    Pray for me!
Starting potty training for my 3 year old who also has a speech delay ! ❤🙏🏽🙏🏽
Edit: 04/09/2024| I can gladly say my child is fully potty trained, it took about 2 months to get it right, but now he goes by himself to the toilet and can tell you when he needs it.
He still has accidents but it’s fine, it happens. My advice is to stay consistent and don’t change routine, if you are at home with your child, make them walk around with just their underwear, push fluids during the day, run to the toilet to create that state of emergency(don’t give them an option), expect lots and lots of accident and keep encouraging them to use the toilet. Take your time there is no rush or pressure, children will learn when they are ready.
For mothers that have children with a speech delay, ACTION is louder than words, not saying not to speak to them but keep showing and keep acting, your kids will eventually catch up.

As an early educator for 16 years and the mom of three now grown folk, I tell everyone I know girls can typically potty train at around 18 months and boys I don’t even START until they are 3. Boys just need more time. But if you wait until they’re 3 they potty train as quickly as girls do.

I feel that there is so much mom peer pressure to potty train early when many kids just are not ready until 2.5 to 3. Both of my boys were not ready until closer to 3, and when they were, the whole process was a breeze. Our 6 month daughter has DS, so I'm expecting her to be in diapers longer than her brothers, but you never know. She could surprise us.

I heard from so many that their babies weren’t ready to potty train until 2.5 or 3. I just took my pediatricians advice and tried with no expectations right when my baby turned 2. To my surprise with just being consistent and using only underwear we potty trained her in 4 days. We are so proud of her! Huge shock but we are so happy but overnight potty training is not for a while.

For both my kids we waited until 3 years old I just felt they would understand more idk lol. My boy had way more accidents than my daughter had and I've come to realize that when a boy has accidents the pee just kind goes everywhere and for the girl the pee just soaks all in the underwear and down the leg. Way less mess to clean up when potty training a girl haha. My daughter I'd say was way easier than my son. She started going in the public restrooms 2 months into potty training and it just so happened it was a porta-potty lol we were at a pumpkin patch at that was the only bathroom available. My son wouldn't use a public restrooms until he was almost 3 and half. It's crazy how different each kid potty trains when you have multiple kids. My boyfriend works all day so I basically trained both my kids by myself. We just did underwear all day and pull up at night until we got to potty training at night time.

I’m currently potty training my 3 year old (3 years and 3 months old now) he was a bit behind in speech so I decided to wait. He is doing great with pee, saying when he needs to go and actually holding it until he reaches the potty, a little drop here and there but that’s ok. The problem is that he is very anxious with everything and he has been holding the poop. He gets the chills, the belly grumbling and he would say he feels cold and needs hugs and snuggles but he would refuse to seat on the potty and if he does he won’t do anything even though we sit there for a while. I bring books, toys, shows on the phone and nothing,he would go on the undies after I get busy with something for a minute and by the time I look at him is a second too late. He has only pooped twice on the potty. I give the praise, I even made a poop on potty candy jar. I don’t know how to help him overcome that fear of pooping in the potty. As soon as I see a sign he needs to go I take him and we sit, I even sit next to him on a stool. I take him as many times he shows signs but he won’t do anything. He has held the poop for 4 days. I give him lots of fibre and fluids. Help!!

  • @63dkw

My son was potty trained at 18 months. We stayed home one weekend and put undies on him and he peed in it about an hour after starting. No coaxing, no demanding. He then continued for the rest of the day. The next day he was quite and I went looking for him and he was standing on tippy toes, trying to stretch his little doodle up over the rim of the toilet 😂. I put the seat on for him and he used it all the time. He never had an accident and at 2 I notice that the nappies were dry over night, so I told him one night no more nappies and again, no wet beds. He showed no signs of even wanting to use the toilet prior yo us starting. I used the same technique for the other two and the boy was fully trained by 2. My girl was fine for using the potty but wouldn’t do no 2 in the toilet. Around 20 months I would put her on the toilet and sit with her reading a book to her. It took a few weeks but once she used it once for no 2’s she then continued. None of my kids wet their beds. It is definitely individual to each child but. I was lucky that none of mine had ongoing issues. I did find with my grandkids that the ones that slept solid and were not easily roused, were the bed wetters. I think we believe that it is going to be so hard but in fact the majority of the time it is pretty easy. I love the idea of a tap out word between parents. 😊

I starting to worry a little bit bc in February the kindergarten starts and it's necessary to be potty trained. We already tried a lot of things but maybe I have to try to stay home for 3 days. (See how it goes with finn his energy 😂) I really don't want to rush it but on the other hand he is home with me since we moved and think he is ready for school seeing the fact how he play with other kids at the playground. My girl is just now showing she wants to potty BUT only on the big potty, not her size potty. This video is very encouraging especially with the patience. Unfortunately, I do not have anyone to watch her during this potty training session straight. My husband and I work which even work at home, it’s been a struggle because with my baby being a girl, my husband doesn’t want to teach her (says it weird for a man to handle with her being a girl/ if she was a boy, he would do it no problem). So it’s just me doing it and I’m a first time mom who doesn’t know what to do. This is encouraging, once again, because I was stressing about her not being able to even recognize she’s wet.

I’ll be the first to say that’s very concerning. I was uncertain about having a daughter and learning to care for unfamiliar body parts, but declining to participate is not an option. I’m really sorry you are in these circumstances. Parenting is all or nothing. You don’t get to pick and choose the parts to be involved. Marriage is a partnership and he needs to come to terms with reality. If he can’t help teach his daughter about her basic bodily functions because “it’s weird” how will he ever be there for her when she goes through puberty and starts her period and all the other insane changes a woman’s body goes through in her life? “It’s weird” is not an excuse to shove the load all onto you. He needs to get familiar so it’s no longer weird.
Funny note to end my rant on - I didn’t understand why Meg used so much toilet paper when she peed. Now having potty trained Juniper and wiping her, I understand. 😂

It sounds like you guys had great luck with the BLF method, but I think you were also right to wait and let Rowan "be ready". I've only seen success stories with the BLF method, but it didn't work for us at all, and I wish I'd listened to my mom who told me not to push my daughter. I followed the class to a T with my daughter at 27 months. She had already occasionally been peeing in the potty and had shown all the signs of readiness. We did the 3 day holiday weekend thing, no rewards or punishment, stay calm with accidents, etc. It was a DISASTER. She freaked out the minute I told her we were saying "Bye-bye" diapers, but still she got a few pees/poops in the potty the first morning and I thought we were on a roll. But then after that it became an unintentional power struggle - no idea what switched in her little toddler brain, but every single pee or poop went straight on the floor and every morning was a meltdown that I was taking the "sleep undies" off. By the end of night three we said forget it. She was just not emotionally ready. So here we are a few months later, she definitely seems closer to being ready now, and I think she'll sort it out on her own with a little more time.

For our second son, we’ll wait until we see a similar sign - even if we see it much later! But at that early of an age, you just can’t expect good communication. Juniper is just starting to actually go potty as well. It’s hit or miss, but the curiosity is good and she has a good time with it. I suggest talking with her about feeling pee and poo inside. Or encouraging her to sit and stay if possible until she’s all done. For juniper there is a lot of fun in wiping and flushing, so I don’t let her do those things unless she actually goes.

What if I’m doing the big little feelings method and it’s not working. I’m at my wits end and so frustrated. She pees in the potty most the time but refuses to poop

My son turned 4 on July 19th and still is in 100% diapers. Our pediatrician says the worst you can do is force, just creates the opposite and fears.
We have never pressured him but he shows no interest and completely rejects the idea! I dont know what to do...he might be going in diapers to school if thia continues😔
With my first daughter she had no issues and potty trained herself at 2.5 years.

Its different with pooping I'ts predictable. It's now the 5th accident now nad theres no pattern. I want to give up. Im following the 3 day method /naked potty training.

It’s totally OK to try later on! I know for us personally 2 would have been too early, but you know your kiddo best of course!

My 4 1/2 year old is not fully potty trained. She goes to daycare, she is the only one who still isn’t trained. They put pull ups on her for nap time. And undies through the whole day, she won’t let them know she has to go. And they bring her in the potty every 1/2 hour. She doesn’t pull her pants down or up herself, they have to pull her pants and underwear up and down all by herself.
BUT with me at my house she does tell me she has to go, she does say I need to potty mama, she does walk to the bathroom and have me fallow her, she does pull her pants and underwear up and down.
What do I do??? She’s been at the daycare for 1 year and still doesn’t tell them when she needs to go.

I am in this battle too. Mine is 3 and is the only one that is not potty trained in the nursery. I decide not put nappies on her and try to see if she tells me but nothing happens and lots of accidents. I feel frustrated 😩

We didn’t leave the house for the first five days. After that we would take the little potty with us and pull over when he needed to go
