Aawww, the manatees! 2002ish, I snorkeled with them in Crystal Springs, near Tampa. One of the highlights of my life. I can't understand why Florida doesn't ban outboard motors in areas populated by manatees. Those props decimate our beautiful, slow moving sea cows. I guess boats are more important than these precious beings. And love the Wendell Berry quote, which I'd never heard: The food industry pays no attention to health; and the health industry pays no attention to food. That's it in a nutshell, isn't it?!? I'm curious... in your van, how many of you eat plant based? I'm vegetarian for 58 years. Veganish! But never influenced my family; they all eat meat :(
@@monicamestas7566 I agree, the manatees are sooo cute, so peaceful - and vulnerable. I’ve talked to a number of Florida boaters who are careful, aware of their areas, so hopefully they are the vast majority. That’s one of my favorite quotes. Because it’s so accurate. KeyWest or bust! 👍
Yes but WHY WOULD YOU. we make this trip 1-2 times a year it takes us 8-9 hrs to do it. There are too many places to see and visit. The trip down is part of the beautiful trip to Key West. When your in the Keys take off your watch and enjoy yourself and Life. Never rush. Stop and smell the roses….
You are spot on! BUT, there are some situations where there is only a day. We had to decide - does someone get to see the keys and KeyWest or - not?? We picked the one-dayer option. Hectic! And no stopping to smell any roses. 🌹 🧐

It once took me 7 hours one-way from Miami to Key West. Just one car accident on the Keys Highway can upset your schedule as will road/bridge construction.
We’ve stayed at a few different places over the years that were very reasonable. I can’t vouch for current prices, ownership changes etc. The Kon-Tiki in Islamadora, clean and basic. Captain Pips in Marathon. Some eclectic rooms. Sugarloaf Lodge worked well a few years ago. I’d check current reviews on everything and you should be able to find some gems depending on your schedule.
There's actually quite a few options: metered street parking (usually have to walk a few blocks). There are also several city parking lots and private garages within the area. We found metered street parking fairly easily about 4 blocks away from Duvall Street.
You found it! Yes, I made a mention of Pacific about 8 minutes into the video. The Pacific is hardwired into my vocabulary since I grew up on the west coast. 😉
Very nice. You are very cute. Been to Key West many times. Good Lord willing I will be there for the 9th time in a week. Off of a cruise ship this time. So like you I will not have to pay for expensive Key West hotels. Lets make that the 4th reason to make it a day trip.
