypnotized Ferd to be smart he would say a bunch of cliches he thinks a smart person would say rather than do anything that was actually smart.
The most absurd part of the show is that every character is in love with Velma and wants her attention. And since Velma was written as a stand-in for Mindy Kaling, this reveals Mindy to be the most egotistical yet delusional person imaginable. In her fantasies everyone wants her. Wishful thinking is understandable of course, but geez.
Mindy got an award from the PRESIDENT because of this show. If that doesn’t show how bad western entertainment has gotten, idk what does. There is no value to awards. Not related to Velma, but have you seen Mindy? A few months ago she was super heavy. Like how she looks in Velma (because gotta self insert). But now when she has slimmed down. Anyone know why? Diet and exercise? No that would be the proper way to get healthy. No no no, she hopped on the new Hollywood trend of weight loss by injecting herself with the diabetic medicine ozempic. In spite of not having diabetes. Mindy is injecting herself with a medicine she doesn’t need. Contributing to a mass shortage. My dad is diabetic and NEEDS ozempic, but Mindy uses it because, unlike what she preaches in her show, she wants to be thin and pretty. All of Hollywood is like this. Narcissistic, selfish, and all around vile people. Mindy is the worst one right now because of how bad her show was. I’m sick of these entitled people and how much influence they have on our culture. And they don’t even make anything GOOD.
That’s why the Danny phantom Trio works because Danny gets called out for the Bad action and Same with Teen Titans , Fairly oddparents and scooby doo and ben ten and more Danny phantom is my all time favorite show
Hey Gio. First of all, no, you were not too harsh on this show. Not even close. I couldn't even finish episode 1. Yeah, it WAS THAT bad for me. This show hates everyone and was only made for the 9 people in the writers' room. I enjoyed this video. Your editing is immaculate as always and your comedy was funny and of course, I like your take on timing and how it's important. (Something I'm trying to work on with my jokes) Also, just wanted to say that your Arrow video last month actually inspired me to dedicate to working out. I've been going strong for a month. So, thank you, take that what you will.
As far as I'm aware the hate watching isn't the reason for the 2nd season, apparently they were always going to do 20 episodes, and they decided to split it into two sets of 10 to do 2 seasons
Thus reminds me of the quote "but common sense came out people say it wasn't that bad..... omg they hated it" as well the line "people find it more fun to hate it then like it" which are all true.
They literally spit in the face of all loyal Scooby Doo fans. It's blows my mind with how bad it is they went and made a season2!!!, humanity really is doomed..
If Fred had been the main character pulling half the crap she pulls in the show, he’d be a toxic male and the show would be blasted but because it’s a female lead it’s so progressive and refreshing. This isn’t a Scooby Gang show, she wanted to write an original show all about herself being awesome and worshipped but needed a draw so she used familiar character names to dry and trick an audience.
It’s not getting a second season. Both seasons were produced back-to-back. HBO Max is simply cutting its losses by airing content that’s already been bought and paid for.
It’s really like the creators know respecting the source material is important so they became bitter & resentful and preemptively attacked their audience AKA anyone who would remind them of that. She-Hulk went at its audience in the same way.
This show really is just an Ego trip for Mindy, but the most hilarious part of it is that Velma is clearly Mindy's self insert and she's such a horrendous person that the Velma from this show has an entry in the Villians fandom wiki page. Seriously. I am not kidding. She is actually so bad she's considered one of the show's bad guys. And again, it's Mindy's self insert. So, i guess Mindy herself is such an awful person that she'd qualify as a villian.
I'm glad that you acknowledged for, as much as we want to kill Fred, he's the only character in the show to actually grow as a person and that NOT get forgotten next episode.
Anyone remember shows like TRON: Uprising, Motor City and Wander Over Yonder? Because they all have one thing in common: They got screwed over because the network they aired on preferred other shows over them.
It probably got a second season because it was already made, not because it got hate watched so much. They probably just animated 20 episodes and broke it up into two seasons.
People say the Velma character is the writer doing a self insert fantasy, but I think they're wrong. The writer's self insert are all the characters that have their brains removed 🤣
You NAILED everything wrong with this abomination. The show has contempt for its audience, for the original show, for the entire concept of animation for adults and, ultimately, for itself.
Hearing you discuss how this show could work is painful... as comparing it to what they actually did with the show is like pouring hand sanitizer alcohol on an opened sore. The writers for this show have less chance of writing a script that's good for Scooby Doo than the 1,000 monkeys at typewriters currently working on Shakespeare.
I absoutely despise this show. You hit the nail on the head, bro. This show is just sickening. I am so tired of writers fucking remaking my childhood shows and literally taking a shit on them.
About Velma getting a second season, there might be more to this story than we think. A while ago, I heard about this trick that has happened before where the creators of a show will order a single season's worth of episodes and then split them into two seasons in order to make it look like there was enough popular demand to warrant more seasons. Now I'm not saying that's what Mindy Kaling did. I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be true.
@Will N And there's victorious, the show on nickolodeon. there was originally gonna have 3 seasons but they split the third season in half making a season 4

@@GIGio_Official Definitely true! The clip is available on YT - Kaling was on Conan O'Brien's talk show discussing it.
It's really funny that Zombie Island and Mystery Incorporated had done a darker and edgier take on Scooby Doo the right way.

Crazy thing is,the second season was already being made without the hate watching
That really just boggles my mind

And yet it's dumb how they just early announce a Season 2 right off the bat when clearly a producers and writters make a series, They work on Season 1 and while season 1 airs, They work on Season 2 and put it on hold, Then if Season 1 finale ends great making the ratings good enough for profits then they can officially announce a Season 2 and continue their work.
But if Season 1 ends up failing with the bad ratings or worst ones, Then they put their Season 2 on hold in the dumpster while possibly revealing what Season could've been with the characters and plots for the fans. But the producers for Velma have huge level amount of stupidity as i don't understand how is that even possible.
no Velma doesn't deserve to be the 3rd worst-rated show on HBO, it should be the first worst-rated show.
I will co sign this campaign
The word “Oxygen Thief” applies to Velma’s character.
I wish more ppl can talk about how Velma is the reflection of a narcissistic Mendy, she made everyone in the show simp for her even though she sucks
SHE, LITERALLY, TWERKS, ON HER, DEAD, CORPSE!!! **several gun shots**
21:20 I just can't but laugh at that sentence.🙂😂😂🙂🥰
I disagree with you. Velma isn't just the worst show ever. It's just the worst...thing ever made.
You may be write. I still Hate Naomi more tho
You know what Shaggy loves? Food, huge amount of food.
Norville is a Total Drama Shaggy impersonator.
I think that i remember hearing that they ordered 20 episodes from the beginning and that even without the hate watching it still would've gotten a second season.
I believe you, but that practice makes no goddamn sense to me. Personally or business wise.
@@GIGio_Official Yeah I don't get it either.
You left out the part where Daphne is a violent Monster, who, at the beginning of episode one, savagely beat one of her classmates over a disagreement.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that a Christmas-themed prequel to the 3D animated movie "Scoob" that was almost done was canceled at the last minute in 2022 by Warner Bros as a tax write-off.
In the Candy Man episode Daphine, Olive and GiGi(?) snap their fingers 3 - 4 times next to Velma.
Mindy was the true villian in Velma, killing childhood characters.
Season 2 wasn't green lit because of hate watching, season 2 was already Green light before the second episode even aired.
I just learned about this practice and it doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Why greenlit something for two seasons without seeing the viewership it can get. Like genuinely I don't get it.
@@GIGio_Official because money. No I'm not being sarcastic, that's actually the reason. From the network's PoV More seasons = higher chance for people to be interested in the series as a whole= better ratings, better ratings= lots of money. Does this way of thinking work in practice? No, not really. But for some ungodly reason, networks keep doing this.
Fred being the best character in the main cast is extremely funny
I agree. HBÓs Velma just feels more like a gift basket of random garbage. Except that the gift basket is actually a bomb.
The only good character in Velma is the cop. Why? They hit Velma with their car.
1:34 Don't you mean serialized story structure of Mystery incorporated. The original was episodic.
Its very possible i mixed those two up. Good spot.
You are correct, but the important point is that everyone should watch Mystery Inc because it’s awesome!😊
Worst show ever made? Someone’s never seen Nutshack..
remember everyone watch literally every single other Scooby-Doo show ever made not this thing that ISN'T part of the franchise
The counsel has spoken.
Gio; Why are you smiling ?
Velma: hahahahaha.
The show damn near killed me
Best analysis 🧐 love it you really nailed every single detail of this awful of a show
thank you so much! I'm really happy you enjoyed the video and hope to see you around for the next
17:05 This man Norville really fell for the Sakura bullsh** confession.
The second season was already planned before the first season was released
Who the actual fuck would simp for THIS version of Velma?
What I find really hilarious is the fact that HBO Max debuted BOTH "The Last of Us" (Jan. 15th) and Velma (Jan. 12th) just days from each other and both shows ran for roughly the same amount of time (9-10 episodes) yet one show is actually good and the other is...well...something else...
I ahte this show so much that I actually referred to the main character as "Vermin." Because SHE is not Velma.
It has one redeeming quality, one tiny insignificant speck of a quality that makes this show good
It's such hot garbage that it united the entire internet, in agreement that Velma is ...
Mindy Kailing won a presidential award for her contribution to the arts or whatever other day. That is all.
It definitely doesn't deserve to be to the third lowest rated show, that is giving it far too much credit.
It is a microcosm of weird personal politics and irrational hatred. It is the worst thing to be created by humans, outside of anything that kills whole swathes of them.
if velma is the third lowest rated show then I cant even imagine how bad the first and second one must be
I need to see the second and first lowest to make that judgment. lol
It's just so...personal, I don't mean that as in passionate I mean PERSONAL it was made to boost the creators ego, every "joke" doesn't feel like a joke it feels like a malicious dig. It's just so disgusting, makes my gut churn every time I heard it.
The problem here is the principle of maximum capacity -- every plan has to be the best possible plan, otherwise the writer is cheating
Just the fact that the writers didn't think of that shows their incompetence.
freds mom goal doesnt make sense. Switching the brain of your beloved son with a psycho brain which hates you doesnt make sense
It’s amazing that everyone hates this and HBO just went “Better make another season” after canceling a bunch of good animated shows they had going
I just hope this is the last "remake" of our favourite childhood shows, imagine if the media industry decided to remade, Captain Planet, or Ben 10, or Samurai Jack and make it as "WOKE" as possible or worst hire Mindy Kaling to be the writer and self insert herself again.
Most likely "season 2" is just the second half of season 1. It's unlikely that hate watching produced enough views to green light the second season.
This show showed even you can make something so bad that it’s universally hated it becomes the 4th worst show
The dumbest part about Victoria’s plan is the fact that she didn’t hypnotize Fred into being more competent. Like why steal ppl’s brains at all, when you’re skilled with hypnosis
She couldn't do that a brain can only work at maximum capacity. If she hypnotized Ferd to be smart he would say a bunch of cliches he thinks a smart person would say rather than do anything that was actually smart.
@@icecreamhero2375 and yet she wants Velma’s brain, which would pretty much do the same thing
@@amethystsavage4018 LOL
You watched Velma twice?!?
I could barely watch it once
While I will admit, that I like Norvell, I wouldn't watch it again on a bet
2 times on 1.5xs speed is slightly less painful than normal speed
I think what I don’t like about this Velma show is the animation style. It looks more like a mix between a bad anime and BrickleBerry.
That’s why the Danny phantom Trio works because Danny gets called out for the Bad action and Same with Teen Titans , Fairly oddparents and scooby doo and ben ten and more Danny phantom is my all time favorite show
Yeah, why didn't Fred's mom get rid of the bodies??
Becasue that would require common sense
I don't think it deserves to be the third-lowest rated show of all time.
I think it deserves to be the first.
Please dont let Hazbin Hotel be as bad as Velma
And now Mindy kalling has received award for her contribution to arts for some reason which she never deserved
The one thing that would help is if this show got destroyed and Mindy Kaling went to jail
(Something I'm trying to work on with my jokes)
Also, just wanted to say that your Arrow video last month actually inspired me to dedicate to working out. I've been going strong for a month. So, thank you, take that what you will.
The only people who did a good job were the voice actors( excluding Kaling) and the animators
Worst show in history and she gets the Freedom award. Goes to show how meaningless that award is now.
This show is an example of just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it.
There is no doubt in my mind Mindy hates anyone outside of herself and her circle.
That one scene was with norville running away from the kid is probably the only good scene in the series
It’s not getting a second season. Both seasons were produced back-to-back. HBO Max is simply cutting its losses by airing content that’s already been bought and paid for.
Okay but can I just say putting tracks from mystery inc in the background *chef kiss* Has to be my favorite music from this franchise
Scrappy-Doo, Scooby-Dum, and Flim-Flam deserve an apology.
this show deserve to burn in the underworld for all eternity while getting stabbed with pitchforks.
I can’t believe there’s a show worse than High Guardian Spice.
Thankfully for me, I didn't watch this piece of shit TV series when it came out. And I never will. Nor will I ever watch season two.
It is. They always planned to make it two seasons - they just used 20 episodes paid in advance to do it.
@Will N And there's victorious, the show on nickolodeon. there was originally gonna have 3 seasons but they split the third season in half making a season 4
I'm embarrassed to watch this with anybody.
i got more charecter developments out of the credits then i did for the entire show
